"Ah shit, here we go again, damn! I thought that was the last one but the universe just had to give me a new batch of lemons, well I guess it's time to make some orange juice. "Normally you wouldn't expect to hear that horrible joke coming from a new born baby but, Oliver Thorne, as the mother Sylvia Thorne just declared his name, is not your average newborn, reason being, he just started his third life after being reborn.
The last thing he remembers before opening his eyes to being held by what he would assume to be a midwife, is being shot in the back of the head. Well who could he blame when he failed to check if the enemy soldier was dead before turning his back on a battlefield?
"Miss Sylvia his eyes!" The midwife could not believe what she was seeing, the baby cradled in her arms had almost glass like silvery grey eyes, that aside from the fact that the baby had not cried and was just staring at her. "Let me look at my baby boy,,, It doesn't matter what anyone says, your still my cute little boy " Although Sylvia was taken aback by her baby's eyes which did not resemble hers or the father's eye, she was not going to let that stop her from giving her first child all the love she could muster.
Oliver admired the maternal warmth the lady called Sylvia was showing him. "So this is this body's mother huh? At least there is no sign of me being an orphan like my previous life, judging from the décor of this place, this family must be filthy rich."
Oliver could not help but be excited about what this life had in store for him, by nature he liked to think of himself as a practical person. And what's more practical than money? In all of his previous lives he never got the chance to experience growing up in wealth. As he was busy entertaining this thoughts, the atmosphere in the room suddenly shifted with the maids and midwives going silent all of a sudden.
He did not have to think too much of the reason for the sudden shift as soon enough his supposed father came into view. "So you named him Oliver? I can see he has my black hair" Oliver could not believe what he was seeing, the man who he later came to know as Silas Thorne, his father did not spare him more than a single glance before making his way out of the room, it was like his existence was barely acknowledged by the man who had black hair and deep black eyes paired with a neatly trimmed full beard. The man exuded an air of authority and power that Oliver could not quite place his finger on.
"Don't worry about your father, he acts cold but he is quite sensitive on the inside, he'll come around soon enough." Those were the last words he heard from his new mother who looked at him with a warm smile before being handed to a maid to be taken to his crib.
"Young master, you're very lucky to be born as the fifth child of the head of the Thorne family which is one of the five great families.
" …."What!! Five great families? What in the royal medieval bullshit is this?" To say he was shocked by the maid's words would be an understatement. Keep in mind that in all his past lives he lived in the modern world where governing was government based and very few countries followed the monarch system, so all this talk about great families and whatnot was baffling to him.
The maid immediately left after making sure that Oliver was well tucked in his crib. Oliver already getting washed by drowsiness since his new body could not handle his complex emotions was ready to go to sleep, but just before he could close his eyes, the door to the room slowly swung open and an all too familiar face walked into the room.
Silas looked at his newborn youngest child with an examining look, but what caught his attention the most were the child's eyes which looked almost otherworldly. "I wonder how you would react to mana." Silas thought as he carefully put his arm on the baby's body and carefully concentrated his mana while guiding it inside Oliver's body.
A vibrant pulse energy of energy washed over the baby while exploring each and every one of his veins. Oliver despite his surprise at his father's presence could not help but be taken aback as he experienced mana for the first time.
He experienced an almost euphoric sensation as the energy moved through his body leaving a cooling sensation behind. As soon as Silas withdrew his mana, Oliver could not help but try to raise his arms in protest at the man who retrieved the unfamiliar yet comforting sensation, but the only thing that came out was inaudible sounds.
Silas stood beside the crib carefully inspecting the baby's reaction and could not help but be secretly pleased. "I have great expectations for you." Silas smiled, a rare feat, as he walked out of the room.
"Was that magic? No, he said mana. Isn't that the power I used to read in those back in the army novels?" Oliver could not help but try to recreate the feeling he had experienced earlier, he closed his eyes and tried to channel the exact feeling he'd experienced, and after several attempts of grasping at nothing he finally succeeded in recreating the sensation, and just as quickly as the feeling came, so did the tiredness as slowly fell into slumber with satisfied smile on his face.
"Rise and shine my baby." Oliver woke up on his second day in this new world to the sight of him being breastfed by Sylvia. Although the sight was uncomfortable for his mature mind to process, he quickly came to terms with his new situation since this was not his first rodeo.
Although distracted by his feeding, his mind was still back on the feeling he managed to recreate the day before, he could hardly contain his excitement and wanted to be left to his own devises by his mother who he would later come to know as clingy.
