"DXD: Transfer Student"Chapter 156: I Hope It's the Barefoot Kind
The atmosphere in the storage room was on a knife's edge.
Rias stared, not quite following Draconis's pointed remark. What did any of this have to do with her? She hadn't taught Xenovia a thing—had she?
Akeno's lips curled in a sweet, dangerous smile. "Ara ara, Xenovia's playing dirty. Clearly, I should be the one making babies with him." The air around her shimmered with a menacing energy.
Hell hath no fury like a jealous woman.
Asia piped up, voice trembling. "D-Draconis, if you ever want to, I'm… I'm always ready…"
Koneko just frowned, arms crossed. "Can't let our guard down for a second." She was convinced she'd end up with Draconis eventually. Her feelings for him were obvious—just unspoken, for now.
Draconis, pinned beneath Xenovia on the soft mat, could only offer the girls a helpless smile. How was any of this his fault? He was the one being acted upon here—literally.
But Xenovia, unfazed by the audience, locked eyes with him, sincerity blazing. "What's wrong? Come on, let's have a child."
"…Do you not care about the mood at all?" Draconis muttered. He had zero doubt she'd drag him into a live demonstration if given the chance. Apparently, social cues meant nothing to her.
He was outmatched. Completely.
Rias and Akeno exchanged glances, expressions shifting from shock to exasperation. Without another word, they swooped in, peeling Draconis out of Xenovia's grasp.
"Draconis, I know you're not reckless, but—having a child? Care to explain?" Rias tried for a friendly smile, but it came out more like a threat.
God, that smile was terrifying.
Akeno's own smile stayed gentle, but the danger lurking beneath it was palpable. "Yes, Draconis, you're not the desperate type. What kind of negotiation leads to baby talk, hm?"
Never trust a squinty-eyed senpai.
Dragged free, Draconis still managed to keep his composure. "Would you believe me if I said I was passive the whole time?"
Koneko stepped forward, face blank, and promptly lifted Draconis off the ground—horizontal, bridal-carry style—and started toward the door.
He sighed inwardly. Please, let Koneko's monster strength be reserved for emergencies.
Watching him get hauled away, Xenovia called after him, undeterred. "I'll come find you whenever I get a chance. Be ready to make a baby."
"Fine, but at least respect the order. First come, first served," Draconis replied, voice steady as Koneko carted him off.
And just like that, another wild card had joined his harem roster.
That night, after dinner, Draconis settled in for his nightly phone call with Mai Sakurajima.
It was routine now—unless they met in person, they'd always check in by phone. But lately, Mai's schedule had been packed, ever since she'd stepped in for Toyohama Nodoka. Time for romance was scarce.
"You're working yourself to the bone, Mai."
"It'd be much easier if you just solved this for me sooner," Mai replied, her voice calm and unhurried.
She was a lot like Draconis—steady, mature, rarely flustered. But every now and then, she'd slip, and those moments of vulnerability were impossibly cute.
"It's not time yet. Once the commercial shoot happens, we'll wrap things up in one go. Hang in there a few more days, okay?" Draconis soothed, his tone gentle.
"Don't make Nodoka cry," Mai warned, still cool as ever.
"I'm not that rough."
"I mean, don't be too gentle. That's what girls can't handle, idiot."
She scolded him softly, her words wrapped in warmth.
"…'Gentle' isn't exactly my style," Draconis chuckled. He honestly didn't see himself as the gentle type.
"Who knows? With you, I bet you're gentle without even noticing," Mai said, certain. Draconis couldn't find any evidence for that, but he let it slide.
"I'm a devil, Mai."
"I know."
"So I'll never be gentle."
"That's for the best," she replied, voice steady. "I have no interest in sharing you with my sister."
"What if I accidentally make her cry?"
"Then I'll step on you."
"Got it. I'll do my best to make her cry."
"I'll be wearing shoes."
"I'd prefer barefoot."
"We'll see how you behave," Mai teased.
The call ended. Draconis stretched, a small smile tugging at his lips.
Back in the castle's lounge, Rias and the rest were gathered.
"Done with your little girlfriend?" Rias asked, a trace of annoyance in her voice.
"I spend plenty of time with you all, don't I?" Draconis replied, settling beside her.
"It's not like I care about you seeing other women."
Akeno grinned slyly. "If that's how you feel, I won't hold back."
"You're out of the question. You'd corrupt him completely," Rias sniffed.
Akeno just shook her head, still smiling. "Say what you want, but I'm taking Draconis somewhere special tomorrow."
Draconis turned to her. "Something important?"
"Mm. After I reported your holy-demonic dual cultivation, someone asked to meet you."
"Who?"
Akeno's smile deepened. "Archangel Michael."
"Lord Michael?" Xenovia gasped. "Why does he want to see Draconis?"
Rias frowned. "He doesn't have anything nefarious planned, does he…?"
"Probably not," Draconis said calmly. "If he wants to meet, he's definitely informed your brother."
"Right. According to Maou-sama, it'll be very beneficial for you," Akeno confirmed.
"…My brother said so?" Rias mused, then smiled. "If that's the case, you two should go tomorrow. I'll arrange for you to have the day off."
