Tang Yu froze, her heart pounding in terror but at this moment, she needed to rescue herself. They weren't going to stop no matter what she said.. They wanted her and that was it.
Adrenaline surged through her drunken haze and he thrashed violently, lifting her knee with all the strength she had left, slamming it in between one man's legs. He howled in pain, stumbling back.
"You bitch!"
"How dare you!"
Before the second could grab her, Tang Yu's hand darted for the lamp on the bedside table and with a desperate cry, she swung it down hard. She only thought of escaping their clutches.
The heavy base struck their necks with brutal force. Their groans cut short and only silence followed. The entire room suddenly went quiet.
She staggered back, heavily gasping, the lamp slipping in her trembling hands. Her vision cleared slightly, and her mind sobered as reality hit her. Both men lay crumpled on the floor, motionless.
"N-no… No..." She dropped down to her knees, pressing shaking fingers to their throats, searching for a pulse, but she felt nothing. She moved her fingers across their nostrils, and nothing.... There was no breath, or movement whatsoever.
"I… I.. I killed them…" Her voice cracked as panic consumed her.
"I killed someone…"
Her chest tightened, experiencing laboured breath. She fumbled for her phone with slippery hands, dialing the only person she thought she could rely on, Feng Ting.
The line rang twice before it connected to him.
"Feng Ting…"
"Feng Ting…" she whispered in terror, clutching the phone like a lifeline. She only knew it was him who could truly save her, she didn't have anyone else.
But instead of his voice, laughter spilled through the speaker, and probably the person who had received it, did it intentionally.
"Feng Ting, the baby is growing well… would be such a beautiful bouncing baby boy!" A woman's gentle, familiar tone drifted through the speaker, and Tang Yu immediately identified it as that of the woman she had heard in the study room.
Tang Yu froze.
"Son, when are you two planning to get married? Do you want her belly to show before the wedding?" An older woman teased, her voice full of warmth.
"Auntie, Feng Ting has his own plans, let's not push him… he knows what he is doing! I don't mind giving birth before all that!" The same female voice replied softly with some closeness and familiarity.
"Not push him?!" A man's stern voice cut in, and this could probably be the father, "He's been with you for five years now, and what's there to wait for? Don't tell me that isn't long enough to commit himself! You two should think of how you will settle down and give my grandson a complete family."
" Pa…* At last, she heard Feng Ting's voice. It was very clear and calm, sounded intimate as this was his family, his father and mother.
Tang Yu's heart missed a beat. It was the family dinner he had mentioned in the study room while doing the act… the family he claimed not to have.
He wasn't an orphan. He just wasn't hers.
The woman was already introduced to the family, and she? Where was her place?
Her lips curled into a broken laugh, the sound bordering on madness. "Hahaha… haha…"
Her gaze dropped to the lifeless bodies on the floor just close by. No matter the reason, no matter the circumstances, she had killed them. The law wouldn't care that it was self-defense. She would go to prison.
No! How could she resign to her fate like this?
Hands shaking, she tried calling her sister's number, but the phone went straight to voicemail. It was rare for her sister to switch off her mobile phone, unless she was completely erased from her phonebook.
Alone, surrounded by silence and death, Tang Yu clutched the bloodied lamp against her chest, her voice trembling in despair.
"What do I do? What am I supposed to do? What… what should I do?"
She immediately dialed another number she had never dared to call and had been idling in her phonebook.
It was answered instantly.
"He…ll…o… Hello…" Her raspy voice trembled as she tried to compose herself. She had never spoken to this man before, but she had his number.
He was a family member of the household her sister had married into, and her brother-in-law had once given it to her, just in case of an emergency or if she couldn't reach them.
"It's… it's…" Her nerves choked her words, and in panic, she quickly hung up. She knew too little about this man. Why would he even bother listening to her?
Why would he even help her out? Was she daydreaming? But who was going to help her?
But almost immediately, her phone rang again. The same number flashed across the screen..
