Chapter 3
After seeing what could only be described as a hallucinogenic nightmare, Peter sat down in his chair. "How do they know what happened? Are they the ones who sent me the package in the first place? What do they mean 'I will come after you'?" as his thoughts were trying to keep his sanity intact somebody knocked on the door to his office. It was the other Head Bioengineer, Olivia Jackson. She had scarlet red hair and brown eyes and was wearing the standard lab coat with a red sweater underneath. She was about the same height as Peter but everyone on the floor(and probably the whole building) thought she was the smallest person ever. She was a very cheerful person. Most of the time if someone is tired or has a terrible day she would cheer them up. Like water to a flower, she was exactly the thing that most people need for the day. "Hey, have you gotten those tests done yet? We need some of the data for a test we're running on floor 16," she said questioningly. Noticing the weariness and fear from Peter. "Huh? Oh, yeah I thought I sent them to you?" he said as if he were in a daze. Trying to focus on the conversation but being encapsulated by the "visit". "Just send it to me again and I'll look later. Hey, do you need a coffee or something? You look like someone is trying to sign your soul away," she said jokingly trying to cheer him up but to no avail. "Yeah I could use a coffee. Can you tell Janeet to bring me one?" "Sure…" she said, now a bit worried that he wouldn't do anything besides moping in his office. "The test starts at 7. You should probably get going." "Yeah, I'll be there in 5 minutes," he said, now a bit annoyed since he was trying to think of a solution to the problem that he got himself into. "The best course of action would just be to listen to the stranger because I didn't intend to get back at whoever did this to me. I just need this thing off of me!" he exclaimed before realizing that he was speaking out loud again.
He went to the elevator and began to drink his coffee when he saw Olivia again running for the elevator. "Peter, Wait! Wait!" she yelled as she was trying to bring all of her schematics with her. Quickly he put his foot to the door of the elevator and Olivia made it in time. "Thanks," she said as she tried her best not to fall into the elevator. As they were going down Olivia spoke. "Have you ever been to that Italian place on 6th Avenue?" "I think I have but it might have been somewhere else. What's it called?" "Gold Experience Pizza." "Oh, yeah I order from that place sometimes. Ever tried the Requiem Pizza?" "Yeah, although I like the Sticky Fingers more, have you ever—" "HEY!! GET OFF THE ELEVATOR ALREADY!!" Boomed the security guard. This security guard was different from Mike in the lobby, they were armed and almost always ready to shoot. They were new additions to the company. Since there were so many important new projects and a lot of stuff happening with the lawsuits, they started increasing security for the building.
The 2 of them quickly got off the elevator. Almost tripping on each other while getting out. When they finally got to the test ground they began with the experiment. "Alright, experiment 045, November 24th,2090, begin." she proclaimed. The experiment was a new engine type called R8-7 that was created by Alex that was going to be tested with the Obratroil. Peter began by pouring the Obratroil into the engine and Olivia turned on the engine. The engine that looked about as good as a caesar salad made of metal came to life and started chugging. "Alright it looks fine and the fuel isn't turning to dust," said Peter. Mildly surprised at the fact that Alex actually did something this time instead passing out drunk on his desk after work. Alex (or Alexander as Mr. Waker called him) was an older guy around 35 or 40, the same age as Mr. Waker. He was always looking like he had both been in a fight and a sleep at the same time. His skin was like dark chocolate and his personality was about as bitter. The only reason he still had his job was because he would always become a genius when either Peter or Olivia couldn't figure something out.
"The fuel is being used up to 50%! We did it! We finally got it right!" she cheered but then stopped when she heard the engine again. Instead of the chugging noise from before it now sounds like a build-up of electricity and hot magma. "Hey, turn it off. Turn it off!" Peter yelled because he knew what was about to happen. As Olivia grabbed and pulled the switch, a great burst of light came from the engine and a sound of a combination of thunder and the lighting of a fire came out. Peter tackled Olivia to the ground as molten copper and flaming iron came flying from the engine and breaking the bullet-proof glass that separated them from the engine. "You okay?" asked Peter as he looked around at the destruction. The testing chamber looked like a meteor flying through the room. " Yeah, I'm fine." She said still recovering from the shock of the engine going all 'I CAST FIREBALL!!!' on them.
Quickly, the clean-up crew came and got to work. "What in the ever-loving f—never mind. Just tell me what happened." demanded Mr. Waker. Frustrated with the extra paperwork he had to do. "It was Alex's design and we ran an experiment but then it must have overpowered and exploded creating this mess," explained Olivia frantically trying to make sure Mr.Waker understood because he looked like he wasn't paying attention. "I'll talk with Alexander but you 2 take the day off. You look like you could use it," he said.
