Chapter 2 - What the Hell?

*Huff*

*Huff*

*Huff*

*Bam!*

"Agh!" Ow. I think my ribs just broke. "Ugh, did you have to hit me so hard, old man? Couldn't you hold back? This is just training after all."

"Heh, I did hold back. And who are you calling old?"

Yuusei Kurosaki (Hero Name: Null)

Quirk: Halt

Description: He can completely paralyze or stop anything he touches. This power can also extend from a support gear like his Capturing Weapon.

"It would've been fine if you actually fought me without your support gear." Man, my whole body feels extra sore just from standing up.

"Well, tough luck, kid, that's not how real heroes work. Sometimes you might have to take action without your suit. And-" I interrupt him before he goes on and on about what it's like to be a hero.

"Yeah, I know, Dad. You've been told plenty of times." We begin to do some quick stretches to cool down. "So, what do you think? You think I can actually pass the entrance exam?" It's been fourteen years since I was diagnosed with my basically non-existent quirk. And throughout those years, not a single sign of it awakening. So, instead, I dedicated my free time to training by myself, and sometimes with my parents. A light warning: never, ever, pick a fight with my mom.

"Honestly? Yeah, I think you have a chance. UA doesn't really change its practical exam much, since there's no need to fix what's not broken, and from what I can remember, you should be able to pass it with flying colors." He handed me a bottle of water as we sat relaxed in our training room. "You know, I could've sworn you sounded nervous there for a second. We all know that even though your quirk refuses to wake up, your body is already enhanced. Or else you wouldn't be able to lift two-fifty kilos with one hand." He chuckled.

"I guess so. Anyways, I gotta go, or else Old Man Yama's gonna be on my ass again. See ya, old man." Waving behind me as I walk into my personal hell, dreading the next few hours.

"Alright, gotta go patrol anyway." And just as I exit the gym, "And watch your tone, brat! I am not old!"

... A few hours later ...

You know, sometimes it feels as if I'm still back in my old world. Apart from having superheroes around, and my dad being one, I've had quite a normal life, to the point that it's pretty much the same as my past life.

"Kid!" Never mind. Here comes flaming hot fossil. That's one thing that separates this job from my old one. This one had a senile old man running the show.

"Yeah, boss?" I turn around, ready to tank whatever punishment he's about to send my way.

"Good work."

Shigekuni Yamamoto

Quirk: Unknown

Description: No one knows of his quirk or if he has one.

"Wait, what?" Trying to clear my ears, "I'm not sure I heard you right. Did you say 'good work'?" I must be dreaming, right? There's no way this grumpy fossil would say that.

"I did, and you better not let it go to your head, boy."

.

.

.

"Now go home and rest! I'll see you here again on Monday. You'd better keep this performance up, and maybe I'll lighten your workload." I watch him as he walks away with that cane of his.

"Well, better than nothing, I suppose." After clocking out, I head out to the parking lot, finally free from my job.

*Yawn*

"Oh man, I must've pushed myself more than usual earlier this morning." I get into my car and immediately head home.

...

I finally reached my house, but I could not go anywhere else except my room. I don't know where this headache came from, but fuck! It hurts.

"Ugh. What the hell?" Barely making it to my bed; luckily, I didn't face-plant on my floor. *Sigh* So comfortable. And so, so, so tired.

.

.

.

"What? Where am I?" Raising my head, prop myself up with my elbows and look around me. Water. That's all it was, endless water and an endless plain. Not a single ripple or wave disturbs the tranquil waters except me. I stand up, still trying to look around, hoping for something to change.

"Here."

I turn around to the source of the voice, only to be greeted by. "What the hell!?" It was a giant arm, clothed in some sort of ceremonial garb. The weirdest part, other than being a clothes-wearing giant arm? It had an eye on the back of the hand. What's worse is that it was staring right at me. It reminded me of something.

"What is this? What are you?"

"I am what you have desired for most."

"Desired? My quirk! You are, aren't you?" I get closer to...it? "Why are you only showing up now? And how is this possible? I've never heard of a quirk that...chooses to wake up when it wants."

"The how is not necessary for you to know. What you need to know is that a great threat has risen once again."

"A great threat? Can I at least know what that means?"

"You will see soon enough. I must warn you, child, while this threat has awakened us, it is this same danger that will attempt to take us."

"Wait, what? Us? There's more of you? And what do you mean by this 'threat' will take you?" In a blink, the hand becomes faded. "Hey, wait!"

"I have blessed you with a portion of my strength. Grow stronger, or else you will be robbed of everything."

"Wait-"

.

.

.

"-Mimihagi!" Getting up from my bed, my right hand trying to reach the figure that appeared before me.

As I gather myself and think clearly, "That was Mimihagi. Or at least I think it was. Eye on the back of the hand, plus the weird clothes...it has to be—the right arm of the Soul King." I inspect the back of my right hand, but not a single sign of cha-

*Squelch*

"What the hell!?"
