Chapter 6 - MARRIAGE PROPOSAL

A whole week has passed since the cheating incident and Joanne had become a full time resident in my home. The home that used to be my safe space, now felt like a prison cell.

I couldn't step out without seven guards watching my every move waiting for my escape. Though I had refused to brith any child for Paul and decided to die single.

I would rather die than sleep with my child. I couldn't put a child through that trauma.

I could easily report the Ravens family to the police, but people would only call me crazy. On the outside, they looked like a normal powerful family, but the inside felt like a little cult organization for the wealthy.

I wondered if this was how every wealthy family lived. Did they have their rules too? Was it as bad as the Ravens?

Hi, I'm Veronica Douglas, a poor girl who have spent years gathering certificate with no job but is still struggling because I have lots and lots of bills to chest all alone.

I have my two siblings to feed, my greedy mother who has never worked a day in her life, and my father who is in the hospital for a heart disease.

And now, because of money, I'm in deeper trouble.

A wrong marriage and my doom...

I could easily think of suicide, but that wasn't an option in the Ravens household. They were watching my every move and since I've refused to birth Paul's child, I've been shamed by every family member and threatened.

"Gifts from master Paul again." Our butler, Christopher announced but I ignored the bags and shoes of my weekly customized designer clothes and accessories Paul always gifts me. I didn't need the larvish lifestyle anymore. All I wanted was an escape from this mess.

The loophole to just varnish and never return.

"Keep them with the others." I ordered.

"Keep what with what others?" A familiar voice sounded from the door and I instinctively turned to look at her. My younger sister Emily had arrived.

"You have new clothes and you didn't inform me? How can you be this heartless sister?" She rushed towards Christopher snatching the bags from him.

I wouldn't call Emily greedy. Every younger sister takes from the older one. But Emily… she was my gold digger. My cute little gold digger. The one who snatched my diamonds, slipped into my designer dresses, strutted around in my bags and shoes like they were hers.

She was my stylist, my fashionista. From the time she was small, Emily loved looking beautiful. So really, I wasn't surprised at how far she'd come.

"Huh? The newest Jimmy Choo? The one that hasn't even hit the runway yet?" She spun toward me, eyes wide and shining with tears.

"How can you play around with these sister. Do you know what it would do for me?" She asked.

"If you want it, you can have them." Her green eyes moistened even more and she ran towards me. If only she knew the sacrifice I'm paying for her to have all of these.

I had no idea who to tell or run to. Will they forgive me if I run away?

"You're the best sister."

"It's nothing." I smiled.

"Uncle Paul loves you very much Nica. Look at all the nice things he does for you. I wish I find someone like him." She wiped her tears.

"I'm so jealous of you." Her words broke me again and tears fell from my eyes. My heart felt so heavy, yet I couldn't say a word to her.

"Ehh, why are you crying Nica? I should be the one crying and not you."

"You wouldn't understand." I whispered and just immediately, a maid passed by. I knew she was here to eavesdrop on our conversation.

"Understand what? That you love Paul so much?" Nica asked but I shook my head.

I wondered if she would understand. Didn't she notice my black eyes and swollen face from the endless cries all week. Can she not see how tiny I have gotten from starving myself hoping to die one day?

But then again, Nica wasn't one that cared about others unless you tell her what you're really going through.

"Paul really loves me." I muttered when Joanne walked in.

"Of course he does, you're just one lucky daughter in law." Joanne interupted and Emily rose from where she sat.

"Good day ma'am." She muttered hissing, "Why didn't you tell me she was here quietly" I wiped my tears and sat up.

"Such a beautiful girl." Joanne smiled.

"My son Ruben is ready for marriage though only two years younger than you are. If you're open, he'll be willing..."

"No!" I yelled
