Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 Laxus

"Hey, brat."

The table in front of Silas Frost was suddenly knocked. He looked up and met the arrogant face of Laxus Dreyar.

"You've been getting pretty full of yourself lately. You itching for a fight? Why don't you try me?" Laxus's sharp gaze bored into Silas, his intent crystal clear.

"No fight." Silas rejected him flatly.

"That's not your decision to make!" Laxus sneered. Lightning crackled from his hand, bolts lashing outward as they streaked toward Silas.

"Laxus!"

Before Silas could move, Makarov intervened. The guild master's massive hand extended, shielding Silas as it absorbed the lightning. The spell fizzled harmlessly against his palm.

Laxus glared at his grandfather. "Old man, what are you doing?"

"What am I doing?!" Makarov thundered, his voice shaking the guild. "You dare attack your own guildmates?!"

He couldn't understand. How had the clever boy he once knew turned into this?

"I'll tell you why," Laxus snarled. "Because I'm going to be the next master of Fairy Tail, old man!"

"Stand down!" Makarov barked.

"No one can stop me!" Laxus shot back coldly.

"Hey, hey… I couldn't help overhearing."

Silas rose to his feet, his eyes locking firmly onto Laxus. "I'm not interested in being guild master. But when it comes to the title of Fourth Master… that's something I won't hand over to just anyone."

"Then you want to become my enemy?" Veins bulged on Laxus's forehead as he glared, his eyes filled with cold malice.

"You can try."

Silas didn't flinch. Their gazes clashed, sparks practically crackling in the air between them.

"You two enough!"

Makarov pressed both of them down with one hand each, his voice full of exasperation. "We've got a new member joining today. What kind of impression are you trying to make? I'm not dead yet!"

Both Silas and Laxus reluctantly eased back, but their glares lingered.

It was clear to everyone.

This grudge between them was only just beginning.

"This brat… no manners at all."

Silas Frost, however, knew very well who Laxus was. Remembering the guild's future civil war, he made up his mind then and there: the first thing he needed to change in this world's script was to erase that conflict.

And as the core of that disaster… Laxus would have to be dealt with.

Ignoring Silas's inner thoughts, Makarov turned toward the wide-eyed newcomer. He gave Natsu a gentle smile.

"Are you alright? That didn't scare you, did it?"

"Amazing!" Natsu shouted with fiery excitement. "So this guild has people that strong? I'm fired up!!"

Obviously, Makarov had worried too much. Someone as straightforward as Natsu couldn't possibly be shaken by something like that.

"Guild Master, is this the new recruit?" Cana asked curiously, glancing at Natsu.

"Yes," Makarov replied. "His name is Natsu Dragneel. He wields an ancient, lost magic."

"What? A kid with such a rare magic?" the guild members gasped in surprise.

"Of course!" Natsu puffed out his chest proudly. "I use Dragon Slayer Magic. My father Igneel taught me!"

"Igneel? Who's that? Never heard of him."

"Probably just some old monster."

"Igneel is not a monster he's a dragon! A Fire Dragon!" Natsu shouted, glaring at the murmuring voices.

The guild hall fell silent. Dragon?

Everyone froze at the word. They wanted to say it was impossible, but looking at the sadness on Natsu's face, none of them could bring themselves to dismiss his words outright.

"Idiot," Laxus finally sneered. "Dragons have been gone for centuries. Where in this world would you find one?"

"There are dragons in this world."

The words came calmly, firmly from Silas Frost.

The entire guild turned in shock.

"There are dragons? You've seen them with your own eyes?" Laxus barked out a laugh, his face twisted with disbelief.

"You really shouldn't doubt me. I've actually seen one."

Silas Frost's eyes sharpened as he glared at Laxus. "But the one I saw… was a Black Dragon."

"I only caught sight of it from afar, flying across the sky. But even at that distance, its presence alone was enough to freeze my blood. That creature is terrifying."

"Black Dragon?!"

The guild erupted in murmurs. Silas spoke with such conviction that it was hard to tell whether he was bluffing or not.

Natsu, however, leaned forward, his face glowing with excitement. "You saw a dragon?! Can you take me to him?! I need to ask if he's seen Igneel!"

Silas's chest tightened. How could he explain? Acnologia wasn't someone to "ask" anything from if Natsu ever stood before that dragon now, he'd be devoured in an instant.

"Sorry," Silas said at last, shaking his head. "I only glimpsed him from afar. Where he went after that… I don't know."

Natsu's face fell in disappointment.

Laxus, meanwhile, grew more irritated, the veins on his forehead bulging as he glared at Silas. "You… this guy…"

It was as if he were a barrel of gunpowder, ready to explode at the slightest spark.

Silas exhaled slowly and muttered, "You really want to fight me?"

"Of course."

Laxus clenched his fists, lightning crackling wildly around him. His voice was cold as he spat out, "If I win, you're going to stand at the guild entrance and shout 'I am the weak one' a hundred times!"

"Fine." Silas met his gaze without flinching. "But if you lose, you'll kneel and apologize to the Guild Master."

"Y-you !" Laxus's fury erupted, lightning surging around his body even more violently.

"You're infuriating!"

Silas tilted his head, voice calm but sharp. "Then get out of my way. I don't waste my time fighting you."

The provocation landed perfectly.

Laxus's temper snapped exactly as Silas had planned.

After all, Laxus was still young fiery, reckless, and unwilling to ever back down. How could someone like him possibly swallow such provocation?

"Silas… Laxus… ai…"

Makarov looked at the two boys, bristling like needles against a strand of hair, and let out a weary sigh. He didn't step in this time.

The rest of the guild, however, leaned forward with excitement.

Silas Frost and Laxus Dreyar two of the strongest among Fairy Tail's younger generation. The fact that they were actually about to clash was more than enough to grab everyone's attention.

This battle was worth watching!

By the time that thought passed through the crowd, Silas and Laxus had already stepped outside the guild hall.

Naturally, the others rushed after them, eager to see the sparks fly.

And as for the possibility that the two might go too far? No one was truly worried.

After all, Makarov's title as one of the Ten Wizard Saints wasn't empty flattery it was proof of his overwhelming strength.

With the guild master watching, what real danger could two hotheaded brats possibly stir up?
