Chapter Two: My First Steps into the World
Thanks to my perseverance, I began absorbing external energy and continuously transferring part of it to the other egg, which kept absorbing every bit of energy I sent without pause.
Two years had passed.
I don't know exactly how much time had gone by, but I was on the verge of hatching. During this period, my progress never stopped—not only in physical growth, but also in understanding the world around me and comprehending myself.
The first thing I must admit is that I probably am no longer human, as I already feel an immense power in using all four of my limbs, and at the same time, I possess massive claws.
Perhaps I'm trapped inside an egg, because my new mother's womb is unlikely to be strong enough to withstand even a fraction of my claws… let's assume so. To my great astonishment, I discovered that I was indeed inside an egg, fully covered in scales, and armed with razor-sharp claws.
On my back, I could feel two more limbs that I couldn't even control yet, not to mention my tail, which seemed to have a life of its own, moving independently.
Well… the internal energy clearly felt like dragon energy, because I couldn't believe there were only three beings here—me, the egg, and my mother. This alone rules out at least half of the known worlds that I can access.
How did I discover my mother's presence? That happened some time ago. I sent my spiritual energy to the neighboring egg when I decided to make contact, and suddenly the thought occurred to me: why not try directing my energy in other directions, taking advantage of what's called spiritual instinct? At first, nothing came out, and my energy simply dissipated.
Then I began guiding it in small threads, immediately pulling it back. After a few days, perhaps, I managed to "see" fifteen meters around my egg, which I was able to confirm. I even noticed part of my supposed mother's body, because recognizing a massive claw over five meters long, along with a spiritual flame far brighter than mine, wasn't difficult.
After that, I stopped developing my spiritual instinct, because I didn't want to disturb my mother.
Yet, my spiritual flame didn't stop growing. If its diameter had been a few meters before, it had now expanded to six meters.
The other egg was also at the peak of its growth. Though its size was roughly half of mine, its appearance seemed more harmonious and serene. I was covered in large scales, forming a kind of armor around my body; had I not touched them dozens of times, I would have thought I was mostly made of ice. The other egg, meanwhile, was covered in small white and blue scales, appearing as if it were a hybrid between an Ice Dragon and a Water Dragon.
(In Third-Person Perspective)
In that deep cave, where no sound had been heard for two and a half years except the howling of the wind, a sudden soft crack echoed through the silence.
The dragon, who had been vigilantly guarding the nest, opened its eyes as it sensed that the hatching time was drawing near.
Recently, the mother had noticed slight movements in the nest. She couldn't fully understand what was happening, but she felt that the small white-and-blue egg, once weak and teetering on the brink of death, was now vibrant with life, no longer on the edge of extinction.
This was tremendous news for the mother who had just given birth, as the process of raising dragons was incredibly slow, and this was her first hatching in 90,000 years.
Meanwhile, the large egg continued to crack, and its owner, driven by immense determination, struggled to free itself. Within minutes, the egg, which had seemed solid at first, was now covered in cracks, as if preparing to reveal a new, life-filled being.
(In First-Person Perspective)
Finally, my body began to respond better. Although my wings still didn't obey me completely, they no longer trembled on their own when I tried moving my other limbs—except for my tail.
It seemed that I had fully formed, and there was almost no nutrient material left in the egg.
I began trying to break the shell, striking the same spot repeatedly.
After a few minutes, cracks spread across the egg, allowing me to see through…
But I couldn't see clearly, either because night had fallen or because we were in a dark cave. My final strike shattered the shell, and I emerged immediately.
As I had expected, I found myself in a massive cave, with the only light coming from a wide opening, probably leading to the surface.
I shouted as I emerged from the egg, crying out the name "Ice Dragon."
As I began to explore, I immediately noticed a blue-striped egg, now fully formed. It seemed to me that it would hatch soon.
When I turned to the other side, I came face to face with a massive ice dragon. Its appearance was breathtaking: over twenty meters long, with large white scales, broad wings, and a long tail. The sight of it was truly stunning.
Well… my mother in this new life isn't just an amazing being—she's a dragon.
And when I looked at her, she was staring directly at me.
Under her warm and joyful gaze, I began to limp, still unable to walk properly.
I stumbled with every step, but after a few strides, my wings started moving automatically. Suddenly, my mother nudged me toward the broken shell.
She approached me with her head, picked up a small piece of the shell with her tongue, and swallowed it, keeping her eyes fixed on me.
I understood what she wanted from me and remembered the stories I had read about newly hatched dragons, where they eat the shells of their eggs.
I grabbed a small piece of the shell with my claws, examined it carefully, and then licked it.
Fortunately, my jaws responded well, and within a few seconds, I swallowed it… though it tasted like cold ice.
As I continued to eat the remaining pieces of the eggshell, I noticed that my mother had moved to another part of the cave. Once I finished eating, I began carefully peeling off the rest of the shell, ready to discover the power within my new body.
Half an hour later, as I finished the last piece of the egg, I saw my mother returning, carrying the corpse of a strange creature I didn't recognize. She approached me, dropped it, and began devouring it without hesitation.
I decided not to interfere and started examining my new body.
Well… my body looked like a small ice sculpture. Even my wings appeared frosty, with large white scales covering all my joints, while the rest of my body was covered in smaller but sturdy, strong scales.
My head wasn't fully clear to me yet, but my spiritual intuition helped me sense my features. Overall, the appearance was stunning: four large horns branching from the back of my head into ridges along my neck, a large horn on my forehead, small fangs, and shining blue eyes completing the look.
After accepting my appearance, I decided to start trying to control my wings and tail.
I began training, which lasted ten days, during which I ran around the cave and tested my claws. But there was one frustrating thing: I ended up scratching the cave walls instead of crushing the rocks.
Even though I couldn't fully move objects yet, I was newly hatched, and I would grow over time. I began mastering the movement of my wings and preventing my tail from shaking uncontrollably.
This brought me great joy because, as a small dragon, having your tail twitch uncontrollably is extremely frustrating.
I also tried the famous dragon breath. Of course, I didn't expect fire to come out, but the cold breath that emerged on the third day was just right.
Well, it was a small success, but considering that dragons live for thousands of years in most worlds—if not forever—I still had everything ahead of me to learn and grow.
