Chapter 3 - The Rules and a Little More

"That's Camp Wawanakwa, your home for the next eight weeks," Chris waved to the camera as it showed the campfire site, "The campers sitting around you will be your cabin mates, competition, and maybe even your friends."

The campers looked at each other, unsure how close they could possibly get.

"The camper who manages to stay on Total Drama Island the longest without being voted off will win $100,000."

"Excuse me," Duncan chirped, "What will the sleeping arrangements be like, because I'd like to request a letter underneath it?" He pointed at Heather.

Heather gasped in disgust, "They're not co-ed, are they?"

"No, not those kinds of shows," she excused herself, wanting to avoid anything that could get her into too much trouble. "A warning, boys and girls, keep your pants up because I promise anyone who crosses the line will be kicked out."

The teens looked at each other once again. Although some of them were attractive, the idea of knowing that many of their families were watching the show wouldn't be a good idea to let their hormones get the better of them.

"The girls stay on one side of each cabin and the guys on the other," Chris said.

"Excuse me, Kyle?" Lindsay raised her hand. "Can I have a cabin with a lake view since I'm the prettiest one?"

"Did she really say that?" Gwen thought. Apparently, blondes being hollow wasn't a wrong theory.

"Yeah, but that's not really how it works around here..." Chris sighed. "And it's Chris."

"But I have to be with Sadie or I'll die!" Katie said.

"Yeah, or I'll get urgicaria! That's true!" Sadie said.

"That can't be happening." Gwen moaned before Owen grabbed her and Tyler in a headlock. "Aw, come on, guys. This will be fun! Like a sleepover!"

"At least you don't have to sleep next to him," Tyler whispered to Gwen, nodding at Duncan holding a deer on his head as he made a fist against it, only to stop when someone grabbed his wrist.

"You better not do that." Cody could tolerate a lot of things, but upsetting an animal like a servant was something he just wasn't going to allow.

"What?" Letting go of the deer, Duncan gave Cody a challenging look. "A protector of nature?"

"No, just someone who I'm asking you not to be an idiot to," Cody calmly replied. He kept a tight grip on him, causing him to growl.

"Yeah!" Entering the discussion, Bridgette glared at the Punk."You can't hurt animals because you're bored."

Uncomfortable Chris could already feel his phone vibrate, the wildlife protection people would be on him, "Uh... yeah, make sure the animals don't get hurt, there are principles here"

'What a lie' Was the general thought of the interns.

Seeing that it was a losing battle, Duncan let go of the deer and broke free from Cody's grip, he was stronger than he let on, "Fine, no harming animals, understood tree hugger"

Frowning at the boy's attitude, Bridgettete smiled again as she looked at the other, "Thanks for defending the deer, it was nice of you"

Carefree Cody shrugged with a smile, "Anyone could do it"

Bridgettete couldn't help but smile wider, the boy was very nice.

"Possible love interest," though it was still too early to do that, Chris made a mental note, turning back to the camera with the program, "Anyway! Since we're all here, let's split you into two teams since we have even numbers."

The campers perked up at the sight of who their teammates would be for the next few weeks.

"If I call your name, go stand over there." Clipboard in hand, Chris gestured to the right side of the campfire before calling them over, "Gwen, Trent, Heather, Cody, Beth, Lindsay, Katie, Owen, Leshawna, Justin, and Noah."

They all stood up, gathering on the right side of the campfire.

"You, my troubled teens, shall officially be known as..." She paused, swiping her hand in the air as if announcing something, "The Screaming Gophers!"

Tossing the flag back to the group, Cody caught it and unfurled it to reveal a green flag with a picture of, as her team called it, a screaming fish.

"Cool!" Owen muttered.

"What a name." Cody chuckled at his team.

"Wait, what about Katie?" Sadie gasped in horror but Chris ignored her.

