Chapter 12 - Memory's

in Yasaka's private chamber, the golden-haired leader of Kyoto's yōkai was chuckling behind her sleeve, tails swishing gracefully.

"You had five months to convince my future husband to go to Kuoh Academy," Yasaka teased, her tone dripping with amusement, "and you failed."

Lily rolled her eyes, flopping back onto a cushion with a tired sigh. "Yes, Yasaka, yes. I tried for five months. He avoids that place like a cat avoiding water."

"Fufufu~," Yasaka's laugh came soft but sly, eyes glinting with mischief as she sipped her tea. "Well, he does get that stubborn streak from you, Lily."

Lily shot her a flat look. "Don't pin that all on me. He gets plenty of it from Aaron, too. That man could out-stubborn a mountain."

"Oh, I know," Yasaka smirked knowingly. "But you're the one who raised him on tales of yōkai pride and Kyoto's history. Of course he'd want to stay close. Why would he run off to play with devils in Kuoh when he has everything he wants here?"

Lily groaned, rubbing her temple. "You make it sound like I raised him too well. Now he's digging in his heels about school just to prove a point."

Yasaka's smile softened as she leaned forward, her tone warmer. "Be honest, Lily. Deep down, you're a little glad, aren't you? That he chose Kyoto, that he chose us?"

For a moment, Lily said nothing. Then, with a small smile, she admitted, "Maybe. But don't think this gets you off the hook. He may call you 'Lady Yasaka,' but the way he listens to you sometimes? Hah, I think he already sees you as more than just his leader."

Yasaka's cheeks flushed faintly, though her grin never faltered. "Good. That makes my job easier. After all—" she set her cup down with elegant finality, "—he will be the Yōkai King. My daughter's chosen, my chosen… and the future of Kyoto."

Lily looked at her friend, a memory tugging at the corner of her mind. "Remember when you told him about the other part of the prophecy?"

Yasaka's smile froze for a moment before she chuckled softly, eyes flicking away. "Yes… I do remember."

At that same moment, in Nate's home, both he and Kunou were struck by the same memory replaying vividly in their heads.

Flashback – 7 months ago

Yasaka sat with her usual regal composure, though the faintest hint of pink colored her cheeks. She folded her hands in her lap, tails twitching slightly as she faced Nate.

"And," Yasaka began carefully, "just as the prophecy says, I… will be marrying you. For it speaks of the Nine-Tailed Fox being the destined lover of the Child of Prophecy."

Nate blinked, widening his eyes in well-practiced surprise. 'They don't know I already pieced this together… Better play dumb.'

"Wait—seriously?" he asked, letting just the right amount of shock slip into his voice.

Yasaka's cheeks grew redder as she flustered, waving her hands slightly. "Y-Yes, but listen! You don't need to—well, not right now—marriage isn't immediate, it's just… just a possibility! If you don't want to, or if—"

She was cut off by a high-pitched wail. "Not fair!"

Everyone turned.

Kunou stood there, fists balled, tails bristling, her face puffed in outrage. Even the elders blinked in surprise at her sudden outburst, and Lily raised a brow, already hiding a smile behind her hand.

Kunou stomped her foot, tears prickling her eyes. "Why not me, Mother?! I want to be with him! He's my childhood friend—I love him too!"

Yasaka's expression softened, but she sighed and explained patiently. "Kunou, my dear… you only have six tails. You need at least three hundred more years before you'll grow the ninth. That's what the prophecy meant."

Kunou's lips trembled. Then she pouted fiercely, glaring at her mother. "That's not fair!"

Before anyone could react, she darted forward and leapt onto Nate, hugging him tightly with all her little strength. "I don't accept this! I'll fight fate itself if I have to!"

Nate froze, staring at the fox girl clinging to him while the entire room gawked. Internally, he groaned. Oh great. My life just became one giant romcom prophecy war.

End of Flashback

Nate blinked, shaking his head as the memory faded, his DS screen pulling back into focus. His Garchomp had just fainted to Kunou's Togekiss.

"Well," he muttered, scratching his cheek, "that was a weird memory to come up again."

Kunou didn't look up, still mashing buttons with a fierce determination. "Weird for you, maybe. I still meant it."

