Naruto was still rolling on the pavement, laughing uncontrollably, when Mikoto's gaze turned sharply to the nervous Uchiha subordinate still hovering nearby. "Didn't I tell you to leave already?" she said, voice crisp and full of warning. "Get lost before I fry you into Uchiha fricassee." The man trembled, bowing so low his forehead nearly scraped the street. "Y-yes, my lady. What should I tell Lord Fugaku?" "I don't care what you tell him," she snapped. "Get lost — and tell him not to bother me again." The subordinate flinched again and backed away, nearly stumbling over himself in his rush to vanish down the street.
Raven stood quietly, watching the entire exchange with an unreadable expression. Mikoto's tone is not just authoritative—it was sharp, and deliberate. And the man's fear was genuine. So, she's talking to her husband's enforcer that way? Interesting. Maybe things between Mikoto and Fugaku aren't exactly perfect. She exhaled softly and turned her attention back to the street, where Naruto was still giggling on the ground, arms wrapped around his stomach.
Raven stepped over and nudged his leg lightly with the side of her foot. "Get up, Naruto. It's not that funny to talk about Sasuke like that." Sasuke straightened up with a sniff of his runny nose, brushing dust from his sleeve. "Thank you for standing up for me," he muttered, still a little pouty. "Don't mention it," Raven said.
Ino bounced up beside Mikoto, her eyes bright with excitement and admiration. "You're so beautiful and elegant, Mrs. Uchiha. Can I call you Big Sister Mikoto?" Mikoto's expression melted into warmth, and she laughed. "Of course you can." Her eyes sparkled as she added, "If I'm going to hang out with you, I'll treat everyone. I'm rich, after all." Raven's face lit up with interest. "You're rich?" Mikoto gave her a teasing look. "That look reminds me of an old friend of mine. Of course I'm rich. I always used to treat my old girlfriend to food, movies, and all sorts of fun."
Raven smiled, but her thoughts moved inward. Back when I was Kushina, Mikoto used to do the same — treat me to ramen at Ichiraku, to theaters movies, to things in little shops around Konoha. She always insisted on paying because she could afford it. Her husband Fugaku was well-off, while Minato was broke and always tangled in the Third Hokage's and Danzo's schemes. They used him, drained him, and he never noticed until it was too late. Her gaze settled on Naruto, whose hands were still a little dirty from the street. Minato was brilliant but gullible. I can't let Naruto become like that — too trusting, too kind for a world filled with manipulators and con men. He's kind of dumb… but he's an adorably smart-kind of dumb. The best kind of son a woman could want. I'll educate him well — as his new "friend." I'll make sure no one ever exploits him the way others did to us.
"So, you used to have a friend you treated to all kinds of food and movies, huh?" Raven said aloud. "Of course," Mikoto replied. "It's one of my favorite pastimes. I still spoil Sasuke whenever I can." Sasuke shot her a sharp glance. "Then why didn't you buy me that ninja scroll?" Mikoto sighed, exasperated. "You're only three years old. What do you need advanced Fire Jutsu for?" Raven tilted her head. "Have you started your clan's fire training yet, Sasuke?" "I may have," he said, trying to sound aloof. "I maybe haven't." Mikoto rolled her eyes. "Of course you haven't. You're three. Calm down." Sasuke flushed. "Mom, don't embarrass me in front of Naruto!" "I can't believe your mom embarrasses you in public like that!" Naruto laughed.
Sasuke turned away, sulking, and Naruto's laughter softened. He rubbed at his eyes. "Man… I wish I had a mom right now to see this." Mikoto's smile faded into something gentler. She knelt down beside him, resting a hand on his shoulder. "Don't worry, Naruto. From now on, I'll help look after you too." Naruto looked up at her curiously. "You're Sasuke's mom, right? I don't know if I've ever met you before." "You may not have," Mikoto said, "but I've been keeping an eye on you from a distance for years." Naruto's face lit up with something close to wonder. "You seem like such a gentle big sister." Mikoto chuckled. "Big sister, huh? I'll take that."
