"Am I dead?" A confused voice echoed in the dark, empty space.
"Yes, you are dead!" Another voice responded.
The first voice didn't seem surprised to hear another and replied in a very sad and tired tone: "So that's it... It's good to be dead."
"You think death is an escape?" The other voice asked again, with a tone of doubt.
"I... no hope!" This time, the first voice replied with no emotion.
"What if I gave you a chance to start over? To change your destiny?" The second voice asked with interest.
There was a short moment of silence. Then, the first voice replied: "I don't want to."
Although he regretted many of the choices he made in life, he didn't want to start over again. Reality had been too harsh with him, and he ended up with severe depression; he didn't even want to leave the house and spent his days locked inside.
His only comfort was the novels, anime, and manga he liked to read and watch, which occupied his mind and distracted him from the sadness and emptiness he felt every day.
His parents didn't help and only made things worse. Since they didn't understand his situation, they scolded him daily and spoke harsh words to him.
After living until the age of thirty with depression, he decided to end his life.
"What if I sent you to a different world? With a new body and a new identity?" The second voice seemed eager to persuade him.
There was another moment of silence, and this time it was a very long one. Just as the second voice was about to speak again, the first voice replied: "Can I really choose the world, my appearance, and name? Will I get a golden finger like the protagonists in those novels I used to read?"
The first voice sighed helplessly and replied: "Of course! Normally, I'm responsible for eliminating the regrets of a resentful soul by giving it the chance to reincarnate in another world or relive its life."
"But today, I'll open a backdoor and grant you that so-called golden finger. So, do you have something in mind? Tell me everything, and let's settle this once and for all!"
Hearing the second voice's response, the first voice thought for a long time before sharing his requests.
Since the last show he watched was Avatar: The Legend of Korra, the first voice chose to reincarnate in that world.
He would be the same age as Avatar Korra and the adopted son of the Sato family; his name would be Akira Sato. His appearance would be identical to Satoru Gojo.
He chose to live with his memories sealed until the age of 15. As for his golden finger, he asked for a system of infinite systems.
The mechanics of this system are that Akira can unlock a new system every month, permanently.
He is the administrator of the system; as long as he doesn't like the unlocked system, he can deactivate it and reactivate it whenever he wants.
After finalizing the details, Akira waited for the mysterious voice's response. It's not that he didn't want to see the other party — he couldn't, because he was just a consciousness wandering through an unknown place.
"Alright, no more wasting time. Goodbye!" The voice replied impatiently.
After that, Akira felt his consciousness fall into darkness...
When Akira opened his eyes, he was lying on a table full of papers with notes and scattered books. There was some confusion at first, but it quickly turned into surprise.
"It wasn't a dream," Akira murmured.
"What wasn't a dream?"
When Akira heard that voice behind him, he almost jumped out of his chair in fright. Looking toward the voice, Akira saw a very beautiful girl with black hair, wearing black clothes and holding a helmet.
He recognized her from his memories: Asami Sato, his sister.
"It's nothing," Akira replied, a bit embarrassed.
But that only lasted a moment, and he quickly recovered: "What do you want? If it's about upgrading the motorcycle, forget it — I'm busy!"
Asami didn't mind and walked up to Akira, grabbing his arm: "Brother, you forgot... Today is your birthday."
When he heard Asami mention his birthday, Akira immediately remembered and replied awkwardly: "I was busy researching and ended up forgetting."
"You're just like Dad when it comes to new research. Both of you get stuck in your labs for days and forget to eat and sleep." Asami complained, dissatisfied.
"Hehe..." Akira could only smile helplessly; when he chose this identity as the adopted son of the Sato family, he didn't expect to become a talented engineer.
According to his memory, Akira's mother was the biological sister of Yasuko Sato, Asami's biological mother.
When he was born, his mother couldn't handle it and died after giving birth. As for Akira's biological father, no one knows.
As her sister's last relative, Yasuko Sato decided to adopt young Akira to take care of the last legacy left by her sister.
So, he is Asami's brother, and she is also his cousin. His adoptive mother is actually his aunt. Akira felt a headache from all this confusion.
Although his request was to be the adopted son of the Sato family, he didn't expect such a strange way of integrating into this world.
"Come on, brother. I'll take you shopping, and in the evening, we'll have dinner to celebrate your birthday." Asami snapped Akira out of his stupor and pulled him to leave.
"What about Dad?" Akira asked.
"I already told Dad, and he promised to meet us at dinner time." Asami replied and kept pulling Akira along.
"Alright then."
With that, Akira followed Asami for a day of shopping. As for the system, he decided to check it out later.
As soon as he regained his memories, he received information on how the system he was given operates.
He would wait until he was alone to check his golden finger; for now, he wanted to enjoy his first day in this world — even though he had lived here since birth.