Nate gave her a side-eye, trying not to laugh. "You're saying this while wiping my team with Air Slash spam? That's cruel, Kunou."

She smirked, tails swishing as she leaned closer to the screen. "Prophecy or not, I'm not losing to you in this world either."

Nate smirked, picking up his DS a little straighter as he sent out his last Pokémon.

"Alright, Kunou… meet my ace. Electivire."

The electric titan appeared on-screen with a roar, sparks crackling around its arms.

Kunou blinked, her confidence slipping. "…You still had that left?"

"Yup." Nate grinned, leaning back in his chair like some smug anime rival. "And unlike your Togekiss, my boy doesn't rely on flinches."

Within minutes, Thunder Punch after Thunder Punch tore through Kunou's remaining team. One by one, her Pokémon dropped, until the victory screen popped up on Nate's DS.

Kunou slumped forward, ears drooping, tails flattening behind her. "…That's cheating. No one saves an Electivire for last."

Nate chuckled, holding his DS like a trophy. "It's called strategy. And maybe a little bit of karma for all that Air Slash spam."

Kunou pouted, cheeks puffing as she looked away. "…I still meant what I said in the memory."

Nate froze, blinking at her sudden seriousness, before groaning as his smug grin faltered. "Kunou, you can't just drop confession-level stuff right after a Pokémon battle."

Nate looked at his DS as he spoke in his mind. 'Still, the fact that in this Universe, Fairy types were introduced in Gen 4, will that change? I guess the multiverse is always multiverse'.

Then they saw a teleportation circle, one that was demonic, and they just looked at each other.

The Adam house was protected by the same Barriers as Kyoto, so if anyone without permission tried to come in. That Supernatural entity will get fire, shocked, frozen, and then blasted by water.

But the only person who could just come like this was one Person.

Serafall appeared in front of the kid, holding a Male Kuoh Academy uniform. "Nate-kunnnn".

Nate just looked as he spoke. "Not going".

Serafall blinked as she spoke. "What, I thought Lily Chan managed to convince you to go to Kuoh Academy?".

Kunou laughed as she spoke. "She did, but failed".

Serafall puffed her cheeks, twirling her magical girl wand as sparkles exploded around her.

"Ehhh?! But Nate-kun, Kuoh Academy is so much fun! Clubs, friends, exciting school life~! Don't you want to be with your fellow kids your age?"

Nate crossed his arms, deadpan. "I already have friends. I already have school. And I already have people dragging me into supernatural chaos without me adding Kuoh Academy to the list."

Kunou was practically rolling on the floor now, tails wagging as she laughed. "He's right, Serafall-sama! Nate's too stubborn for your magical idol powers to work on him."

Serafall gasped dramatically, spinning in place. "Nooo! Even my cuteness failed?!" She dropped to her knees like a defeated anime heroine, fake tears streaking down her cheeks.

Nate muttered under his breath, picking up his DS again. "I survived Lily's nagging… you don't stand a chance."

Serafall beamed, striking a magical girl pose as her victory theme seemed to play from nowhere. "Operation 'Get Nate to Kuoh'—Step One: Success!"

Nate looked at her as he got up. "Serafall it's not happening"

Serafall looked at her as she spoke, as she pouted. "Hey, just Because Lily failed doesn't mean I will".

Nate rolled his eyes as he remembers the morning. "If my mother (Lily) couldn't convince me for the 5 months, what makes you think you will?".

Serafall puffed her cheeks again, stomping one foot like a child denied candy.

"Uuu! But Nate-kun, I'm a Maou! I have the power of persistence, magical girl charm, and endless free time to annoy you until you say yes!"

Nate deadpanned. "...That last one is exactly why I don't want to go to Kuoh."

Kunou was cackling in the background, hugging her tails. "She's right, Nate-nii. You're doomed."

Serafall leaned forward, eyes sparkling mischievously. "C'mon, Nate-kun, think of it! You'll be right there in the middle of all the big stories. Devils, angels, fallen, romance, drama, school festivals~!" She waved her wand dramatically. "It's the perfect stage for your debut as a main character!"

Nate sighed, running a hand down his face. "…You're literally trying to meta-bully me into going."

