Meaningless, meaningless, meaningless," said the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless. What has been will be again. What has been done will be done again. There is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, 'Look, this is something new'? It was here already, long ago. It was here before our time. No one remembers the former generations. And even those yet to come will not be remembered by those who followed them. So I hated life. All of it is meaningless and chasing after the wind."
Two figures standing on top of a sky scraper, both wearing a white uniform with pinches of green, formal clothing.
"Has the thought ever crossed your mind?...The thought of taking your own life?" Megumi asked, his hands folded and his head slightly tilted to the left, looking at Rom.
"I don't think that's the most appropriate response to the situation we find ourselves in." Rom responded.
It's revealed that they are actually looking across to another building, and atop the building stood a dark skinned guy with white hair. He stood at the edge of the building, a serious expression on his face. He is aged 19 and his name is Tyson Hunter. His hand was raised and he was using it to block the sun's heat. He wore a bright red shirt, black cargo pants and white and red sneakers.
"It's so hot, the Sun's burning my will to die. Well I guess it's time." Tyson's thoughts.
Tears began to fall down his face like the drip of a candle. He was standing at the edge of the building, his gaze fixed on the ground. The quiet atmosphere is suffocating.
"I don't want to look bad on my first job, so I keep my composure no matter the situation. So…" Megumi said, a smile on his face, his hands still folded as he looked at Tyson. "You're not even going to tell me what to do? I suppose it's all on me to solve this predicament, while you watch from the sidelines." Side eying Rom.
Rom side eyed him, a serious expression on her face. "He sure talks a lot. Is it because he's nervous? Megumi Hitsujiha…Why are you here? I don't think you're cut out for this job." Rom's thoughts.
Megumi slowly raised his left hand, palm open facing toward Tyson. Megumi closed his eyes. A pulse hit Tyson. "And…I'm in." Megumi's thoughts.
Megumi appears in Tyson's mindscape, nothing but clear white in sight. They stand opposite to each other. Staring each other in the eyes. Megumi had a concerned expression on his face. The silence was deafening, a feeling of discomfort crept on Megumi and before he could identify the source…multiple hands that had slowly been approaching him from behind grabbed him and pulled him down into the darkness. His struggles were for not and his scream disappeared into obscurity. Then…It was silent. The silence was immediately broken by Rom saying Megumi's name.
Megumi snapped out of the mindscape back to reality and he crouched with his head facing down and hands holding his head. "Shit! Is he still conscious?" Megumi asked Rom.
Tyson stood there incapacitated, his eyes open but completely whitened, no iris in sight. He was knocked out but his body was still standing up.
Rom jumped from the building they were on to the building that Tyson was on. Megumi stood and followed her. He sprained his ankle when he landed," Jumping between buildings…you do that often? What are we gonna do with him now? We're not just gonna put him back in the building and continue our day are we?
We are bringing him with us, something attacked you while you were in his mindscape. This is no longer just a regular case.
Megumi carried Tyson in the bridal carry. Him and Rom walked into the building and entered the elevator.
"I can feel it…a deep sadness and sorrow. Maybe…" Megumi said as he was interrupted by Rom.
"Don't even think about it." Rom said. "We are not letting him take his life. You want him to turn into an Ol? You want to send him to Sheol? You want to damn his soul?"
Megumi looked at Rom with wide eyes and his teeth were showing.
"Don't give me that look. I don't make the rules. I just follow them." Rom said.
"That's crazy. I didn't save him because it's part of my job,I saved him because I value human life. I can't imagine watching someone die when I could've prevented it." Megumi said, an uncomfortable smile on his face and wide eyes and tiny sweat droplets on his forehead.
Rom didn't respond, she kept a straight face and waited for the elevator to reach the bottom floor. The elevator opened and they walked out. Rom walked ahead, she walked toward a car(BMW 5 Series E34).
"You sitting in the backseat with him. For safety measures. That won't be a problem for you, right?" Rom said, looking back at Megumi with a smirk on her face.
Megumi responded with a smirk on his face, "That won't be a problem, I can still see you from the backseat."
With a neutral expression on her face, Rom said, "Good. Let's go." Rom started the car and it increased its speed as they left the location where they were at. Megumi looked at the window, his expression contemplative.
[Somewhere else]
The location was in the sky, a woman with blue flowing hair, strands in all directions and hands to the sides as if it were a divine figure arriving or ascending. An air of confidence exuded from her and her face was aloof. A large snake was floating in the air, it was a confrontation, snake looking at her and her looking back. Her name is Mizuhara. The snake screamed, making a screeching sound that sent chills through spines. But Mizuhara was unfazed though, she slowly walked on the air moving toward the snake. The snake launched at her but she easily moved to the side, dodging it and its movement resembled that of a train. A Force already in motion and taking time to decelerate. She made hand signs," Begone…Unclean spirit."
