Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

TWO MONTHS LATER AFTER THAT NIGHT

Olivia's point of view

"Congratulations, Miss Thompson. You are two months pregnant," the doctor dropped the news like a bomb that made my whole world stop moving.

I can't believe it. I don't want to believe it.

How could I get pregnant after a one-night stand? It's just a one-night mistake with a stranger I didn't even know and didn't want to know. But I never expected to get pregnant, nor did he take responsibility for one mistake.

I swallowed, "Come again?"

"You are pregnant."

I chuckled nervously and replied, "That's impossible. I can't be pregnant. It's just one night and that's impossible, right?"

"It depends, Miss Thompson. In your case, your cells were active and it became easy for you to bear. If you had intercourse one time, it was possible. Perhaps, you wanted to speak with the child's father?" She asked.

I shook my head and answered, "No…"

My mother held my hand and squeezed it. I turned to her and she smiled, giving me the sign of her support. I sighed in disbelief because this is unexpected and I'm not planning to chase my child's father.

"I'll leave you to think, Miss Thompson. Again, congratulations." The doctor nodded at my mother before leaving.

Silence prevails and the news of my pregnancy spirals in my mind. I clenched my hand and didn't know what to do. I want to get rid of this baby but this life inside me had nothing to do with my mistake.

"Do you know who the father is?" My mom questioned.

I exhaled sharply, "No, mom. I can't remember. This baby was made out of mistake and pain, so I didn't bother knowing the man's name. All I wanted that night was to forget, but I wasn't expecting the consequences of my action…"

"Don't pressure yourself, Olivia. Ben was the one who cheated and now he's getting married to Nathalie. Here," Mom gave me the wedding invitation my ex-fiance sent. He seemed to be annoying me, thinking I already understood why he cheated.

I took it and looked at their picture on the wedding invitation before ripping it into pieces. I throw it, feeling the anger rushing in my body. He dared to invite me to his wedding like nothing had happened?! They even wanted to have a proper wedding.

"He's a jerk!" I shouted, but immediately stopped when I felt a pain coming from my stomach. "He married Nathalie without even telling me, and now they are publicly telling the people about their infidelity by getting married again with witnesses? They're shameless!"

"Calm down, Olivia. Are you okay?" Mom asked, worried.

"Yes, Mom. I am okay."

"You are getting yourself stressed too much these past two months, Olivia. I know moving on isn't easy, but you must do it. Ben is getting married. Nathalie is pregnant, and you're pregnant. We will find the father of—" I cut her out.

"No, we're not going to find the father, Mom."

"But, Olivia. Whoever that man is, he must know he's going to be a father."

"I said, no!" I raised my voice, but eventually paused after realizing how disrespectful I had become to my mother.

The truth is, I can't remember his name. He told me his name, but when I woke up. All I wanted was to escape before he could stop me. I erased all the traces he could use to find me, and now he has left something that will remind me of him. The steamy and comforting night we share together. I can still feel his skin against me.

"I don't know the man's name. I don't know where he lives or who he is. I don't know where to find him," I lied at the last part. I know where he is because I can remember his face.

"That's fine, Liv. Don't stress yourself because it will be bad for the baby," she said. "But what's planned now?"

I touched my belly and said, "I will keep it. After all, he didn't do anything bad. It was my fault. I will raise my child alone. Far from this place. I will start a new life, leaving all the pain behind."

"I will support you, my daughter."

I hugged my mother. We parted and stood up with excitement for our new family member, especially since my mother is dating someone. She was supporting me the way I support her love life. We went out of the doctor's office with a smile when suddenly, we stumbled upon the person I wasn't expecting to see.

Nathalie and Ben halted, looked at each other before turning their gaze at me. My eyes darted at her already exposed baby bump, and I couldn't deny there's still pain in my heart. I gulped, pretending that I was not affected.

"I wasn't expecting to see you here, Olivia. Is someone sick?" Ben asked.

"It's none of your business, Ben. Let's go, Mom." We walked past them, but Ben halted me by grabbing my arms.

I pulled it away violently and glared at him, "Don't touch me, Ben. You disgust me!"

"Are you still mad at me? It's been two months, Olivia."

I scoffed, "Do you think two months is enough for me to forget what I've seen? You made me a fool, Ben. You made me believe we're meant to be, but behind my back, you are f*cking my best friend!" I glanced at Nathalie, "The woman I considered as a sister and trusted the most. If I knew she would steal you, I should've been more careful…"

"Enough, Olivia. Nathalie had nothing to do with my decision. It wasn't her fault I fell out of love and she was there when I needed her. Besides, it was your fault. You haven't even given me the time I need, Liv. I'm a man and I have needs, which you failed to give."

I slapped him, causing it to catch the people's attention around us. "Don't you dare blame me for your itchiness, Ben! Have you forgotten it was your decision? You refuse to touch me because you want to wait until marriage without me knowing you already found someone to fulfill your lust! So, it's not my fault!"

Mom pulled me closer and whispered, "Stop it, Olivia. Think about the child in your womb."

I swallowed deeply before simply looking around and noticing the attention we got.

Nathalie approached me and took my hand, "Forgive me, bestie. I didn't plan to wreck your relationship, but Ben and I love each other. Can't you just be happy for us?"

I slapped her too. "Yeah, of course. I have to adjust. But keep this in mind, Nathalie. From now on, I'm ending our friendship and will never forgive you the way I can't forgive Ben. My relationship ends and it doesn't mean our friendship will remain, so stop calling me bestie. It made me vomit!"

I swirl around, walking in big steps until I reach the outside and stop for a moment. I lean my hand on the wall, crying quietly as the pain strikes my heart. I caress my belly and swear to my child that we will be stronger without his father, and we will never search for him. I will protect my child and hide him from his father, preventing him from being taken from me.

I promise that.

We will leave this city, start a new life, and name and stop him from finding us.
