Chapter One: Born in the Blue Darkness
I opened my eyes to find myself submerged in complete darkness. No sound pierced the silence, no movement, nothing but the void surrounding me. Fear would have been natural in such a situation, yet it did not take hold of me. Perhaps it was the composure I had trained myself to maintain, which helped me regain my calm swiftly.
I tried to look around and noticed something strange: I was not merely a lost thought in the void. My body existed… my hands… but what truly caught my attention was a small blue light, roughly the size of an apple, floating in the emptiness. It shimmered in shades between light and darkness, as if imbued with some mysterious magic, and my eyes clung to it.
"Am I… dead?"
That was the first thought that crossed my mind. I wasn't sure, but there seemed to be no other logical explanation.
"If I'm dead, how did I end up here?"
Memories flooded my mind. I was twenty-one, a third-year medical student. My life wasn't filled with noise or social interactions; I focused all my attention on studying, avoiding interaction unless absolutely necessary.
Since childhood, I had been introverted, finding solace in books and animals. I was passionate about wild and predatory creatures. I loved reading, not just because it occupied my time, but because it was my own private world. I had always imagined myself as a hero in various stories, diving into imaginary worlds where I could exercise strength and courage.
By the time I turned fifteen, I had read most of the classic novels. I was searching for something new, something different. One day, I heard my classmates discussing a mysterious and intriguing anime. The characters they described didn't interest me, but the idea of new fantasy worlds fascinated me. After a brief search, I immersed myself in watching anime and reading light novels, and these worlds became my personal refuge.
I didn't stop there. I was especially captivated by Chinese novels that focused on self-improvement and empowerment. The idea of building strength from nothing, relying solely on oneself, and working tirelessly to achieve the impossible completely fascinated me.
I decided to learn Chinese so I could read the novels in their original language. It took only six months to master it, and I began meditating twice a day. I didn't expect it to grant me supernatural powers, but the sense of mental and physical control was more than enough.
By the time I turned eighteen, I chose to study veterinary medicine due to my passion for animals, as well as human medicine to further satisfy my desire for self-growth. I had no close friends or relationships, though people often found me attractive. I was tall—190 centimeters—with long black hair tied in a ponytail, and striking blue eyes. Yet, nothing about the girls around me ever caught my interest; their superficiality and physique never appealed to me… except for one girl who did.
By my third year, boredom and inner emptiness had begun to consume me. Life felt dull, and meditation no longer had the effect it once did. On the last day of the semester, I was completely exhausted. Upon arriving home, I collapsed onto my bed and immediately lost consciousness.
And now… here I am, in this blue darkness.
I don't know how I ended up here, but something deep inside tells me that what awaits me in this place will change everything.
(From a third-person perspective)
Northernmost North
Deep within a massive snow-covered mountain, amid endless icy wastelands and fierce blizzards, lay a vast cave. Any ordinary person stepping inside would be awestruck by its sheer size—over 100 meters in height and width, stretching deep into the mountain for several kilometers.
But the cave's size wasn't the only striking feature. Scattered bones and hundreds of shattered skeletons, some tens of meters long, added an eerie sense of dread to the place.
In the depths of the cave, within a nest covered by two eggs, stood a massive icy statue. Any enlightened spirit master seeing it would flee instantly. The statue depicted an ice dragon, ninety thousand years old, rivaling the strength of the fiercest spirit beasts that had lived over a hundred thousand years, considered one of the most powerful creatures in the far north.
The dragon guarded its nest with absolute vigilance; no spirit beast, no matter its strength, would dare approach the eggs and break them. But what drew attention wasn't just the dragon—it was the two eggs as well. One was large, made of murky ice that obscured its contents, while the other was smaller, half the size of the first, pure white with blue streaks. Both were covered in identical scales, pulsating with a mysterious aura that sent shivers down the spine.
(From a first-person perspective)
When I awoke from my coma, I felt a strange suffocation, as if I were surrounded by a viscous fluid pressing against my body from all sides. Yes… I had begun a new life. And with clarity of thought, I started to regain fragments of my memories.
But from the very first moment, I noticed something unusual: I had lost the emotional aspect of my memories. I had never expressed my feelings easily, and I acted only when necessary, yet I sometimes felt them… but now, only faint traces remained.
Perhaps this was for the best. Life felt dull, colorless. My parents loved me, and I loved them, yet now… aside from a hint of sadness, I felt nothing.
After hours of searching through my memories, I discovered the harsh truth: I had lost all memories from before the age of nine. This loss, along with the missing emotional side, was a small price to pay for what remained of my strength and mind.
I decided to continue meditating, as there was nothing else to occupy me. I would remain a fetus for a while and would not be "born" soon. During my meditation, instead of the usual apple-sized blue light, I saw a massive blue beam… a new body, albeit incomplete, beginning to form around me. I hadn't expected to witness spiritual flames of such magnitude, yet they appeared clearly before me.
After a minute of meditation, I realized I was not in an ordinary world. The spiritual flames shone vividly, so I decided to intensify and expand them, confident that they would serve me well in the future.
After two days of continuous meditation, I began to sense something external, like a heavy presence surrounding me. I attempted to absorb a portion of the spiritual energy and merge it with my flame… and after several tries, I succeeded. The result was a strange physical pleasure, as if a faint electric pulse had surged through my entire body.
I couldn't stop there. I continued absorbing more external energy, channeling it into my flame. I noticed a clear change in the size of my spiritual fire… it had grown significantly, as if responding to every ounce of my newfound power.
Two Years Later
My growth had become clearly noticeable, not only in my body but also in my understanding of the world around me. Sometimes, I felt that I was no longer human, as my extraordinary abilities began to manifest in my limbs. I was no longer living in a natural environment; I was trapped inside the egg, unable to fit comfortably, my large claws challenging any confined space.
My spiritual flame had grown remarkably, surpassing even the power of the other egg. Even the small egg beside me had developed over time. Despite the vast difference in size between us, it was clear that it, too, was gradually growing stronger and larger.
The strangest thing was that I felt my mother's presence nearby. I sent my spiritual energy to her and to the other egg. As I began channeling energy to other areas, I discovered that I could see the surroundings of my egg more clearly. To my astonishment, I noticed a massive claw and a spiritual flame far greater than my own, which sparked both my curiosity and caution.
I stopped exploring my growing spiritual abilities, not wanting to disturb my mother. I preferred to immerse myself in our shared growth, observing her and the other egg, feeling a deep connection between us, as if we were growing together in the silent stillness of this mysterious place.
