Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

"What is that!?"

The Second Division officer's eyes bulged at the sight of the eighty-meter-long blade surging toward him.

He knew it was a sword—yet if someone had told him a mountain was falling from the heavens, he might have believed it more.

How can a zanpakuto be this massive…?

Teeth clenched, he roared and swung his own blade to meet it.

The instant steel met steel, his expression contorted. An overwhelming, irresistible force crashed into him.

"Crack… crack…"

The ground beneath his feet shattered. His legs sank knee-deep into the soil.

His arms trembled uncontrollably—barely able to cling to his zanpakuto.

"Uuuaaaaahhh!!!"

With a final shout, the earth split beneath him.

"BOOM!!!"

The man was hurled into the dirt, leaving a gaping trench carved through walls and stone as though by a god's hand.

Urahara Kisuke sighed.

Near captain-class reiatsu… how could a normal soldier hope to block that?

Cole pulled his blade back, smiling faintly as he reached down to haul the dazed man from the rubble.

"See? I told you—I didn't want to fight."

The officer staggered, head spinning, vision swimming with stars. He wanted nothing more than to faint on the spot.

An ordinary human, they said? You're mocking me. No one would believe this without Urahara's guidance…

An eighty-meter zanpakuto—never once had Soul Society witnessed such a thing.

Urahara saw his doubt and shook his head. "Don't misunderstand. He really has nothing to do with me. His spiritual power is simply… abnormally vast. That's why his zanpakuto appears this way."

The officer nodded hastily. "Yes, yes, of course… please, just let me leave…"

Urahara sighed again, watching the battered man retreat.

Then he turned.

His eyes fell on Cole, Rukia, Ichigo, and Ishida—all trying to sneak away.

His face darkened like storm clouds.

"Tessai. Bring them all back."

I get saddled with this mess, and they think they can just walk away? Over my dead body.

Tessai's face hardened as he strode forward, massive arms reaching out like towers.

Ichigo tensed, fists clenched. "Don't come any closer! I'm strong, you know!"

Ishida's bow snapped into form. "Don't underestimate a Quincy."

Both cried out an instant later—trapped, one under each of Tessai's arms, thrashing uselessly like children.

"Cole! Be careful! This guy's not normal!" Ichigo shouted.

Ishida's eyes narrowed in disbelief. "Impossible—he crushed my spirit arrows with his bare hands!?"

Tessai dumped them unceremoniously at Urahara's feet, chanting under his breath.

"Bakudo #4: Hainawa (Crawling Rope)!"

Golden ropes burst forth, binding the two to the ground.

Ichigo strained, veins bulging, roaring as he tried to tear it apart—but no matter how much power he poured in, the bindings held fast.

Idiot, Cole thought wryly. That's the Grand Kidō Chief you're up against. His spells are the pinnacle of kidō itself.

A flicker drew his attention.

His system panel had shifted.

[Kidō · Bakudō #4: Hainawa — 0]

Cole's eyes lit up.

Kidō!?

It must have appeared because he had witnessed Tessai use it—and his system allowed him to mimic it.

Excitement surged. Without hesitation, he funneled over a hundred points into it.

Tessai stepped forward, hand extended. "So, you've given up resisting?"

But Cole's eyes sharpened. He stepped back, raised a hand, and shouted:

"Bakudo #4: Hainawa!"

Tessai chuckled. "Cole-san, don't jest. You've never studied kidō, much less a high-level chantless cast—"

His words froze.

His pupils shrank as golden rope flared into being—shooting straight toward him.

"Hainawa!?"

Tessai's body jolted as the rope coiled around him.

Shock spread across his face. He actually replicated it…?

Even bound, he kept his composure. His gaze slid to Rukia.

"Rukia-san. Did you teach him this?"

Rukia blinked rapidly, head shaking furiously. "No! I never taught him any kidō at all—I don't know how he learned it!"

Tessai turned back, staring hard at Cole.

"Where… did you learn that?"

Cole smirked. "I just saw you use it once. Thought I'd give it a try—and it worked."

Tessai's heart lurched. His breath caught.

"You… copied it by watching?"

Even Urahara's easy smile faded. His tone turned grave.

"Cole-san. That's not something you should claim lightly."

Kido was the highest of shinigami arts—its mysteries rivaled zanpakuto themselves.

A shinigami normally studied a single spell for a year just to grasp the basics.

But this boy—he had seen it once, and cast it instantly.

And it wasn't just any spell.

It was Tessai's chantless kido.

"What's there to lie about?" Cole shrugged.

Tessai's jaw clenched. With a flex, golden light shattered around him. He raised his hand again—this time at Rukia.

"Cole-san. Watch carefully. I'll cast another. Let's see if you can mimic it."

"Wait!"

Rukia's face twisted in alarm. "Tessai, don't—"

But Tessai ignored her. His deep voice rang out:

"Self-destruct, hound of Rondanini! Look upon yourself and burn! Tear out your own throat!"

"Bakudo #9: Geki (Strike)!"
