Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 Growing up

Inside a brightly lit room a boy with lustrous deep black hair that swayed against the wind and silvery grey eyes could be seen standing next to the window and looking out across the vast green backyard of the mansion he was currently in.

It has been seven years since Oliver was born into this new world which surprisingly he later came to learn was similarly called Earth. During the past seven years he came to learn a little bit about the history of his new world and why the inhabitants were able to wield the power called mana. Almost three centuries ago the earthlings came to know about the existence of other civilizations living outside their galaxy, some of this civilizations included the classic elves, dwarves, druids and yes you guessed it, dragons, among other advanced civilizations.

The emergence of this other species brought about the discovery of mana which Earth was apparently rich in, but the earthlings had not discovered it yet.

Everything was going great as the other civilizations established friendly relations with earthlings with some of them even settling down there, but everything changed about a century ago when a bloodthirsty civilization better known as demons set out on a conquest of other planets after the birth of the strongest demon in existence.

By the time news of the demons reached earth, it was already too late as the earlier embers of invasion had already reached their galaxy.

Even the weapons the Earthlings prided themselves in were useless against the demon recon invasion waves with the first wave being the weakest. Luckily with the help of the alien civilizations settled on Earth, the Earthlings were able to learn to utilize mana in battle to repel the demon advances and that's how beings called awakened came to be and led the Earthlings at the forefront of the war.

The invasion was luckily repelled but not without suffering major losses that even the world's population faced a staggering decline. Even then not all the demons were repelled as some settled in uninhabited lands in earth, which led to the current era known as the cleansing, where awakened are actively battling and hunting demons who seem to have created a foothold on earth and keep on multiplying.

And at the forefront of this battles in the Aetherion region where Oliver currently resides in are the five great families and the allied government military. The Thorne's being one of the families together with the Drake's, Whitlock's, Walton's, and the Starlight's.

Oliver was so caught up reminiscing about the years he spent in what he came to call his new home that he didn't notice the figure that had just entered the room.

Valka, the boy's maid was drowning in a whirlwind of thoughts as she stared at the boy looking out the window. She remembered how she had looked after the boy for the past seven years and the boy had become an integral part of her life, from taking care of his daily needs to being his master in charge of training, it was clear that the boy to her was more than just a young master of the Thorne family.

She had always thought the boy acted too mature for his age, those deep grey eyes that always seemed bored, as if they had witnessed more than life had to offer, the boy rarely smiled except the few times during combat training when he managed to land an uncanny hit on her. The boy seemed to be a battle freak through and through but even then, those rare smiles were….beautiful to say the least.

"Young master, it's time for dinner, your mother is already waiting for you in the dining room." Valka dutifully delivered the message as she snapped from her not so holy thoughts.

"Ah, Valka, I'll be right down." When he heard her speaking, he was jolted out of his thoughts, his face a mixture of mild confusion and recognition. He quickly collected himself and followed her out of the room and onto the long intricately decorated hallway that led to the dining room.

The door to the dining room was gently opened by Valka which revealed a massive modern room adorned with a dazzling chandelier hanging gracefully from the ceiling, the walls were adorned with the Thorne family crest, and two crossed long swords bathed in ethereal dazzling fire that seemed to almost be alive.

At the center of the room rested a large rectangular obsidian dining table with luxurious leather seats occupying both sides of the table. At the front of the table sat a beautiful lady wearing an enchanting long purple dress with long lustrous ichor black hair tied neatly into a bun, the lady had irresistible hazel eyes that pulled in the light from the room, her pulp full pink lips accentuated her charm even further.

Even with all that beauty, the lady had a dangerous air about her, she radiated an unmistakable feeling of power that was hard to miss. Ever since Oliver was able to sense and circulate mana, he was able to get a feel for people's mana and that only led to one conclusion.

Monsters! He was surrounded by monsters, everyone in the household was an awakened, each one strong in their own right, even his maid Valka was a tier 4 awakened. But the strongest person in the entire manor he lived, the lady in front of him, Sylvia Thorne, his mother was by far the strongest.

"My cute baby!! Come give your mother a hug, I've missed you so much." Sylvia beamed in excitement the moment her son entered the room. She had been away for two weeks attending to business for the Thorne family. Business being slaying demons in the outer zones. As a tier 6 awakened she was an undeniable asset for the family.

'Hmm, he's gotten stronger.' Sylvia mused internally as she wrapped her arms across her son who was hugging her, albeit reluctantly.

"Mom, I've told you not to call me a baby, I'm already grown."….Sylvia resisted the urge to roll her eyes at her son's grumpiness while she was stretching his cheeks like a ball of cotton. 'With a face this cute how can I not call you my baby?' She thought, with sparkling eyes, like a child who finally got a toy they'd been wanting.

"Come, sit down, Tomorrow we'll be visiting the main estate, your father wants to see you." She said to him while propping up her face on her palms while resting her elbows on the table, not taking her eyes of the boy for even a second.
