Chapter 26 - A familiar face

[Pink Diamond(Mc) POV.]

(Unknown amount of time later.)

'Where am I?'

That has been a question floating in my mind for a while now. It was strange, yet peaceful.

The last thing she remembered was getting angry at something. something that had to do with Lion? She wasn't sure.

She was asleep, or at least she believes she is. She tried to force herself awake a few times, but to no avail, not that she tried that hard to begin with.

It was simply so nice not having to think about anything. she really did miss sleeping. the embrace of sleep was simply a different kind of paradise. in fact, it was only now that she was able to start thinking again.

'Maybe I should wake up? Do I have to?'

Pink felt her thoughts grow more foggy and fractured. 'Lion should be fine. He is a big boy, he can handle himself.'

(Some more amount of time later.)

"How long are you going to make me wait, Pink?" A commanding, yet annoyed voice cut through Pink's sleep, as she opened her eyes finding herself in a strange, yet familiar room made of yellow crystals.

Pink mind struggled to understand, as she finally registered a beautiful melody being played in the background. not that it mattered, because her attention was all on the figure sitting on a huge throne of yellow colored crystals.

"At last. Finally decide to stop wasting time, Pink?" The huge figure said with a bored tone, as she raised an eyebrow at her.

Pink simply stared dumbfounded, as she stood up, looking up to meet the eyes of a figure she was unfamiliar with yet she knew her very well.

'Yellow Diamond.'

Yellow Diamond was sitting with her head resting on one of her hands, her other hand resting on the throne and tapping it with her index finger, slightly impatient.

Yellow Diamond radiated pride. Not the kind of pride born from self-indulgence or arrogance, no. it was the kind of pride born from time, from leadership, a pure mix of confidence and conviction.

Her yellow coloured diamond eyes that normally held impatience and pride were slightly softened. If anyone, or anything, made Yellow diamond wait this long for a nap, they would have never seen the light of another day.

Time was one of the most valuable things that Yellow Diamond believed in. after all, she had an empire to manage, fleets to order, colonies to manage, and incompetence to be extracted from the perfect machine that was the gem empire.

Yellow simply never wasted time, and she always grew angry at anyone wasting her precious time that could be better spent.

But. Strangely enough, Yellow didn't shout, didn't turn angry. she didn't even talk again while Pink stared for a long while.

She simply waited. impatiently? Yes, but she waited. Even Blue would not have gotten this far in wasting Yellow's time before she started getting angry.

After all, they always had more time to talk. After all, no matter how much time passed for a diamond, there will always be a second time to meet. after all, time was a concept at best, never a real concern. Right? Yellow's gaze turned dangerous for a few seconds before she forced it down.

Or it should have been the case, but for reasons unknown, Yellow seemed content to wait for Pink.

She didn't work while keeping a single ear open for Pink. she didn't ask Pearl to escort Pink outside until she was in a better state to talk, no. she simply waited. The most busy figure in the empire didn't even glance at her so-called responsibility.

Yellow was willing to wait for their youngest.

After a few minutes passed, and Yellow deemed Pink calm enough, she glanced to the side at her own pearl, saying, "Pearl, that would be all. You can stop." Pink snapped her head to the side, seeing a short yellow gem that stopped singing, as she bowed with perfect posture while retreating slowly.

"Yes my diamond."

Pink gave another look at the place, placing memories together.

'Yellow ship. this is Yellow ship. Am I in a memory again?'

Pink snapped from her thoughts, as a huge yellow-gloved palm opened near her. she stared at the opened palm for a while, before slowly, she climbed on it.

Yellow lifted her palm up, until it was close to her face, while looking at Pink closely for a long minute.

Something in Yellow's gaze softened from pure boredom and annoyance to slight nostalgia, as she gazed at pink, seemingly buried in her own thoughts, before closing her eyes once, and her gaze returned to normal.

