Chapter 1 - The minor villain

*Slap*

Every single person inside the hall was staring at the person who got slapped.

The same goes for me.

Holding the glass of a sugar free beverage, I looked at the person who had a glaring mark on his face.

"You..!! How dare you touch me!" The girl who slapped him, cried in a tone that reached every corner of the hall. Her face was red with anger and her chest heaving.

I glanced at the teachers. This was an annual celebration so naturally, the Professors were present here as well, and they heard the sound of the slap as well.

But none of them moved. I caught one of them smirking and enjoying the show while having his wine.

No surprise there.

More than half of the students were enjoying the show and the rest were looking at the blond boy, who got slapped, with contempt.

After all, this wasn't the first time he misbehaved.

And this was not the first time, he was getting humiliated.

She further added, "Don't you understand, why I broke up with you? Your presence annoys me, your voice irritates me, and your touch makes my skin crawl. You are nothing but a disgusting piece of trash who should have died long ago!"

Many gasped at those words but none stepped forward to stop her.

Ah, yeah, except for one.

The one and only, Kevin.

"It's okay now, Lizzy." He spoke fondly, holding her hand to calm her down, "He is not worth your anger."

Wow...he remained silent when she was getting touched. He had the chance to prevent this situation from arising.

Lizzy, or Lizel, shook her head, "No, Kevin. You always tell me to back off but this time he has gotten too far! Trying to touch me inappropriately! Did your mother ever teach you anything?"

For a moment, I saw the blond boy's jaw tighten and fists clench.

Oh, was he going to fight-ah, no.

Soon, his jaw relaxed, and with a grin, he said, "What? Don't pretend you didn't like it. We all know how greedy you are for a man's touch."

Any woman would get furious at those words, but I was getting curious.

What was the subtle change I noticed? Does this minor villain feel something and do something? Or was I reading too much into it?

"You...!" Lizel's aura flared and just when the instructors got up—suddenly realizing their duties—Lizel didn't attack him, but rather picked a pastry from nearby and,

*SMACK*

"Ouuu..." Someone cried from the crowd, clearly amused.

The boy's face was smeared with cake, the few bits falling on his shoes.

He finally showed anger, "Y-You dumb bitc-"

"That's enough, William." Kevin stepped forward, and before William could reach Lizel, the former pressed his hand against William's chest.

The blond one huffed and stomped on the ground before turning away, "I won't forget this insult!" He shouted before making his way out.

I heard the people saying as he passed, "How many times has he made a fool out of himself?"

Seven times since orientation.

"Man, why do the instructors even tolerate him?"

Well, his father, Count Delimore, is one of the lead funders of the academy.

"Why doesn't he just stop pursuing Lizel?"

They are childhood friends who got engaged and then Lizel broke up with him for Kevin...

"I wish he would just die one day."

He will, soon.

No, it wasn't that I was targeting him or something. I hold no grudge against him at all. He has said a few things to me but never did anything worth making me kill him.

Why do I know that he is going to die?

Well, I am not from this world. But I know about this world.

"Emma," while I was looking at William, Kevin approached me from the side.

My brows elevated, "Hmm?" I asked.

"He didn't do anything to you, right?"

I sighed, "No...and as I said, stop worrying about me. I am capable enough to protect myself." I told him that for the third time.

Kevin's shoulders slumped, his eyes drawing downward as he said, "I know and I am sorry...it's just, I worry about you. That guy is...he is a greedy, perverted bastard."

Oh, yeah? So what are you? Despite having three females waiting for you, you are here worrying about me.

I could feel their gaze on me, the gaze of jealousy.

This was irritating.

"Enjoy the party, I am going back," I told him, and was about to leave, when suddenly he asked,

"You aren't staying for the dance?"

I sighed...well, of course he hoped to have a dance with me.

However, "The last time I danced with someone, he ended up with a fractured toe. So I would rather refrain." I told him with a small smile before taking my leave.

I was in a kind of rush.

I have always been curious about what these minor villains do after being defeated and humiliated.

Do they just start plotting another plan right away or maybe find another target?

William was quite an interesting subject for me. I have been noticing his activities for some time now and I can tell that he was rather a strange creature.

In the instances he was mentioned in the novel I read, he mostly insulted the main characters and later got beaten up by them.

But now that I am living in this world, I have noticed that unless he is against the main characters...he acts fairly normally.

And I noted that he avoids me at all costs unless I am with Kevin so he could throw a few insults at me.

I tried to approach him a few times but he always makes lame excuses and escapes.

That has gotten me interested in him.

"Hey, Andy," I called out to the boy who used to hang out with William.

Seeing me, he became flustered, "L-Lady Emma?"

"Did you see William?"

Initially, Andy and Carter were William's two lackeys. But recently, they have stopped wandering around him.

Hearing my words, Andy said, "Y-Yeah...he was heading towards the garden. But what happened? Did he do-ah?"

I didn't wait to hear him further.

Lifting my gown, I raced towards the garden...only to meet with a sight, I was not expecting at all.
