Chapter 30 - Chapter 30 – The Ancestors’ Secret

Chapter 30 – Ancestral Secret

The stone hall of the Dark Elves was once again filled with shadows and tension. The violet glow of crystals pulsed faintly in the walls, as though echoing the unrest among the gathered elders. Tonight felt heavier than the last assembly.

The elders sat in a wide circle, their staves resting before them, carved with symbols of shadow. Their silver eyes shone sharply in the dim light, full of skepticism and wariness.

At the center stood Valdyn Thalorian. His golden hair caught the dim violet glow, strange and radiant in this chamber of shadow. Nymeris sat farther back, her presence calm, allowing Valdyn to speak alone.

---

Valdyn bowed his head briefly before lifting it again.

"Elders. You agreed yesterday to follow my lead in migrating west, toward the Forest Elves. But before that step is taken, there is a truth you must hear."

Whispers rippled through the chamber. Some scowled, others waited.

"I was born different," Valdyn continued. "Since my first breath, I have heard voices—not of mortals, but of the ancestors. They whisper to me, guide me, grant me power beyond that of common Elves. It is through them that I see the path for our people's rebirth."

An elder woman struck her staff against the floor.

"Voices of the ancestors? How do we know this is not the delusion of a youth? Many have claimed such things before, and none bore fruit."

Valdyn's gaze did not waver. "Because this time… I have proof."

---

He turned his eyes briefly toward Nymeris, then faced the circle again.

"Nymeris carries my blood. She is with child."

The hall froze. Silence descended so sharply that even the crystals seemed to stop glowing.

One elder rose to his feet. "What did you say?"

Nymeris stood as well, her hand lightly touching her abdomen. Her voice remained cold but steady.

"It is true. And this pregnancy is not ordinary. I can feel it within me—something changed, something unlike any other Elf birth."

Valdyn stepped forward, his voice steady, cutting through the whispers that erupted again.

"You all know our race. One child in ten years—if we are fortunate. But the blood that runs in me carries the blessing of the ancestors. The child within Nymeris will be born in three months. And not just one child. Multiple heirs."

Gasps filled the chamber. Elders leaned forward, others recoiled.

---

The oldest elder, with his long white beard and fading silver eyes, lifted his hand, silencing the chamber.

"If this is true… then you are the fulfillment of prophecy. But do you understand what you are asking of us? You ask us to place the fate of our race in the womb of a single woman, and the promises of a youth."

---

Valdyn straightened, his emerald eyes blazing.

"Not promises. Proof! Two children of mine already live—Kaelen and Lyraine, born from Sylwen Aeloria of the Forest Elves. They breathe, they grow, they carry blood stronger than any Elf child before them. That is the work of the ancestors. That is the truth that cannot be denied."

Shock swept through the elders. Murmurs rose louder than before. Some exchanged bewildered looks, others clenched their staves as though to steady themselves.

An elder muttered, "Two children… in so short a time? Impossible…"

Another whispered, "If this is true, then the blood of Thalorian truly carries the echo of the divine…"

---

Valdyn's voice rang louder, filling the chamber.

"You call me young. You doubt my right to lead. Then judge me by results, not by years. Children already live. And more will be born within three months. Our race no longer needs to wait decades for a fragile hope. We can multiply, grow, and endure. This is not just my burden—it is our future. Follow me, and we will not fade. Refuse me… and we consign ourselves to extinction."

The chamber fell into silence once again, but this time the silence was heavy with awe rather than doubt.

---

The white-bearded elder lowered his staff, his voice grave but resolute.

"Very well. If what you say is true—if children already live, and more are to be born—then we cannot ignore this. We will march west. May your oath prove worthy, Valdyn Thalorian."

One by one, elders nodded. Some with conviction, others with lingering doubt. But the tide had turned.

For the first time in eight decades, the Dark Elves chose hope.

Nymeris rose fully now, her silver gaze glinting like tempered steel. For the first time, her lips curved into a faint smile.

"You have them, Valdyn. Now let us see if you can truly lead them."

---

The familiar chime rang in Valdyn's mind.

Valdyn closed his eyes for a moment. The path is clear. There is no turning back.

---

That night, under a sky full of stars, Nymeris sat beside Valdyn in silence. For once, her hand pressed against her stomach with something close to tenderness.

"In three months," she whispered, "we will see if your words are miracles… or merely promises."

Valdyn clasped her hand, his gaze locked on the heavens above.

"They will be miracles. Our children will be the beginning of our people's rebirth."
