Chapter 1 - The king's fiancee

The sky was dark, the air cold and the ground wet, it was just 2pm in the afternoon but the sun couldn't be seen due to the heavy rain and dark clouds. Anne sat inside the moving carriage lost in thought, she always enjoyed the rain, the cold atmosphere and soothing sound of thunder but she'd enjoy it more if she was on her bed under the covers of her blanket instead of sitting in a carriage going to the castle.

She let out a defeated sigh, she had to do this because she made up her mind to start life afresh after running away from home, she spent two years studying herbs and the human anatomy even though her parents were against it, besides no one has ever heard a princess being a doctor. Princesses were made to perform their royal duties, get married to a prince or even better a king, have children and keep the bloodline going, only a few princesses were allowed to learn archery, hand to hand combat or become warriors.

Anne was brought up with love and although she was allowed to learn how to fight, and studied under the royal herbalist for two years, her parents never let her use any of her skills because of the prophecy of her being the 'golden fae'. A fae was rare among elves and only the royal family were privileged to become faes, most royal family wanted to keep their bloodline pure by getting married to royalty only and it was rare for royalty to get married to commoners, which were elves and although elves were fast, good in combat and possessed magic, it was nothing compared to faes. Faes were more beautiful, elegant, faster, the possessed more mana than elves plus they hand wings. To elves marrying a fae was a big privilege even though it was very rare. Faes were great and powerful but the golden fae was legendary they possess powers beyond your wildest dreams, they were said to have enough powers to destroy the world, their wings were said to look like that of an angel and their blood was said to heal every sickness on earth but of course Anne doesn't believe any of these golden fae nonsense, no one had seen a golden fae it was just legend without proof and even if she was a golden fae why had those legendary powers not manifested yet? She was already twenty one years old and that was the age faes and elves stopped aging it was literally adulthood and though she was strong and a good fighter and stronger than most, it was because of years of her training hard with the royal knights of the palace.

There was no such thing as a golden fae and she had to run away after her parents arranged a marriage with a king from another kingdom. There were four fae Kingdoms flosia, kinderbale, argonia and everia.

She was to from the kingdom of everia and was betrothed to the king of kinderbale. She was an only child and the stupid prophecy made princes from the four kingdoms seek her hand in marriage immediately she came of age and of course her parents picked the best candidate which was the king of kinderbale, an opportunity which many princesses would pounce on but she wasn't like the others, she didn't want to be a queen, she had hundreds if not thousands of years to live and getting tied to man she barely knew was not on her list, she begged her parents to reconsider their decision but they refused saying getting married to the king was the best decision for her, she loved her parents but sometimes they made the worst decision for her thinking they were making the right decision for her, she didn't want to be a queen being a princess was already too much for her, she didn't want to sit on the throne and bear children for a king who might not be faithful to her, she heard of king Roman's whoring ways and how he couldn't keep his dick in his pants and would fuck anything with a pretty face and tits, she even heard he had secret children with maids and nobile women but those were just rumours and rumors were over exaggerated sometimes.

She had to run away from the fae realm to the human realm where no one knew her or even knew fae and elves existed, she left a letter without telling them her whereabouts, she only left a letter because she didn't want them to think she had been kidnapped or something.

She stole a large amount of money from the royal treasury took most of her jeweleries but she left her clothes as she heard human females wore more conservative clothes and the clothes worn in the fae realm was anything but conservative, female faes and elves wore clothes with less layers and we're more revealing, she didn't want to stick out like a sore thumb. She knew her parents were probably worried and was probably searching everywhere to find her, as it's been 5 months since she left the fae realm and she was pretty sure no one would ever suspect her to move to the human realm.

She had flown away that night as it was too risky to use a carriage, flying with such heavy baggage and jewelry wasn't easy but she eventually made it to the human realm after flying and taking quick breaks for three days.

She had to alter her appearance by making her ears less pointy and more human like and dull her sparkly aura. Imagine her disappointment when she learnt the human realm and the fae realm used different currency, although it was still gold and silver coins the symbol on the coins were different and the weight and size were different, she was so disappointed because of how much stress she went through with flying with that amount of gold coins thank goodness she brought all her jeweleries, she would have become stranded and broke something she dreaded, she sold all her jeweleries for a good amount of money enough for her to buy a mini mansion, although the jeweleries were way more valuable for the amount she sold them, she didn't want to bring unnecessary attention to herself. Anne decided to keep the gold coins she brought with her from everia and melt it to jewelry when the time was right.