Serafall winked. "Yup! And it usually works."

Nate turned away, stubborn. "Not on me."

Nate then pointed at her as he spoke. "The only reason you want me to go there is so you can get another Security for your Little Sister".

Serafall froze mid–sparkle pose, her wand still pointed dramatically at the ceiling. "E-Ehh??"

Nate crossed his arms, glaring. "Don't play dumb. I know the truth. You don't just want me at Kuoh because of school festivals or romance drama." His tone turned sharp. "You want me there so you can rest easy knowing your precious little So-tan has someone strong watching her back."

Kunou blinked, then gasped. "…He's right, isn't he?"

Serafall immediately waved her hands, cheeks puffing in panic. "N-Noooo! That's not it at all! I totally just… just…" She trailed off when she saw Nate's unimpressed stare. "…Okay, maybe it's like… 40% that."

Nate raised an eyebrow. "Try 90%."

Serafall's lips curled into a sheepish smile, scratching her cheek. "Fufu… you really are sharp, Nate-kun. Just like Yasaka-chan said."

He sighed, shaking his head. "If I wanted to babysit someone, I'd take a job as a shrine guardian. Not deal with a bunch of hormonal devils in Kuoh."

Kunou clapped her hands together, grinning wide. "Oooh, burn!"

Serafall pouted again, bouncing in place. "Uuuu! You're so mean, Nate-kun! I was trying to make it sound fun!"

Nate turned back to his DS, dismissing her with a wave. "Nice try. You're not tricking me with magical girl speeches."

Serafall narrowed her eyes. "…Then I guess I'll just have to use Plan B."

Kunou's ears perked up. "Plan B?"

Serafall smirked mischievously, her aura starting to shimmer.

Serafall swayed her hips dramatically before plopping herself onto Nate's lap, leaning in so close their noses almost touched. Her voice softened, sing-song sweet.

"Come on, Nate-kun~! Don't you want to see me more often? I do all sorts of magical girl events at Kuoh! Sparkly parades, cosplay festivals, and soooo much fun! You'd get VIP access just for being you."

Nate didn't even flinch. Instead, he calmly reached up and flicked her forehead. Thwip!

"Seduction? Really?" he deadpanned. "I live with Kuroka, remember? You'll have to try harder than a forehead press and a pout."

Serafall recoiled, holding her forehead with a tiny "Ow!" before puffing her cheeks in a childlike sulk.

Nate smirked. "Besides, you're more cute than sexy. Magical girl charm works on kids and fanboys—not on me. Even with that chest of yours, you're basically a walking plush toy with wings."

Kunou burst out laughing so hard she nearly fell off the couch. "BWAHAHA! 'Plush toy with wings'! Oh my gosh, he roasted you!"

Serafall's eyes widened in mock offense, then narrowed in determination. "Ooooh, you're so mean, Nate-kun! But fine… if being cute doesn't work…" She leaned in again, this time with a sly grin. "I'll just turn the cuteness up to max! You won't be able to resist me when I—"

Before she could finish, Nate raised his DS like a shield between them. "Resist button pressed. Game over."

Serafall froze, blinking at the reflection of her pouting face in the DS screen. "…You're impossible."

Nate shrugged. "Told you. If Mom couldn't convince me in five months, what makes you think your magical girl routine's gonna work?"

Serafall folded her arms, puffing out her cheeks again. "…Then I guess I'll just have to escalate to Plan C."

Kunou tilted her head. "Plan… C?"

Serafall smirked devilishly, her aura sparking with a mix of mischief and raw magic. "Let's just say… if I can't sway Nate-kun with charm, I'll bring in someone who can."

Nate arched an eyebrow, unimpressed. "If you're about to say Sona, then forget it. She's way too serious for me to even pretend to fall for your bait."

Serafall just grinned wider, wiggling her fingers like a cartoon villain. "Hehehe~ Oh, Nate-kun… who said it was Sona?"

The door creaked open, and Hailey stepped inside, holding a small bag.

"Hey Nate, I forgot a few things from yesterday's sleepover."

Nate leaned back, eyebrow raised. "You mean the harem cuddle pile?"

