Chapter 2: A New Beginning
Now back to the present.
Although I'm the silent type, I somehow attract people. I'm neither handsome nor ugly, neither a genius nor dull. But I'm a fast learner. I finished college with good grades, though the road was filled with loneliness.
This year, I gained admission into university as an Industrial Chemistry student. Truth is, I'm not really that good in chemistry, but I chose it regardless. With two months left before resumption, I decided to spend the holiday at my brother's place.
Life there was cool. My brother owned a shop where he sold gadgets, and I stayed there most of the time. Customers often came, asking if I was really his brother. I answered yes, and they would greet me warmly.
Then came her.
Her name was Faith. She was tall, about 5'11, probably twenty years old, and already in her 200 level studying English. You could tell at a glance she was the busy type.
She walked in saying she wanted to buy a charger for her friend.
"It's $18," I told her.
She smirked. "I'll pay $15."
I shook my head. "No, I can only sell it for $17. Last price."
Then she leaned closer and said my brother always sold it to her at that price. But I didn't budge. My voice was cold, calm, and respectful.
Her eyes narrowed. Anger flashed across her face. She turned, muttering, and walked out without buying it.
But guess who came back the next day?