She got a mini mansion with seven bedrooms, two kitchens, a garden and a small space just outside her house where she wanted to set up her small hospital, she got a license faster than she expected, even though she had to prove her expertise to the council and paid a few gold coins. She started having patients the next day of opening her hospital, she also got an apprentice named Roland.

It's been 5 months since she opened her hospital and she was already doing too well and having multiple patients a day. Until she received a letter from the royal palace to treat the king's fiancee and the duke's sister who caught an unknown Illness.

" Why am I suddenly thinking about the past" she let out a sigh while staring at the her reflection through the window glass, wide grey eyes stared back at her, her red curls shiny and well maintained was packed into a ponytail giving her a more professional look, she wore a black, turtle neck gown and a black coat.

" I just hope I get this job, working for the future queen would help me expand my hospital" she whispered while taking in the scenery which had gotten blurry as the rain had gotten heavier. The ride from her place to the castle was about 40 mins and sitting inside a carriage for that long was tiring .

She got to the palace, and she could already see several other carriages outside the gate which she guessed were from other candidates applying for the job.

"We're here milady and the guards won't open the gates, I think you're supposed to walk all the way to the main palace" Edward shouted while holding the carriage door open, as it was raining heavily and he thought she wouldn't be able to hear him if he spoke quietly. If only he knew she would be able to hear him from a mile away despite the heavy rain.

" Its fine Edward I can manage from here, why don't you sit inside the carriage while waiting for me? I wouldn't want you to catch a cold" she said with a reassuring smile.

Although the coachmen seat protected him from most of the rain, it didn't protect him from the wind and cold, half of his clothes were already wet with the rain. Edward was delighted with the idea as he was already freezing and sitting inside the carriage would help him stay warm, his mistress wasn't just beautiful, she was also kind. He got inside the carriage while Anne stepped out carrying her black umbrella, she stepped on a puddle of water immediately she stepped out of the carriage, making water seep into her black boots and wetting the hem of her gown much to her irritation, she let out a sigh and rolled her eyes " why aren't they letting carriages inside the palace? It's not like we're going to carry hidden weapons inside our carriages" she grumbled while walking towards the gate, she showed the security her invitation and was let in, she groaned when she saw the distance from the gates to the main palace

" Maybe coming here was a bad idea, are they looking for a physician or are they trying to punish us? " She grumbled while walking, at this point her boots were already soaking wet and her coat was the only thing protecting half of her gown from getting wet.

She eventually got to the palace entrance after 10 mins of walking and gave her wet coat to the maids at the entrance.

" Good day miss, are you here for the job?" A man wearing a butler uniform asked

" Umm yes here's my invitation" she replied while stretching out the letter towards him.

He looked at the seal and nodded with approval. "Jenna take her to the waiting room" he instructed one of the maids who immediately began leading her towards the said waiting room.

Most people were already in the waiting room at least 20 candidates mostly male, advanced or middle age males, there were only 3 females there, she felt awkward being the last person to arrive made her look unserious and she was the youngest in the room which made others look at her with that look that screams ' you do not belong here' being a physician was already hard and being a young physician was incredibly rare, the youngest here looked at least 25 while she was just 21 and she looked as young as 18 because of her fae genes.

It wasn't long before the door to the waiting room opened and two towering figures stepped in, her breath caught in her throat, they were georgous, and they both looked no older than 28 their shoulders broad and manly, it was difficult to see a manly fae or elf, they were mostly feminine looking lean built men

"Your majesty" everybody in the room got up immediately they saw them to either curtsey or bow, Anne followed their actions even though she was just seeing the king for the first time

" Rise" his voice was deep and manly, he had black hair and dark eyes with a smile on his lips that didn't reach his cold eyes.

The blond man beside him remained quiet and looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here, he had blond hair and forest green eyes, a frown evident on his handsome but stoic face, he looked like he wanted to murder everybody in the room sending a shiver down most of their spine.

If the dark haired one was the king then the stoic blond haired man must duke of crowfield, the king's fiancee's brother
