They kept at their studies until nearly eleven, exhaustion settling over the room like a soft blanket.
"I brewed some coffee—anyone want a cup?" Itsuki offered, her voice gentle and domestic.
"Absolutely!"
The chorus was unanimous. Draconis joined Itsuki, heading to the kitchen to help carry mugs.
As the two disappeared, Ichika sidled up to Miku, bumping her shoulder with a sly grin. "Come on, Miku. Opportunities like this don't come often. You really gonna let it slip by?"
Miku blinked, cheeks tinged pink. "I have no idea what you mean…"
Ichika just chuckled, eyes sparkling with mischief. When Draconis returned with the coffee, Ichika raised her hand. "Hey, Draconis—it's so late already. Why not stay the night? We could do morning study together!"
"Eh?"
Draconis hadn't even answered yet, but the other girls were already staring, wide-eyed.
He shook his head, polite but firm. "Wouldn't want to impose. I can just teleport here in the morning."
"It's fine! Miku can sleep in my room, and you take hers. There's still stuff in the notes I don't get—I want to ask you about it tonight." Ichika winked at Miku, who finally caught on.
"I—I want to ask questions too…" Miku stammered, face now fully red.
Nino and the others exchanged suspicious glances. Since when did these two get so obsessed with studying?
Draconis shrugged. He didn't care either way—a bed was a bed.
"Alright. After coffee, I'll go over whatever you need."
"No rush," Ichika said, grinning. "After coffee, everyone should take a bath and relax."
Once the coffee was gone, Yotsuba and Itsuki each claimed a bathroom, while Draconis sat down with Ichika and Miku for some "extra" tutoring.
Nino glanced over, bored, then padded upstairs in her slippers.
"Yawn~ I get it now. Miku probably doesn't, so you two go ahead. I'm going to the balcony for some fresh air." With a wink, Ichika left Miku alone with Draconis.
Miku sat, awkward and nervous. Draconis smiled. "Relax. I'm not going to bite."
Miku flushed, but nodded. Draconis settled beside her, pen in hand, guiding her through the problems—one-on-one, a private lesson.
Five minutes in, Miku could barely focus. Draconis was so close, her heart thudded in her chest.
"Draconis…" she whispered.
"Hm?"
"I'm… kinda hungry. Is there anything you want to eat?"
Draconis thought for a moment. "Maybe some cake? Something sweet."
"I have some in my room—I'll get it!" Miku's face lit up, and she dashed upstairs, soon returning with a bag of packaged cakes.
"Here."
"Thanks."
Draconis took a piece, just as Nino's door opened and she came down the stairs.
"I'm starving… Got anything to eat? Wait, is that cake? Gimme some."
She reached for the bag, but Miku immediately shielded it, placing it in front of Draconis and glaring at Nino. "Not for you."
"Come on, just a bite! Don't be stingy. I'll make you some tomorrow if you want!"
Nino tried again, but Miku wouldn't budge. Nino relented, grumbling. "It's just cake. Why so serious…"
Draconis looked between them, amused and a little helpless. "I'll just have one piece, Miku. You can share the rest with your sisters—I'm not actually hungry."
Suddenly, Miku shoved the whole bag into Nino's hands. "Fine, you eat it. I'll bake for Draconis tomorrow."
Nino stared, baffled. "You… bake? You sure that's safe for him?"
Well, he's a devil. Probably immune to food poisoning.
"…You're acting weird!" Nino muttered, hugging the cake bag and settling down to eat.
Miku's face was blank, but her mind was already planning tomorrow's recipe. The textbook was forgotten.
Draconis couldn't help a quiet sigh. What was his life, exactly?
Soon, Yotsuba and Itsuki finished their baths, followed by the others. Draconis was last.
He sank into the tub, eyes half-closed, feeling magic swirl inside him. Ever since the battle days ago, his power had hit a wall. Akeno said he'd absorbed everyone's magic while unconscious—Rias and Asia together hadn't been enough to sate him.
Eventually, Akeno and Koneko had joined the "refueling" effort. For three days and two nights, they'd taken shifts until Draconis finally stopped absorbing magic.
But despite all that, he couldn't find where the magic had gone. His power was maxed out for a mid-class devil—just one step from high-class.
He'd checked his condition every day, but nothing changed. Maybe the magic was swallowed by that black fortress in his consciousness. For now, that was the only explanation.
After his bath, Draconis returned to the living room.
"Took you long enough. Don't tell me you were savoring the bathwater left by all these beautiful girls?" Ichika teased, laughing.
Draconis didn't miss a beat. "The flavor was a bit weak. If Miku had soaked longer, maybe it'd be richer."
Miku: "…???"
Everyone: "…"
The girls stared, speechless. Hoping to see Draconis embarrassed was clearly a lost cause.
Then they noticed his clothes. "Wait, didn't you forget to bring a change?"
"These aren't real clothes," Draconis said, smiling.
He'd conjured a set of loungewear out of magic—convenient as could be.
"Wow, so you can just create any outfit you want?" The girls' eyes sparkled.
"Exactly," he replied.