"The rest of you, over here." He pointed to his left and called out their names. "Geoff, Bridgette, Courtney, Duncan, Harold, DJ, Eva, Ezekiel, Tyler, Izzy, and Sadie." Introducing the second team, he hoped these would take her place.

"But Sadie's a Mole! I want to be a Mole!" Sadie cried.

"Come on, Katie? Right? Come on." Country escorted Katie back to her group. "It'll be okay."

"It's so unfair!" Katie sobbed. "I'll miss you, Sadie!"

"I miss you too!" Sadie said.

Chris threw them a red flag. "You will officially be known as..." Tyler grabbed it and unfurled it. "The Killer Catfish!"

"Okay, campers!"I'm not sure if I told you this already, but you and your team will be on camera in all public areas during the competition and confessional..." Everyone blinks.

Confessional?

*Camera Switch*

"You'll also be able to share your innermost thoughts or make video diaries whenever you want." Chris smiling at the camera inside the outhouse as flies buzzed around them, "Let the audience at home know what you're really thinking, or just get something off your chest."

Gwen's Confessional

"Um, okay..." Gwen deadpanned, "So far this kind of sucks."

Lindsay's Confessional

"I don't get it..." Linday stands in front of the camera with her back to her, "Where's the cameraman?"

Harold's Confessional

"Does it really have to be an outhouse?" Harold, who was unlucky enough to enter after Owen, remained bitter.

Cody's Confessional

"Well" Cody looked at the camera with a resigned smile, "With Chris's fame, I expected something like this, But hey, when things get tough, make a good face, at least there are good views"

Change of scene

Cody was in his cabin, choosing a bunkmate, taking Noah

He went out a little to get away from Owen's gases, to see Gwen resigned and annoyed on the stairs of the cabins

"To be honest, it seems that we all made a mistake when we signed up" Cody said to Gwen

"Well, 100 thousand, they make everyone make mistakes" Gwen replied

"A pleasure, Cody Anderson" said Cody extending his hand

"Gwen Adams" said Gwen reciprocating the greeting

Before things flowed a scream was heard, running to the cabin they could see Lindsay screaming pointing at a cockroach.

Dj took only to scream and jump, breaking Gwen's bed

"That was my bed" said Gwen tired of the whole situation.

Cody calmly takes out a small bag with which he takes the cockroach. Then he tries to calm Lindsay down.

"Lindsay, look, there's no more cockroach, everything is fine," said Cody trying to calm Lindsay down.

"Thanks, Cole," said Lindsay with a beautiful smile.

"Calm down, if it happens again, talk to me with complete confidence, it is always good for me to help such a pretty blonde," said Cody blushing a little at Lindsay.

Cody left the cabin, just to see Duncan arrive with his axe and Tyler, he could only say that he stole their moments.

After releasing the cockroach in the woods, Gwen returns to her cabin only to find her bed a mess.

She exhales in frustration, crossing her arms as she assesses the damage.

When she turns when she hears footsteps, she sees Cody with tools in hand, smiling as if the situation was completely normal.

"It seems you need help." Cody said in a carefree tone

"Are you going to help me or did you just come to make fun of me?" Gwen said with her arms crossed

"And miss the chance to save you in your hour of need? I wouldn't miss it." Cody said laughing as he approaches.

Gwen snorts ironically, but doesn't complain when Cody starts working.

As they work...

Gwen watches how Cody handles the tools with ease.

"Wow, quite a gentleman... I didn't expect you to be the type to like solving other people's problems." Gwen said raising an eyebrow.

"What can I say, I have a prince complex. If there are damsels in distress, someone's gotta save them." Cody said without stopping working, with a playful air.

"Don't call me princess." Gwen said stopping her gaze on him, with a dry tone.

Cody raises his hands in a sign of peace, but without losing his smile.

"Oh, right, right. So... Maleficent?" Cody said jokingly.

"Do you really think I'm going to accept that?" Gwen said rolling her eyes.