"Pink, I am very disappointed in your performance. care to guess why?" Yellow asked with furrowed brows, simply waiting for an answer.

Pink gave her memories a quick check, and realized that well. Pink has disappointed Yellow on many occasions. so many, in fact, that she gave up on guessing which one of them this is.

Pink looked up with an awkward smile, saying. "I am not sure, Yellow."

Yellow simply sighed, rubbing her forehead as if expecting a headache, before looking at Pink sternly.

"Pink. Tell me what the injectors do?" Yellow asked with the patience of someone preparing for a stupid conversation with a child.

"Uhh. It injects Diamond essence, and gives the necessary information to newly formed gems."

Yellow nodded slowly, saying. "A rather very short answer, and lacking in details, but yes, you are rather barely correct. Pink, the injectors were made because Diamond essence is a valuable resource."

Pink crossed her arms, while her face unconsciously pouting, saying. "I know that."

"Yes you do, but you don't seem to understand what that actually means! Do you realise how annoying it is to see your lack of efficiency?!" Yellow was rubbing her head with annoyance while questioning her life choices.

Pink wanted to ask a question, but Yellow cut her off, saying. "The Injectors were made because diamond essence can only be made by us, which means four diamonds needed to produce enough for thousands of colonies."

At that, Yellow stood up, walking while placing Pink on her shoulder, as she marched with heavy, gigantic steps, as the huge door opened, showing a passageway made from yellow crystals as well.

"Which is why the injectors were needed, Pink. The injector controls how much exactly each gem needs from diamond essence to form with the perfect standards. there are some failures, but that's a small price for the maintenance of all the colonies." Yellow tone was bored, as if she was reading information from a book.

"Now, Pink. Why do some gems form with imperfections? Why do some gems take more time while others take less time, yet end with the same outcome? And finally, why are some gems more perfect than others?"

As the second crystal door opened, leading to a huge wall of transparent crystals serving as a window that showed a strange dead planet with many ships surrounding it in space, as Yellow seemed content to wait for an answer.

Pink's mind raced for a second, before looking at Yellow, saying, "Diamond essence?"

Yellow gave her a small glance, before turning her head back to the planet, as she said, "Yes. Some gems absorb more diamond essence than other gems, not because of the injectors or any failure in our methods, mind you, but because it is in the nature of gems in that state to absorb as much as possible."

She moved her hand, gesturing to the planet, saying. "A gem absorbs too much, and it ends up taking the amount for those around it, which would result in a nearly perfect gem, while the gems that had their share taken would be wrong coloured, too small, or too big. simply, flawed."

"Diamond essence controls two things, Pink." Yellow said, raising two fists and gesturing to one of them, saying. "First and foremost is quality. as long as the resources with the planet itself are sufficient, any gem that absorbed enough diamond essence would almost always grow perfectly."

She moved her other fists, saying. "Time. A gem has limits. once it absorbs too much diamond essence, any more would only make the gem absorb nutrients from the environment faster."

Yellow turned her head to the wide-eyed looking Pink, saying. "It's very wasteful to use that much of diamond essence for a small number of gems, but. considering your situation, I would allow it."

"Does that mean?" Pink said, while unconsciously doing small jumps of excitement on Yellow's shoulder.

Yellow, who glanced at Pink happily jumping on her shoulder, couldn't stop a small smile from forming.

"Yes, Pink, it means as long as an adequate amount of diamond essence is provided. A gem growth time would be reduced from centuries to theoretically. months, even less."

Yellow eyes turned stern, as her voice turned slightly stern again. "So get yourself some gems, and start a foundation for your court! It's rather embarrassing that a diamond has to work doing such mundane tasks! although it is very wasteful to make gems in such a method, but at least those gems will be of enough quality to form a good court foundation."

"A very small one, but at least it's a positive point."

A heavy, yet comfortable silence settled, as both turned to look at the planet.

"Yellow. Is this a memory?"

