CHAPTER FIVE
The next morning,
The news has already spread to all the students in the school.
Sarah from the third year of Criminology department sat on her chair waiting for the lecturer that comes to teach that morning along with other criminology students.
Some were found reading their notes because, any unexpected tests can come anytime during the lecture.
Some chatted with their friends about what happened and what they saw.
Sarah sat still as she scrolled through the school's group chat looking at the videos. She didn't come to school the day of the incident because of flu.
She gasped as she continued viewing the videos, she stood up almost immediately after seeing Mariam's face. As she stood up, it caused noise since she shifted the chair and table all of a sudden out of shock.
"Hey!" someone said to her as she tapped her hands to bring Sarah back to reality.
"Y… Yes… Yes" Sarah stammered as she came back to reality
"As soon as you stood up and shifted the chair, you drew the class attention to you. Is it about Mariam?" the girl asked as she looked at Sarah concerned.
"Yes! How come I wasn't there?" Sarah asked about to cry.
"If you were there, it won't change anything. We should just—"
"Don't say what you don't know Joan! You don't know besides… where the hell is Joshua?! I hundred percent suspect that idiot." Sarah stated out of annoyance as she dropped her phone on the table and looked round the whole classroom, looking for him.
"Look no more! He was poisoned yesterday." Joan said as she put her hand on Sarah's right shoulder trying to comfort her.
"Poisoned? Why the hell will he do that? Is he trying to run away from justice since, he killed Mariam?" Sarah started asking questions out of annoyance.
"Ms. Sarah?" a man dressed in nice suited black corporate suit including a black tie called as he stood in front of the class looking at the students hoping one of them answer him.
"Is he one of the detectives?" a question came from the left corner of the room in whisper.
"I think so or why else will he call the only person closer to the victim? He even has his detective tag on his right chest of his shirt" a student around that corner answered the question.
"Sir?" Sarah asked out of curiosity why a man all of a sudden ask for her.
The corporate man diverted his attention towards her and removed his ID from his inner shirt pocket. "I am James, a detective" he introduced himself, showing off his ID card.
Murmurs came from each corner of the room…
Sarah didn't hesitate but asked, "You need my attention?"
"Yes, of course! Can you follow me?" James asked
"Okay!" she followed him to wherever he took her.
In the president's office…
The president and two detectives sat on the chairs while, the students caught in the CCTV camera stood by the door except Joshua, whom is still in the hospital.
James entered with Sarah into the office. James closed the door behind him before sitting with his colleague and offering Sarah the other chair next to him.
"Good morning sir!" she greeted the president of the school before sitting down.
"These are the three prime suspects including, Joshua of the incident. They were caught in CCTV camera" James started as he explained to Sarah
Sarah turned to look at them and suddenly, her expression changed.
"Do you know them?" James asked as he looked at her expecting an answer from her.
"Yes, if they are related to the crime why don't you ask them?" Sarah asked as she turned to look at James.
"I did ask them but, they are giving me the same response. They all said, they have nothing to do with it!" James answered
"And… and, you believe them?" Sarah asked sounding stunned.
"No, it can never be since, they were all caught" James responded. "Do you have any idea of what they had to do with Mariam before the incident?" he asked cynically.
"They are bullies" Sarah answered almost immediately "They can do anything to hurt my dear Mariam"
"Sir!" one of the boys named Garry, called James trying to defend himself
"What do you want to say?" James asked as his attention diverted from Sarah to Garry.
"We admitted that, we bullied her before the incident but, we really did have nothing to do with the case" Garry responded
"Thanks so much, Sarah! Do you suspect any other person concerning the incident towards your friend?" James asked ignoring Garry.
"Nah, just them" she answered.
Just then, James phone rang.
James replaced the call to receiver, "How?" he asked sounding shocked as he stood from his chair, after hearing something from the other line.
He cut the call and turned to the president and vice president, "Mariam is dead!" he said bringing the guys behind James to shock. One of them gasped, Garry touched his friend shoulder as if assuring him.
"But, how?" the president asked as he stood up out of shock.
"That is something I don't know of but, all I heard from the doctor is that, she couldn't survive it. I have to go to confirm what I heard well"
"I will come with you!" the vice president volunteered as he stood up and picked his jacket ready to leave with the detectives.
"Okay then!" James agreed as he signaled to his colleagues "Let's go boys! You have a lot of explaining to do!" James said as he handcuffed the male students and forced them to follow them.
