"Mom, Dad, look!" A young boy with one tooth apart pointed to the flying balloon at the amusement park.
The man and woman smiled. They were both holding the boy's hands when suddenly, their face disappeared and black blood covered the view.
"Noooo!" Feng screamed before he opened his eyes. He sat up and stared at his palm. "Mom, Dad, I miss you so much. I promise I will avenge you," he said.
He stood up and looked at the mirror. There were injuries on his face, so he checked the cabinet for a first aid kit and found something. He put bandages on his injuries before going outside.
"Hey, Feng," Kurt greeted. "I haven't seen you around recently. So, what happened with the assassination club?"
"I passed," Feng replied. "I passed the test, and my training has just begun."
"Now I know where you got those injuries," Kurt said. "I'm glad that you made it."
"It's just as you've said, if the door won't open, it's probably not my door, because the door that belongs to me is already open, and there's no need to force it," Feng replied.
"That's right. Sometimes we feel like all the doors are closed, but it's actually a redirection," Kurt said.
Feng's stomach grumbled just as the bell rang. So he and Kurt immediately went to the dining hall, as they didn't want to be late again. They took their food assistance from the counter and shared a table.
"So, tell me more about yourself. How did you end up here?" Kurt asked.
"My parents were killed by monsters. I was running away from squeaky rats, and I thought it was the end of the world when a man saved me. Then he talked about the academy of the Saviors and asked if I wanted to learn how to fight those zombies and monsters. I felt like my life was meaningless because my parents had just died, so I went with him," Feng narrated.
"That's tragic. But I'm glad you're alright," Kurt said.
"What do you mean?" Feng asked.
"I mean, I'd be alone now if I hadn't met you. Just like you, I'm also a loner. I don't have any friends in this place, even though I may appear as popular," Kurt explained.
"So we're the same." Feng continued eating.
After having breakfast with Kurt, Feng went to the training ground for assassins. Kurt tagged along with him, as he wanted to see his training.
"Who's this boy?" Allen asked, his glare piercing through Kurt.
"Please don't be so intimidating, sir. He's my friend," Feng said.
"I'm Kurt," Kurt added, mustering the courage to talk to the intimidating leader of the assassination club.
"And what are you doing here?" Allen asked. "Only assassins and spies are allowed in this area."
"I'm here to support Feng, sir. Please let me stay; I want to see his training," Kurt said.
"You can stay, but don't interfere with anything, or you'll die," Allen warned.
Allen's words sent shivers down Kurt's spine. He didn't expect that he would be this intimidating even though Feng already informed him.
Feng wanted to impress his friend, so he did his best with the training. But he was still nothing compared to Allen. He could barely dodge his swift attacks. After the training, his whole body was aching. He felt like his bones were cracked.
"I know what you need," Kurt said. "Let's go to a hot spring and have a massage."
"Um!" Feng agreed.
So, Feng and Kurt went to the hot spring. They dipped themselves in the warm water.
"So relaxing!" Feng remarked.
"Right? This water might help you fully recover from your wounds," Kurt said.
A few moments later, a girl entered the hot spring. It seemed like she didn't know only boys were allowed here. Her face turned red like a ripe tomato when she saw Feng and Kurt. She immediately went out of the water and ran away.
"Thank God! My eyes aren't virgin anymore," Kurt said, running his fingers through his reddish hair.
Feng didn't say or do anything. He was completely shocked. His Adam's apple bobbed. Then he thought: that girl must be so embarrassed. He stepped out of the water and put a white towel around his waist.
"Feng! You're leaving already?" Kurt asked.
"Uh, um," Feng replied. He went out of the hot spring and continued to his room. He was exhausted after a long day of training and fell asleep as he lay down on his bed.
The next day, Feng woke up late, so he didn't have his breakfast. He went to the assassination club and began his third day of training. But his stomach was complaining. Allen asked him what was wrong, but he was too shy to tell him the truth.
"You're starving, aren't you?" Allen asked. "You don't have to be shy if you need anything. Just go speak it out. You can't fight monsters with an empty stomach. Go and grab something to eat."
"T—thank you, sir!" Feng replied, bowing his head. He immediately went to the canteen to grab something to eat, but he didn't have a penny, so he asked if he could have something to eat for free.
An old woman pitied him, and she gave him bread and a bowl of soup. Feng ate it all to his heart's content. He knew he had to find a part-time job in order to buy his needs, so he asked the old woman if he could work for her.
The old woman smiled and said, "Yes, you can work for me, dear. I badly need an assistant."
"Thank you so much, ma'am!" Feng couldn't hide the wide smile on his face. He suddenly hugged the old woman.
Feng started working for the old woman. She owned a spot in the school dining hall, and her food was always sold out to the students. Some students even tried to trick her, but Feng stopped them.
After lunch, Feng went back to the assassination club and started his afternoon training, but it was cut off when they heard the alarm due to the large number of monsters trying to get into the academy.
Allen called all the assassins to assemble. Then he made an order to protect the academy and not let a single monster enter no matter what happened. Everyone went outside their guilds to protect the academy.
