Chapter 18 - Strip

"The hell do you mean it arrived a day early?" Aria, she uttered in such irritation as the helicopter started to descend, "I mean what I said!" Gravemire stretched out under the morning sun, it was cold with an easy rhythm, neatly trimmed lawns and neatly arranged houses, weathered mailboxes, faded paint, wind chimes swaying gently in the breeze. Kids played in driveways, laughing, the occasional basketball bouncing against garage doors.

"Nice neighbourhood." Lucan said as they seemingly got closer to a field, "Yeah, for the edge of Altitude Bay. The Fang keep thugs out of Gravemire; the most they are responsible for is selling drugs." The helicopter finally hit the ground with a soft thud as Aria and Nova unstrapped themselves. Kairo followed, but Lucan didn't react. He was unusually focused as Aria opened the door, and Lucan finally reacted.

He exited after Kairo, he thanked Tessa, and they started to walk quickly. The helicopter surprisingly didn't take off but powered down. When Kairo's feet hit the ground, Aria spoke, "We'll go on foot. It's about 15 minutes." Aria and Nova moved ahead, Kairo close behind, while Lucan stayed just a step back, eyes scanning. The street stretched on in both directions.

People clearly enjoyed life, kids on bikes, guys chilling on porches. They walked as a squad, some tall teenagers hooping. One of the kids was tall and white, clearly practising his moves, a sweep haircut, 6'8, about 180 pounds, called out to Nova, "Miss, let me chat to you." The other one spoke, he was shorter at 6'6, clearly a small forward, "Just check the ball." Nova wasn't amused.

She scoffed as two gangsters, shorts, sunglasses, and straps hanging out their trousers, just looked at them. They called to another gang member, who stuck his head out. He whispered to the guy who came out, "Strips' no longer safe, ABPU man on the strip."