"DIVINE SPEAR" She said. Her hair swooshed back, began flowing back as a reaction to her ability releasing from her left hand. A gush of water that you'd swear came out of a ginormous hose, a pointy end on it as if it were an arrow. It split the snake in half. The snake disintegrated, as if it were made out of sediment. Mizuhara stood there in the air surrounded by clouds. "Death is the highest form of mercy. Rest in oblivion, you lost soul."
4 HOURS LATER
In a completely white room, the only furniture was a chair that Megumi was sitting on. His hands were clumped together and he had a smile on his face, he was leaning forward and staring at someone,it was Tyson. Tyson had just woken up and he was sitting on the ground.
"Tyson Hunter, sick name if you ask me. I'm Megumi Hitsujiha. And I'm the one who…saved you." Megumi said.
"I didn't ask for your help, Why'd you even save me in the first place? What were you doing on the roof?" He said looking down.
Megumi's facial expression became serious, "You asking me stupid questions Hunter."
"What?" Tyson asked.
"You weren't gonna jump were you?" You weren't going to do it. You don't want to die! In fact, you want to Live…No! YOU NEED TO LIVE!!" Megumi bombarded Tyson with these strings of words. "In a burning building, the only way out the building is jumping. Falling doesn't seem so bad compared to being burnt alive. You feel like you are backed into a corner, like you don't have any other choice, don't you?"
Tyson slumped to the ground, he began weeping, releasing all the bottled up emotion, as if he were alone, he let go of everything and cried his lungs out.
Megumi stood up from the chair, looking down on Tyson, his eyes began releasing a quiet stream of salty water, he cried for Tyson. He wiped the tears of his face and reached out his hand, "Take my hand Hunter. It's time for you to take back your life." A resolve on his face.
Tyson, on his knees, looked up to Megumi. A somber and curious expression on his face. He extended out his right hand and grabbed Megumi's hand. Megumi pulled him up. It was quiet for a brief moment as they stared into each other's eyes.
"Do you believe in ghosts?" Megumi asked Tyson.
"What?" Tyson asked.
Megumi folded his arms and a smile sneaked on his face as usual, "I'm part of an organization that fights spirits. Friendly neighbourhood Ghostbusters."
An expression of concern dawned on Tyson's face, his eyes widened as he sunk into his thoughts," Organization that…wait a minute,is he trying to recruit me into his cult? If I say no I might get killed. Fuck. I don't want to die anymore. What do I do?"
A smile with no wrinkles at the corner of his eyes crept on his face, his eyebrows arranged in an unorganized manner. "I'm open to hearing what you have to say."
Before Megumi could say anything, the door opened, the sound of it breaking the tension. A beautiful woman with a serious expression walked into the room,it was Mizuhara. Tyson's facial expression made a complete 180,from being uncomfortable to being in complete awe.His eyes followed Mizuhara as she made her way to the room.
Without greeting,Mizuhara said,"I heard that there's a new member in the Pax Order. Which one of you is Megumi?"
"You heard wrong, there's two new talented members." Megumi turned around to face her as he said with a smile on his face.
"The bar is still as low as ever, still giving out positions like social grants." She said with a mocking tone.
Tyson stood behind Megumi watching the interaction unfold and not engaging them,"Is this an act?" His thoughts as his hand was under his chin showing his contemplative state.
"Wait a minute…you must be the princess of the Ozuku Clan. Yeah,Mizuhara." Megumi said, a warm smile on his face,as usual.
"In 3 months the Soul Tournament will be taking place. Both of you will be partaking in it,so I urge you to prepare. It's a matter of life and death.
Tyson had a shocked and terrified expression on his face.
"What are you talking about?" Megumi asked.
"It's tradition,it happens every two years." She said,a serious expression on her face.
"We only learning about this now?!" Megumi asked, his hands spread out and palms open.
Mizuhara tilted her head up and gave the illusion of her looking down on both of them,"Why are you scared? I thought you two were talented?...What's your name?"
Tyson stood there, concern etched on his clueless face. He soon realized that Mizuhara was asking him a question. "You talking to me?" He asked.
A bitchface on Mizuhara as she said,"No,I'm talking to the other dandelion behind you."
Tyson was embarrassed,he then gave a neutral expression as he said,"My name is…Tyson Hunter."
Mizuhara didn't say a thing, she just had an aloof face.
"Goodluck…you'll need it. Later plebs."She said.
Megumi displayed an annoyed expression and his eyebrows pointed down,Tyson was still clueless, not taking any offence or maybe it went over his head.
Mizuhara left the room and didn't close the door behind her. Megumi and Tyson coincidentally put their hands in their pockets simultaneously and stood there in silence. Megumi turned back to Tyson's direction and said," We got no time to waste. We begin training now. Welcome to the Pax Order Hunter."