All she got in answer was a snort with a dismissive answer. "Be grateful that Blue convinced White to let me help, Pink. since White wanted you to figure it out on your own."

Seeing Yellow not elaborating further, she knew she would not get another word out of her. Yellow was always firmer in her choices, and Pink doubted she could force any answer out of her.

Pink had many questions, but she was sure of one thing. The original Pink Diamond. Had no such memory.

"You need to get your tantrums in check, Pink. This time you made a real mess for yourself."

Pink looked at Yellow, saying. "This time?"

"Oh? You don't remember? it seems your tantrums have gotten worse than I thought. That would be troublesome."

Yellow looked at the now slowly panicking Pink, as with a sigh, she picked her up and brought her other hand covered in small yellow-like energy, as she said, "Blue will complain for centuries if I don't help a little, so I will give you the important parts."

"If you can remember the rest or not is not my concern. after all, it's about time to learn that your tantrums have consequences. especially since you are currently alone now, Pink."

Yellow's last words came out more somber than she intended, while her hand came in contact with Pink lightform.

[Pink diamond (Mc)POV.]

Many images flashed through her. she couldn't make most of them, but then. And in a flash, she found herself. awake?

She looked around, heaving for breaths, not because she needed it, but from the chaos and overwhelming situation of it all.

Pink was kneeling on the ground, and she was in a rather Terrible condition, her light form covered in countless cracks spreading across it, even reaching her face.

Her panic only grew, as she looked to see one of her arms shattered and destroyed, while the other one, although covered in cracks, held firm with her shield attached to it.

ʼDid I overuse my devil fruit? there is simply no way the Joker forced me to do that. right? ʼ

With an increasing sense of dread, Pink pushed herself up on shaking legs, as the cracks spread slightly more, as she looked around.

'Chaos'. the landscape around her felt as if someone flipped the ground on itself repeatedly. some pieces of earth were higher, forming small hills, and some were lower. it was simply chaotic.

She turned her head slowly, as she froze, her Diamond flashing repeatedly as she tried to understand what she was seeing.

A very iconic ring was thrown on the ground, glowing slightly with a finger near it. all the while flickering slowly with fading green light.

As she turned her head to see Green Lantern, or now simply Hal Jordan, laying on the ground. both of his arms tilted to very sickening angles, with one of his hands missing many of its fingers.

'Did I? there's no way. right?'

She looked around more with increasing panic, as she froze completely.

Tornado, the red robot, was crushed beneath a huge rock, removing his lower body completely.

He wasn't dead, but he needed fixing.

Pink looked around, seeing many more corpses. thankfully, she didn't recognize them, but her cracked light form moved slowly with unsteady steps to Hal Jordan's body, which was barely breathing, but looking paler by the second, as she finally noticed his caved in abdoman.

"NO NO NO NO. Hey Green Lantern, this isn't funny! Look, I think I messed up. I messed up big time. just let me fix you, okay? This will be alright."

Before Pink could take another step, she felt something block the sun, as she looked up, seeing Wonder Woman flying a few meters high in the sky. she was covered in wounds, the most obvious being the huge stab in her stomach, and her lower jaw was completely ripped off.

What drew Pink's attention was the look in Wonder Woman's eyes. it wasn't the amusement or slight fondness she had in any of the previous interaction. it was anger. no, it was resentment. pure resentment.

The next second, she felt the wind change slightly, and when she looked down, she saw the flash in front of her, his hand vibrating as it was plunged into her chest, holding her diamond.

"Sorry Pink. but I have to do this." Flash's determined look showed small hesitation when his eyes met Pink's now terrified and panicking eyes.

But he forced his hand free from her chest, pulling a glowing Pink Diamond, as Pink lightform eyes became empty before poofing away.

Pink snapped awake to see herself in Yellow palm, in the same scene, as if nothing happened.

"So Pink, do you still remember my lessons about your tantrums and emotional control? because I am very disappointed."