"Well, if I can't be the prince, maybe I have to be Shrek. My Fiona is a bit of a rebel." Cody said shrugging, still making the bed.

Gwen stops for a second... and against all expectations, lets out a slight smile.

"At least Shrek has more character than a boring prince. Maybe that will suit you." Gwen said.

"I knew I had to find another title." Cody said with a gesture of celebration.

When the bed is finally ready, Gwen observes the result, nods approvingly, and looks at Cody with a little more respect.

The speakers sounded, calling them to the dining cabin.

All the campers were welcomed into the dining room, where they were greeted by a two-meter-tall African-American man with a musculature that made several feel scared, and judging by his face, it was even worse.

"Listen, your mommy is not here, you will eat and you will like it! Understood?!" The chef's shout made all the teenagers stand at attention.

"Campers, this is the man who will feed you for the next few weeks, Chef Hatchet!"

"Cut the introduction! All you need to know is that you'll be eating three times a day! Grab your trays, grab your food, and sit down now!"

"E-Excuse me," Beth stammered, "Are we getting all the major food groups?" Chef ignored them all as

he scooped up the ground beef and filled their trays.

"Someone's screwed up already," Owen whispered to Noah with a grin, unfortunately he was heard by the ex-soldier in the kitchen.

"What was that?" Chef grunted and beckoned him closer, "Come closer, fatty. I can't hear you."

"Um... I didn't really say anything important." Owen laughed nervously, grabbing his tray.

"I'm sure you didn't..." the chef growled, scaring the fat boy who wisely ran to his table, now looking at Noah, he gave him a mocking smile, "And you, skinny kid. Give me your plate!" He dropped another spoonful of food, only for it to jump back on his spoon, angrily he put it back on the tray.

"The meat moved?" Noah felt his stomach turn at something that seemed to wriggle on his plate.

"Next!"

Cody took his tray and without saying anything received his food, then bowed, "Thank you sir"

Chef's Confessional

"Finally! Someone with respect!" Chef grunted, crossing his arms. "Do you know how rare it is to find a teenager who actually respects and eats my food without complaining about my cooking?" I sighed, rolling my eyes.

Gwen's Confessional

"I think my food just moved..." Gwen stared at her food before Chef pressed it down with a deadpan look on her face, "...Right..."

All the groups sat down with their teams, each resigned to eating.

"..." With a blank look Gwen pushed her burger away, and raised an eyebrow when a chocolate bar was slid across the table.

"Consider it a trade" Cody cheerfully handed her the chocolate bar and he took the burger.

"Oh gee, thanks a lot" Gwen appreciated the gesture, she felt foolish for not having brought some outside with her before coming to this camp.

"How can you eat this?" Heather stabbed at the burger as it wanted to jump out at her face, she knew you could cook something raw, but this was still alive.

"It's not the worst thing I've ever eaten," Cody replied nonchalantly as he finished his second burger, ignoring how Beth tried to bite into her burger, but it slipped out of her hands and dragged itself across the floor.

At the catfish table, only a few were eating.

"Hey, man," Geoff looked up from his tray, his burger eating into his salad, "Can we get a pizza?"

His answer came like a butcher knife that flew past his head and sliced through the door above Chris's.

"WOW! I didn't say anything! Hats off to the Chef!"

After seeing that, everyone started eating, they wished their heads were on their necks.

"Delicate, weak brats," Chef grumbled from behind the bar.

All spoiled teenagers with delicate palates.

Except for the punk worm, the crazy orange-headed girl, the brown-haired brat, and the fat guy, who was already eating his fourth burger.

Chris chuckled at the scene, these teens didn't know what was in store for them with Chef, "Finish eating soon, your first challenge starts in an hour" without another bell, they turned on their heels and walked out.

"What do you think they're going to make us do?" Katie complained.

DJ put his hand on her shoulder, "Don't worry, I'm sure it won't be bad, maybe it'll just be a relaxing challenge."
