Chapter 1 - Unhealed Wounds

"I've places to be"Liam yells, staring at the man in front of him impatiently.

He didn't intend to spend his weekend with a gray haired man,who looked like he had few more weeks to live.

"This will only take a minute, son"the man assured, shooting Liam a warm smile reveling his aged tooth.

The word 'son' spiked memories Liam thought were long forgotten.Liam despises the man in front of him. He never played the father figure, even when Liam was on the brink of loosing his life, the old man was no where to be found.

"As your father,I want you to give your brother one of your companies. As you already know,Lucas lost his job and he has a family to fend for"

Liam thought his ears were playing tricks on him until his father spoke again.

"He is family Liam, you've to help him"he blurted

Liam was fighting the urge to throw a tantrum. Liam and Lucas never got along, they always fought over everything but despite the fights,Liam always held a soft spot for Lucas.

He once offered Lucas,a job as a manager in one of his oil companies. Lucas took the job and ran his company into the ground. After that,Liam gave him another chance,he entrusted Lucas as manger of all his bank accounts but Lucas robbed him of half his money and used it all to gamble. Liam had to pay dearly for all the money he lost by investing in more companies and shares. It took him few years before he could gain back what Lucas lost.

"Say something son"His father said, snapping him out of his thoughts.

His eyes focused on the man seated in front of him. His father have never been present in his life. He owes all his achievements to his late mother who was brutally murdered because of his fathers unpaid debts. He was just 16 year old when it happened.

He was studying for an upcoming exam while his mother was in the kitchen trying to fix both him and Lucas something to eat. Even though, they weren't the richest of the rich and they lived in a shabby house with faded paint back then, their mother always made sure to keep them well fed and cater for all their needs. The murder happened in the living room, right in front of Liam and Lucas. Two muscular men dressed in expensive tailored suits barged into their house demanding for money. Confusion was evident on Lucas mother's face as she tried to reason with the men in front of them but they weren't having it,they claimed there boss sent them there to collect his money or bring back something worth his money. They all knew their father was a gambler and a drunk but they never expected him to borrow a huge amount of money from dangerous people, who looked armed and ready to kill. Elenor,Liam mother tried to plead with them but they weren't having it. One of the men's eyes wandered to Liam and a smirk appeared on his face, the man started walking towards Liam, fear crept in as the man took every step before he could make contact with Liam. His mother blocked his path trying to protect her son.

The man tried to push her away but she wasn't budging, she knew what the man in front of her was capable of doing but she didn't care, she wasn't going to let him or anyone take her son away from her. The man's patience grew thin,he brought out a knife from his pocket and threatened to hurt her with it but she still wasn't budging. Liam watched everything unfold in fear, his heart beating rapidly as he hoped for a miracle.

But the miracle never came,a blood curdling scream did instead and it was the screams of his mother. She slumped to the floor, blood gushing from her chest. His face was filled with terror as he bent beside his mother. He prayed, pleaded and begged her to wake up but all to no avail. She was laying lifeless with a knife in her chest. He couldn't help his screams and cries.

His sadness morphed into anger,he turned his head to where the man stood with the intention to ask him why he did this to his mother except the men were no longer there. They were both gone,he was too busy moaning his mother that he didn't hear when the men made their exit.

The memory always made his eyes teary. He couldn't help but blame himself for the death of his mother. If only he protected her like a good soon then she would still be with him today but he hid behind her like a dumb child. A dumb helpless child who put his mother in danger because of his fear,he would never be able to forgive himself until he finds the men who killed his mother and put them behind bars for the rest of their miserable life.

"Lucas has been given too many chances,he will only waste it just like you wasted all of yours" Liam snapped at his father, trying to hide the hurt from his voice.

His father's smile curved into a frown. His father,Alexander loved his children both dearly and he deeply regrets the fact that he could never give them the life they deserved because of his gambling problem which took away his beautiful wife from him.

He has had to live with the guilty for years and he haven't stopped hating himself since then. He has no idea how Liam managed to get on his feet with so much wealth but he is proud of him but he wishes Liam would be kind enough to give Lucas another chance in one of his companies because he doesn't want his dear son,Lucas to end up like he did because they share the same gambling problem and Alexander hopes one more chance will open the eyes of Lucas.

"Please son, listen to me"Alexander pleaded, his eyes flashing with desperation.

"Listen to you?"Liam questioned,a loud bitter laugh escaping his lips as he eyed his father with disgust. "listening to you will only lead to predicaments and misery.like I said I've places to be. Have a good day Father"with one last look at Alexander,Liam stood up from the chair and walked out of the house ignoring the shouts of his name from his father.

He slipped into the back seat of his car.

"Take me to the bar"he instructed his driver, the middle aged man seated on the drivers seat.

With a simple nod,the driver took off just like Liam's thoughts.