Hailey shrugged without shame. "Pretty much."

Before Nate could retort, her eyes landed on the magical girl herself.

"Wait—Serafall?!" Hailey's jaw dropped, and then her whole face lit up like a fangirl. "Oh my gosh! You're actually here! Okay, okay—since you're real and not just on TV… can you sign one of your merch items for me? Pleaseee? I've got your wand replica in my bag! I wanna show it off to my friends!"

Serafall's sulk from earlier evaporated instantly. Her eyes sparkled, and she posed with a wink. "Fufufu~! A true fan!" She twirled dramatically, pulling out a glittery marker from somewhere within her frilly dress. "Of course I'll sign it! Magical Girl Levi-tan always makes time for her admirers!"

Hailey practically shoved the wand at her, eyes shining. "You're the best! Ohhh, everyone at school is going to freak when they see this!"

Kunou whispered to Nate, barely containing her giggles. "Wow… she switched from trying to seduce you to autograph sessions in like, two seconds flat."

Nate muttered under his breath, shaking his head. "Figures. The one person who could derail Serafall's 'Plan C'… is a fangirl with merch."

Serafall finished with a flourish, handing the wand back. "There! Sparkles of love and justice included at no extra charge!" She gave a victory pose, hands on her hips. "Now remember to spread Levi-tan cheer wherever you go, okay?"

Hailey squealed, hugging the wand like it was a holy relic. "Best. Day. Ever!"

Nate crossed his arms, smirking. "Great, now she's got her own PR team in my house."

Serafall stuck her tongue out at him. "Jealous~?"

Kunou chuckled, tail swishing lazily behind her as she watched Hailey practically bounce in excitement.

"The funny part about this," she said, smirking, "is that Hailey's seen Serafall multiple times over the last two years… yet she reacts like this every single time. Like clockwork."

Hailey clutched her newly signed wand, completely ignoring Kunou. "Do you know how rare it is to get a fresh signature directly from Levi-tan herself?! It's like… it's like a limited-edition Yo-kai Medal but with sparkles!"

Serafall beamed, spinning in place as if she had just received the highest compliment imaginable. "Exactly! Every signature is filled with magical girl love and justice energy! Even if you have ten, each one is a treasure!"

Nate groaned, rubbing his temples. "Wonderful. Not only do I have a harem, now I've got groupies hanging around too."

Kuroka, who had just lazily padded into the room, let out a mischievous purr. "Nyaa~ groupies are good, Nate-kun. Means you're important. Though…" she leaned over his shoulder, smirking at Serafall, "it's funny seeing her get upstaged by a middle schooler with a wand collection."

Serafall puffed out her cheeks in protest, stamping her foot. "Hey! I'm not being upstaged—I'm bonding with the youth! It's called being relatable!"

Kunou covered her mouth to hide her laugh. "Relatable? More like recruitable."

Serafall's eyes sparkled as she clasped Hailey's hands dramatically.

"So, Hailey-channn~," she sang in her bubbly voice, "help me convince Nate-kun to come to Kuoh Academy! Pretty please? Magical girl power, activate!"

Hailey blinked… then laughed nervously. "Oh, you're actually serious?" She scratched the back of her head, giving Nate a quick glance before answering. "Sorry, but no can do. If Nate doesn't wanna go, I can't force him—even as one of his girlfriends."

Serafall froze mid-sparkle. "…One of his—wait, girlfriends plural?!"

Hailey shrugged like it was the most casual thing in the world. "Yup. Me, Fumika, Kunou, and… well, a few others. We already talked it over—we're all enrolling at the same high school as Nate. Y Academy, not Kuoh."

Nate gave a smug little smirk from the couch. "See, Sera? Loyalty. You can't bribe your way past that with wands and sparkles."

Kunou leaned against Nate's shoulder, tails flicking proudly. "Mm. Because unlike some people, we don't abandon him for devil drama."

Serafall's jaw dropped. She spun around, pointing at Nate like a lawyer presenting evidence. "T-this isn't fair! You're building a high school harem defense squad just to avoid Kuoh!"

Kuroka purred mischievously from the armrest, "Nyaa~ I like that name. Harem Defense Squad. Has a nice ring to it."
