Chapter 4

‎"Hey darling, c'mon let's cut the cake" my mom said.

‎"Okay, mom, coming" I said.

‎I walked toward the big cake at the center of the room, the glittering candles glowing brightly. My friends and family cheered as I held the knife, my heart racing with excitement. This wasn't just a birthday—it was a new chapter in my life. At twenty, I wasn't the same awkward, timid girl from years ago. I was grown, confident, and beautiful.

‎After then I cut the cake, happy that I'm 20 and mature.

‎The party began to heat up.

‎We partied and I danced a lot with my mom, my brother and Sandra.

‎Boys' eyes lingered on me as I moved, some bold enough to approach.

‎But there was only one gaze that was affecting me and made my skin tingle, one gaze that felt like fire against my soul. Damon's.

‎I caught him watching me from across the room. His expression was unreadable—dark, intense, and possessive. It made my chest tighten and my knees weak.

‎"Hello love. Happy Birthday," A familiar voice said.

‎It was Anthony the guy that have been courting me. He said with a peck, handing me a gift.

‎He was different he wanted me even when I was that nerdy girl with no confidence, he made me feel safe.

‎"Thanks Tony, I said looking up at the handsome man. His dark hair, clean cut and styled, framed his strong features. There was sincerity in his brown eyes that I couldn't ignore.

‎But he wasn't has handsome as Damon.

‎God why I'm I comparing them.

‎"You're welcome, Sarah" he said his voice bringing me back from my thoughts.

‎"Have you thought about what I asked you? About us… if you could be my—"

‎But someone stopped him with a sharp clearing of a throat before he could complete his statement.

‎That voice belonged to only one person.

‎Damon.

‎I turned and there he was, standing tall, his blue eyes locked on me and Anthony. His jaw clenched tightly, his stare dark and challenging.

‎"Sarah can I talk to you" he said with a low but commanding voice.

‎"I was talking to her, Tony said.

‎At this moment both men were glaring at each other, like they were ready to tear each other apart.

‎"c'mon guys" I said quickly.

‎"What's going on here?"

‎"Okay Tony I promise I'll speak to you later let me hear what Damon has to say".

‎Anthony's jaw tightened, but he nodded reluctantly, kissing the top of my hand before walking away. His eyes lingered on me as if reminding me not to forget his place in my life.

‎Tony left.

‎"What do you want Damon". I asked him.

‎"Actually Sarah," he said his voice softer now"I've been meaning to talk to you about something".

‎"And what would that be"?, I asked acting uninterested.

‎His gaze roamed over me slowly.

‎ "You've changed. You're… different now. Beautiful. Confident."

‎My cheek heated up with his deep stare and what he just said.

‎"And?, Yes I've changed and so what?, is that all you've got to say?.

‎I asked disappointed, not hearing something I expected.

‎He stepped closer, close enough that I could smell the faint trace of his cologne. My breath caught.

‎"No that's not all Sarah".
