Chapter 4 - 4

After Shawn finished speaking, he looked at Lyra, who had been smiling at him the whole time. He did not know what she was thinking. He feared that she might say something he did not want to hear.

He still hoped Lyra would say she did not mind, so he could be with her. But he was afraid she would say she could not accept him. If that happened, would he still be able to stand by the words he had just told her?

Lyra saw Shawn's face slowly turn dark because she stayed quiet. His whole body tensed, and he stared at her without blinking. Lyra then lifted her head and gave him a big, beautiful smile.

"I don't mind! This is not a big deal."

"What, what did you say?" Shawn looked confused, as if he really had not heard her words clearly.

"I said I don't mind that you can't have children. As long as we are fine, we will still have kids in the future!" Lyra spoke each word clearly. In her heart, she thought, isn't there still the birth pills? And if not, she also had her easy-to-conceive body. Why worry so much?

Shawn finally understood what she meant. "You really don't mind?"

"It's true! I don't mind. As long as it still works, then it's fine. Not being able to have kids isn't such a big deal." Then she thought of something and quickly asked, "Wait, you can still use it, right?" Lyra looked at him with a serious face, wanting to make sure.

"No, no, that part has no problem. It's only the sperm that doesn't work. Everything else is fine." Shawn quickly explained, worried she might misunderstand.

"Then there's no problem. As long as that part works, the rest is not an issue."

"You really don't mind? If so, I'll submit our marriage report tomorrow. Once I do that, it won't be easy for you to divorce later. I want you to think it through."

"Yes, I know! I'm also planning for no divorce. And it's not even certain we won't have children, right? Why are you overthinking?" Lyra said and rolled her eyes at him.

"Alright! Then it's settled. You rest first, I'll go wash up." Shawn walked away quickly, as if he feared Lyra might change her mind and tell him she had only been joking.

Lyra found his reaction funny. She lay down on the bed, then spoke with her system for a while. Soon, she could not hold on and slowly fell asleep.

When Shawn came back after washing, he saw a sleeping beauty lying on his bed. He walked slowly toward her. Looking at Lyra's clean, fair face, his heart softened. He thought, this person will be my wife in the future. As he thought, the corners of his mouth slowly lifted into a smile.

Shawn had always believed he would live alone for the rest of his life. Since that incident, he had never been able to move on. The doctors told him not to be so pessimistic. They said there was still a little chance, and if there was a little chance, then there was still hope.

But deep in his heart, Shawn knew that chance was very small. He never held hope for it. Now someone told him she did not mind that he could not have children. This gave him great strength to live again. He felt thankful to Lyra. From now on, he wanted to love her more, spoil her more. She was so good, she deserved to always be happy.

Thinking this, Shawn lay down on the sofa and fell asleep.

Early the next morning, Lyra was woken up by the army's wake-up call. When she opened her eyes, she saw that Shawn was already dressed and ready to go out.

"You're going out?" Lyra asked sleepily in a soft voice.

"Yes, I'm going to watch the morning drills. You sleep a little more. I'll bring breakfast back later," Shawn said as he walked toward the door.

"Okay!" Lyra replied, then turned over to face the wall and went back to sleep.

As Shawn was about to close the door, he looked at Lyra lying on the bed. At that moment, he felt happiness. This was what it felt like to have someone waiting for him at home.

When Lyra woke up again, it was already ten in the morning. Shawn was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper. Hearing the sound, he turned his head and saw her awake.

"You're awake. Go wash up and eat breakfast."

"Okay. How long have you been back? Why didn't you wake me up?"

"I saw you sleeping so well, so I didn't wake you. I'm not busy today anyway, so I let you sleep a little longer."

"Did you eat already? Wait for me a moment, I'll be right there."

"Alright, go ahead." Shawn took out the breakfast one by one and placed it neatly on the table.

After washing up, Lyra came out and sat at the table with Shawn. "Where are we going later? Is it far?"

"We'll go into the city. There are more things there. The army camp doesn't have much. I also need to take care of some things, and don't you need to buy some things too?"

"Okay, but is it far? Will it delay your work? If it's not far, I can go alone. You can handle your business, you don't have to go with me."

"It's fine. I just need to take a file to the police station. It takes an hour to get there. I wouldn't feel at ease if you went alone. Also, today I submitted our marriage report. In a few days, it should be approved, and then we can get our marriage certificate. Is that okay with you?"

"Of course. Anytime is fine for me. I don't have any problem with it."

"Then let's go after eating."

"Okay, let's go. I'm done eating."

"Wait a moment, let me get something for you," Shawn said.

"What is it?"

Shawn took a passbook and some cash from the cabinet. "This is my passbook, and here's this month's salary. I'll give them all to you. Whatever you want to buy, just buy it. From now on, you'll manage the household."

"Me, manage the house? Aren't you afraid I'll waste all the money?"

"Leaving the household matters to you, aren't you afraid you will waste money?"

"How much money do you have in this bankbook!" Lyra said while opening it. "Why is there so much money inside!" She saw the twenty thousand yuan in the bankbook and gasped.

"My salary and allowance are all in there. Except for the fifty yuan I send to my parents every month, the rest is saved. I earn more than one hundred eighty a month, plus some allowance. Since I live in the army and don't spend money, meals are provided, so I save it."

"You should keep it yourself! I'm afraid I might lose it. It's safer if you hold on to it!"

"Take it. If I need money, you can give it to me then!"

"Alright! I'll keep it. If you need money, I'll give it to you."

"Good. Let's go! The car is downstairs," Shawn said as he walked out the door, waiting for Lyra to put on her clothes.

Lyra thought they were going to the city today and also planned to take their wedding photo. She wore a small floral dress. This dress was specially made for her when she lost weight. Mother Qin had gone to town, bought fabric, and tailored it for her.

"Do I look pretty?" Lyra asked, spinning once in front of Shawn.

"Pretty! Very pretty," Shawn said, his face turning red.

"Really?" Lyra purposely leaned close to Shawn.

"Yes, really," Shawn answered and walked down the stairs.

Lyra closed the door with a mischievous smile and followed him. It was almost mealtime, so no one was around when they left.

After driving to the city, Shawn first went to the police station to deliver some documents. When he came out, he asked Lyra, "What do you want to buy?"

"Just some women's products and things like that!"

"Alright, let's go to the supply store. They have more variety there."

"Okay!"

"I also want to take our wedding photo. Otherwise, when we get our marriage certificate, we won't have one."

"Then let's take the photo first and shop afterward. Is that alright?"

"Yes, that's fine!"
