Chapter 3 - Chapter 3; Betrayal 1

"She won't know anything about this, and her love for me is greater than her hate. Without me, she would be lost. I am her only family...." Yes, he knew Tang Yu as an orphan since she had given up that family for him. Apart from that, he knew nothing else. It was the same with Tang Yu; she knew only him.

Now hearing things she didn't know about, she didn't know if she should cry or laugh at herself! She was barren? Did this mean she would never have kids? Was this what it meant to watch fate from a distance without a say!

"There's a family dinner tonight, we need to freshen up and go back to the main mansion as soon as possible, you do know they hate waiting." With that, you could hear heavy breathing and embarrassing sounds coming from the study room like they were sprinting to the finals.

On tiptoe, she slipped away through the sitting area and headed for the front door. The moment she stepped outside, she broke into a run, rushing out of the compound and onto the streets, tears streaming as she bawled her eyes out.

She had been living in a lie all along. The love she had cherished was nothing but an illusion. Why hadn't he been honest with her? Why did it have to be this way?"

She hailed a taxi and boarded, instructed the taxi driver where to drop her at the invited party in Taiyu Clubhouse, she knew everyone else would have arrived and settled there already, and they were just waiting for her to show up!

"Miss, are you okay?" The taxi driver inquired curiously seeing her crying out like that, was she mourning? Was she in any distress? What could have happened to her?

"I'm fine, I just received some sad news! But I guess everything is going well..." She hoarsely responded before getting her mobile phone out of her purse and calling that familiar number she had captured overhead.

It took a few rings before it was received, and she could hear heavy breathing, like someone who had just completed a marathon.

"Hello..."

"Honey, are you okay? Why are you breathing like that?" Even though deep down she knew the cause, she felt like she could still salvage the situation and she was just overthinking!

"Just exercising at the gym, are you done with the party? Do you need me to send someone to pick you up?" That voice sounded endearing, but the betrayal in her heart couldn't cease.

"Not yet, we have just started, I will tell you the time to pick me up!" She hung up, knowing he was lying to her and probably didn't have any plans to confess to her.

With a heavy heart, she wiped away her tears, clutching her phone as the thought struck her, was this the price she had to pay for her foolishness?

Soon, the taxi slowed to a stop at the grand entrance of Taiyu Clubhouse. Tang Yu paid the driver with trembling hands before stepping out into the cool night air.

The neon lights above the tall glass doors glowed faintly against the drizzle, giving the whole building an air of both luxury and intimidation.

Two security guards stood at the entrance, sharp-eyed and rigid in posture. As she approached, one of them politely stopped her and asked for her identification. Tang Yu quickly handed over her ID card.

"Twenty-three years old… third-year student?" the guard muttered as he scanned through her details. It had been almost two years since she last set foot on campus, but her documents still carried her academic record. After a brief nod of approval, they let her through.

Inside, the heavy bass of music hit her first, followed by the sound of chatter and laughter.

The grand lobby opened up before her, rows of plush chairs, chandeliers glittering overhead, and at the far end, there was a brightly lit dance floor where people swayed to the rhythm of the music.

Groups were already gathered around tables, clinking glasses, and celebrating with unrestrained joy.

It was Tang Yu's first time stepping into such a place. She felt out of place, her steps hesitant as her eyes darted around. Clutching her small purse, she walked over to a nearby waiter and asked softly, "Excuse me… where is the private room number 50?"

The waiter gave her a quick once-over, before he then pointed her toward the elevator with a polite smile. "30th floor, miss. Once you step out, it's at the end of the hall. You will just see it..."

Tang Yu nodded her thanks and stepped into the waiting elevator. The ride up was silent.... She leaned against the cold metal wall, her heart beating faster with every passing floor.

When the doors finally slid open on the 30th floor, she stepped out into a carpeted hallway lined with golden wall lamps.
