Chapter 9 - Learned Skills and the Legend of the Slime King

In less than five minutes, three Summon Slimes had killed eight wild Slimes.

The Slime souls finally reached 100!

"Consume Slime souls x 100 to learn Devour?"

"Consume Slime souls x 100 to learn Low-level Perception?"

"Consume Slime souls x 100 to learn Acid Spray?"

"Here it comes!"

Caelan, who was currently lying in the grass, his eyes lit up, and he immediately chose to learn Acid Spray.

With a thought, 100 Slime souls were consumed.

Caelan felt as if his entire body had been struck by an electric current.

It was tingly and numb, almost reaching the peak of his life.

It was like getting a full-body massage from an 'upstairs please' establishment.

It didn't hurt; it was very refreshing and comfortable.

This process was very short, lasting only about three seconds.

When the tingling sensation disappeared, Caelan looked at his right hand.

It was as if it was naturally etched into his DNA.

He could already use Acid Spray!

However, since Acid Spray required 10 mana points, and Caelan had only recovered 2 mana points, he couldn't use the skill yet.

Patiently waiting for his mana to recover to 10 points, Caelan was eager to try out the first skill he had learned.

"You're the one!"

Caelan set his sights on a Level 2 Slime.

This Slime was less than five meters away from Caelan, and Caelan only needed to move a couple of steps to be within the three-meter range.

After crawling to the designated spot, Caelan held his right hand flat, aimed his palm at the target, and raised it slightly.

"Acid Spray! Hit it!"

As Caelan murmured, a stream of acid suddenly shot out from the palm of his right hand.

The acid landed in a parabola on the target's round body, corroding a hole in it.

Watching the target's body continuously deflate, Caelan couldn't help but smile.

"Ahaha, I finally learned a skill!"

Although Caelan himself had previously killed many Slimes with a wooden stick, this was the first monster he had killed using a monster's skill!

From the power perspective, his Acid Spray was pretty much the same as the Slime's.

The only drawback was that it consumed too much mana.

Ten mana points per shot, it was less cost-effective than Summoning a Slime.

A Summoned Level 3 Slime possessed 30 HP and 150 mana!

Race: Slime

Level: 3

Health: 30 / 30

Mana: 150 / 150

Skills: Devour, Perception, Acid Spray

This was much more cost-effective than Caelan using Acid Spray himself.

"However, the skills I learn can be used as long as I have mana. Unlike Spirit Offering, which has prerequisites when activated!"

"It's better to Summon Slimes for combat later!"

Caelan felt that him personally engaging in combat was really not as cost-effective as Summoning Slimes.

Every half an hour, when his mana recovered by ten points, Caelan would Summon a Slime to assist in combat.

Caelan couldn't Summon any more Slimes until there were five Summon Slimes present simultaneously.

Simply put, he currently only had five Summoning slots!

But even with only five Summons, these Level 3 Summon Slimes could easily hunt Level 1 and 2 Slimes.

150 mana points could support them in firing Acid Spray 15 times consecutively.

Including the time spent finding targets, they could eliminate about 60 wild Slimes in roughly twenty minutes!

However, Slimes only recovered one mana point per minute, and after exhausting their mana, they needed two and a half hours of rest to fully recover.

During the Summoned creatures' mana recovery period, Caelan would only act if a Slime was isolated; otherwise, he would just lie in the grass.

He didn't want to get injured again and waste his entire afternoon's gains.

Fortunately, the Giant Slime did not appear all afternoon.

By evening, Caelan had already collected two hundred and fourteen Slime skins!

A large area of the grassland's Slimes had been slaughtered by Caelan, making it appear much emptier now.

"Squeak!" "Squeak!"

The five Summon Slimes had exhausted their mana and were now gathered around Caelan.

"Well done!"

Caelan picked up the Slime skins from the ground, patted each Summon Slime, and then recalled them.

This was an ability Caelan had discovered that afternoon: as long as the Summoned creature hadn't died in battle, it could be stored in a space similar to a Summoned creature's dimension.

Caelan was now preparing to return to Gruer Town, and he certainly couldn't bring a group of Slimes back with him, so he naturally put them away.

"I already have 214 Slime souls?"

Caelan looked at his soul reserves, having consumed 100 Slime souls to also learn the Slime's Low-level Perception skill.

At this moment, Caelan's stats panel changed once again.

Name: Caelan.

Race: Human

Level: 3

Experience: 281 / 300

Profession: None

Mana: 30 / 30

Skills: Low-level Perception, Acid Spray

Talent: Spirit Offering

Slime souls x 114

At Caelan's current level, killing a Level 1 Slime only yielded 1 experience point, and a Level 2 Slime yielded 2 experience points.

Although Level 3 Slimes could yield 5 experience points and were easy to kill, the key was that Level 3 Slimes were rare on the grassland, and Caelan didn't encounter many all afternoon.

Despite killing many Slimes that afternoon, his level still hadn't broken through to Level 4!

Having learned the new skill, Caelan immediately tried it out.

However, the Slime's passive skill became an active skill after Caelan learned it.

"Low-level Perception, activate!"

Closing his eyes, an invisible mana spread out from him as its center.

The surrounding environment immediately appeared in Caelan's mind.

Grass, stones, crawling insects, all appeared in grayscale.

It was the same scene Caelan had 'seen' when he had previously taken control of Slime No. 1's body.

The only regrettable thing was that the range was only three meters in radius!

"Damn it, at such a close distance, do I even need Perception?"

Caelan was a little annoyed.

But on second thought, how strong could the skills of a monster like a Slime be?

However, the consumption of Low-level Perception was not large; 1 drop of mana could sustain it for ten seconds.

"Only 19 more experience points, and I can reach Level 4 by tomorrow morning."

Caelan carried a thick stack of Slime skins and walked towards Gruer Town.

He skillfully arrived at the blacksmith shop, left 5 Slime skins, and sold the remaining 209 to Old John.

Old John's eyes almost popped out when he saw so many Slime skins.

He had thought that what Caelan had gathered that morning was already his limit.

He didn't expect it to double in the afternoon!

Moreover, when Caelan came in the morning, his arm was clearly hit by Slime acid and injured.

But in the afternoon, he hadn't sustained any injuries.

"What a little monster, did I misjudge him? Is this kid actually a Professional? But his body doesn't look like a trained Professional!"

Old John mumbled as he took out 2 silver coins and 9 copper coins for Caelan.

"Kid, I still need to remind you."

Just as Caelan was about to leave, Old John suddenly spoke: "There's a Slime King deep in the grassland! That fellow, even low-level Professionals are in danger of losing their lives if they encounter it. If you meet it, remember to run for your life!"

"Slime King?" Caelan thought Old John was talking about the Giant Slime he had encountered that morning, and quickly asked, "Have Professionals fought the Slime King before?"

Old John was silent for a moment before slowly nodding and saying, "Two years ago, Slimes became a plague, destroying many crops, and Slimes often appeared on the roads.

The residents of the town pooled money to ask the mayor to commission a Mercenary Corps from Valkam to deal with the Slimes.

This Mercenary Corps thought Slimes posed no threat, so they sent a Level 5 warrior to handle it.

The first two days went smoothly, but later the Slime King appeared, and that Level 5 warrior was no match and was later eaten by the Slime King!"
