Chen Xi frowned and headed toward a particularly dilapidated house.
He could sense a faint presence of life, though it was extremely weak.
With a gentle push, the door opened.
Suddenly, there was a commotion inside—they seemed startled by him.
Chen Xi saw a simple arrangement of wooden boards, and a woman clutching a child, eyes wide with fear.
"Sorry, I don't mean to disturb you. I just want to ask a question."
The woman and child looked at him with unfamiliar eyes—they clearly didn't know him.
"Who are you? What question do you want to ask?"
The woman didn't chase him away. Judging from his appearance, she didn't understand why a seemingly wealthy man would appear here—but like someone glimpsing hope from despair, she wanted to cling to it.
If she could move, she might have already crawled to his feet.
"If I answer your question, could I get a little water and food? We haven't eaten or drunk for a long time."
Chen Xi was silent for a moment, then a bottle of mineral water and two pieces of bread appeared in his hands.
The woman was astonished and grateful. "Thank you… really, thank you."
She released her child, weakly moving toward Chen Xi.
Seeing her struggle, Chen Xi stepped forward and placed the food and water in their hands.
The woman and child devoured it hungrily.
It had been a long time since they had eaten something this good.
Chen Xi watched silently, but in his mind, he kept thinking of the doctor's words.
Perhaps he had truly overlooked a lot.
He had always thought himself incredibly strong, seeing only those powerful enough to matter, ignoring those weaker, struggling to survive underground.
