Chapter 73 - 《DXD: Transfer Student》Chapter 73: We Can't Take It Anymore

Common Sense Alteration magic was a weird thing. Not only could it tweak how people perceived reality, it could also mess with their memories. While Draconis explained math concepts—textbook open, pointer tapping—he quietly used the spell to help the quintuplets absorb the material. Like it or not, the knowledge was going in.

"In math, memorizing formulas isn't enough. You have to know how to use them—connect the dots, solve real problems. Let's try some examples."

He kept his tone patient, even as the girls' attention wandered. Magic or not, they were still mentally checked out.

Didn't matter. Draconis was determined to force-feed them—knowledge, that is.

Half an hour later, he rapped his knuckles on the table. "Any questions about what I just covered?"

"Ah, we remember everything!" All five chimed in, nodding enthusiastically.

Draconis glanced at Yotsuba's notebook, spotting a doodled flower in the margins. He nodded. "Nice drawing, Yotsuba."

"Ahaha…" Yotsuba scratched her head, sheepish.

"Take ten. Break time," Draconis said quietly.

Instant mood shift—everyone perked up. Even Miku, usually the silent type, brightened at the announcement.

Nino tossed her pen aside and collapsed onto the table. "Why do we still have to sit through lectures when you've got magic? So unfair…"

Clearly, she was still bitter that Draconis couldn't just wave a wand and make them geniuses.

These girls really had zero love for studying.

Itsuki muttered, "Ugh… My head hurts every time class starts. Is there something wrong with me?"

Draconis looked over, deadpan. "Don't worry. You're probably just growing a brain."

Itsuki: "…??" Everyone: "…"

The table erupted in laughter and groans. Itsuki puffed her cheeks, looking like an indignant squirrel.

This guy… always with the snark.

Ichika stretched, smiling slyly. "It's Saturday—the mall should be packed. Want to go shopping this afternoon?"

"I'm in! There's a new movie I want to see," Nino jumped in.

Miku shook her head. "I'd rather stay home." She'd been hooked on a new Three Kingdoms strategy game lately—no way she was leaving her console.

Yotsuba was a social butterfly, always busy with club activities and never turning down an invite.

As for Itsuki… she'd pick the food court over shopping any day.

Draconis sat quietly, letting them chatter. Eventually, all eyes turned to him.

"What about you, Draconis? What do you usually do?"

The five girls were dying to know more about their mysterious tutor. During lessons, they'd sneak glances, trying to reconcile the idea of this calm, patient guy being an actual devil.

Nino especially couldn't help herself. She thought, Are all devils this handsome? He's exactly my type…

Not that she'd ever say it out loud. Too embarrassing.

Draconis considered for a moment, then replied simply, "School. Training. Fulfilling contracts. Fighting."

"Huh??" Miku blurted. "Fighting as in… duels?"

"Like, magic battles?" Nino perked up.

Miku shot her a look. "Hey, I asked first."

"What's the difference? Draconis, spill!"

He smiled at their curiosity. "Pretty much magic flying everywhere. Sometimes it's life-or-death."

"Life-or-death?!" Miku's eyes sparkled. "Like, real warriors?"

Draconis gave her a puzzled glance. She had no idea his 'duels' were more like battles to the death with fallen angels—nothing noble or honorable, just survival.

Let them imagine whatever they wanted.

Ichika's voice turned cautious. "Isn't that dangerous?"

"There have been close calls," Draconis said, his tone matter-of-fact. "But I've gotten lucky so far."

His calmness made the girls' imaginations run wild. If he'd really faced death, how could he be so chill?

Nino's eyes darted. Without warning, she reached out and squeezed Draconis's arm.

He turned, surprised. Nino snapped her hand back, sitting up straight.

"What's up?" he asked.

"N-nothing…" Her cheeks flushed as she gulped down some water, internally screaming, Oh my god, his muscles are solid! And he looks so normal…

Get a grip, Nino. He's dangerous. Don't get too close.

Draconis ignored the moment. "If anyone needs a bathroom break, go now. Study session resumes in five."

The girls groaned, faces falling.

"Ugh, no more…"

Draconis sighed. "We've barely started."

"But we can't take it anymore…" Ichika pouted, playing up her exhaustion. "We're dying here…"

"I'm the one doing all the heavy lifting," Draconis pointed out. "You're just sitting there, barely reacting."

He looked at the five identical faces—expressions ranging from pouty to playful. Amusing, really.

"That's not true! We're trying our best to keep up…" Nino protested, lips pursed.

"Let's go slow. There's plenty of time…" Miku murmured.

"Yeah, no need to rush…" Itsuki agreed.

Only Yotsuba stayed upbeat. "I'm good! Let's keep going, Draconis—bring it on!"

Yotsuba really was the MVP.

Draconis smiled, then paused. Wait… Something about this conversation felt off.
