Chapter 201 - The Domain Ruler

The wind shifted.

It wasn't the gentle, whispering current that had defined the icy domain until now—this was different. Heavier. Sharper. As if the very air had become aware of what was about to unfold.

High above, at the summit of that colossal frozen peak, the monster moved.

Not fast.

Not yet.

But the sheer weight behind that movement sent a ripple through the entire domain. Ice cracked along the mountain's surface, deep fractures spreading outward like veins as the creature slowly straightened to its full, terrifying height.

Inside the cockpit, Youri didn't move.

Didn't blink.

"…Alright," he whispered, almost to himself.

Altopereh adjusted its stance mid-air, stabilizers flaring as it hovered just above the fractured ice below. The machine groaned under the pressure of the cold, its movements already sluggish—but Youri pushed past it.

There was no retreat.

Not anymore.

The monster stepped forward.

And the world responded.

The mountain beneath it shifted—not metaphorically, but physically. Entire sections of ice collapsed downward as if unable to bear the creature's weight. Snow cascaded like avalanches in slow motion, swallowed by the endless white below.

Then—

It vanished.

Youri's eyes widened.

"—!"

A shockwave erupted from above.

The monster had leapt.

The sheer force of its movement shattered the peak it once stood on, sending shards of ice and debris raining down across the domain. The air screamed as the creature descended, its massive frame cutting through the sky like a falling blade.

"Move—!"

Youri slammed the thrusters.

Altopereh surged sideways just as the monster crashed into the ground where it had been hovering moments before.

Impact.

The explosion of ice and pressure was catastrophic.

A shockwave blasted outward in all directions, tearing through the frozen terrain and sending Altopereh spinning uncontrollably through the air. Warning systems screamed as the cockpit rattled violently.

Youri was thrown forward, his head snapping against the edge of the console.

"—Tch!"

Blood ran down his forehead, but he didn't register it.

His eyes were already searching—

Tracking—

There.

Through the blizzard of ice and debris, the monster rose from the crater it had created.

Unharmed.

Completely unharmed.

"…Yeah," Youri muttered, breath heavy, "that figures."

The creature didn't roar.

Didn't hesitate.

It moved.

Fast.

Far too fast for something of its size.

In an instant, it closed the distance—its massive claw slicing upward.

Youri reacted purely on instinct.

"Guard—!"

Altopereh raised its arm just in time—

Impact.

The force was beyond anything the weakened unit could handle.

The entire arm buckled under the strike, armor shattering as the limb was thrown back into the torso. The shock traveled through the frame, slamming into the cockpit like a hammer.

Youri gasped as the impact crushed the air from his lungs.

"—!"

The Orbiton was sent flying.

It skidded across the ice, carving a deep trench before slamming into a jagged formation and stopping.

Silence—

For half a second.

Then the monster was already there.

No delay.

No wasted motion.

A second strike came down—its claw aimed directly at the cockpit.

Youri forced the thrusters.

Altopereh barely managed to roll aside.

The claw hit the ground—

And the ice beneath it exploded.

Not cracked.

Not shattered.

It disintegrated under the sheer pressure, leaving a gaping void beneath the surface.

Youri's breathing became uneven.

"…I can't take a single hit from that thing…"

He pushed Altopereh back into the air, keeping distance—just enough to think.

"Think… think…"

The monster tilted its head slightly.

Observing.

Learning.

Then—

It lunged again.

This time faster.

Youri fired.

Altopereh's remaining laser systems ignited, crimson beams cutting through the white expanse and striking directly into the monster's chest.

For a moment—

Contact.

Energy flared—

Then nothing.

The beams dispersed across its body like light hitting stone.

No damage.

Not even a mark.

"…You've got to be kidding me."

The monster closed in.

Youri tried to evade—but the cold, the damage, the time-worn systems—everything slowed him down just enough.

The creature's tail lashed out.

It struck Altopereh mid-flight.

The impact was devastating.

The Orbiton spun violently, systems flickering as entire sections of armor were torn away. Youri slammed against the cockpit again, blood now running freely down his face.

"—!"

He struggled to stay conscious.

But the monster wasn't done.

It pressed forward relentlessly.

Another strike—

This time from above.

Youri forced a block, raising both arms—

The claws came down.

And shattered them.

Both limbs collapsed under the force, twisted and broken beyond use.

Altopereh dropped from the sky.

Crashing hard into the ice below.

The cockpit dimmed.

Warning systems screamed.

"Structural integrity critical.""Mobility failure.""Core instability rising."

Youri coughed, blood staining his lips.

"…Heh…"

A weak laugh escaped him.

"So this is how it ends…?"

Outside—

The monster approached.

Slow now.

Deliberate.

Like a predator savoring the final moments before the kill.

Each step cracked the ice beneath it.

Each movement sent tremors through the ground.

It stood over the fallen Orbiton.

Towering.

Unstoppable.

Youri tried to move—

But the controls barely responded.

"…Come on…"

Nothing.

The monster raised its claw.

A final strike.

Clean.

Absolute.

Youri closed his eyes.

"…Guess I wasn't ready for this world after all…"

The claw came down—

And then—

A roar split the sky.

Not of the domain ruler but.

Something else.

Something massive.

Something alive.

Youri's eyes snapped open.

A shadow passed overhead.

Fast.

Enormous.

Before The monster's strike could land—

Something collided with it from the side.

The impact sent the creature skidding across the ice for the first time.

For the first time—

It was moved.

Youri's vision blurred, but he forced himself to look.

And what he saw—

Was a beast unlike anything he had ever imagined.

A massive, winged creature soared above him—its body long and serpentine, covered in dark, layered scales that shimmered faintly against the crimson sky. Its wings were vast, stretching wide enough to blot out the storm itself, each flap sending violent gusts across the domain.

Its head was draconic—elongated, crowned with jagged horns that curved backward like blades.

Its eyes—

Burned.

Not with rage.

But with awareness.

It let out another roar, diving again toward The domain ruler

The two monsters clashed—

And for the first time—

The battlefield shifted.

Youri barely had time to process it.

The dragon descended toward him.

Fast.

Too fast.

"…What—?"

Its massive claws reached down—

And grabbed Altopereh.

The entire Orbiton was lifted from the ground in a single motion.

"—!"

Youri gripped the controls as the world dropped away beneath him.

The dragon didn't slow.

Didn't hesitate.

It flew.

Straight out of the domain.

Behind them—

The domain ruler roared.

A sound of fury.

Of challenge.

But it did not follow.

It stopped at the edge.

Watching.

Waiting.

As if bound to its domain.

Youri's vision faded in and out as the dragon carried him across the desert, the icy winds giving way once more to the scorching, chaotic currents of Tartarus.

"…Saved…?" he muttered weakly.

The last thing he saw—

Was the endless desert below.

And the silhouette of the dragon carrying him through it.
