Waking up this morning was rather unpleasant, Dave was staring at me for a whole hour before the nurse turned up. I wanted to evaporate, his staring made me feel uncomfortable.
When the nurse finally turned up, late! She came over then checked my vitals. When she gave me the all clear to be discharged she strolled back to her desk.
Curtis came balancing a tray with my breakfast while the nurse was typing. I ate like I'd never been fed before, I was absolutely starving.
Now I'm waiting to be discharged. Watching the clock tick by.
When I see movement out of the corner of my eye, my eyes dart over to the nurse. I watch as she picks up the phone and talks quietly, when she's finished she puts the phone back in its place.
Now it's a waiting game.
There's footsteps coming from the hallway, my eyes are now peeled on the doorway.
When John steps through he goes to the nurses desk and quietly talks with her, I watch them talk.
As soon as John is finished he turns and strolls over to me, his being casual, he has a small smile on his face. His not angry.
'Good morning Hope'
'Morning John' I say back with a smile
'You gave me quite the scare yesterday, no more pranks, please Hope, for me' he practically begs.
'I'm sorry John, the mess we found was a prank too, we were only trying to cover our tracks' I mumble quietly. John sighs heavily
'I think you've learned your lesson this time, Mr Tiz still wants you in secure until Monday morning' he smiles sadly 'I can't change his mind, his still furious with you all' I nod solemnly.
I climb off the bed in defeat, I have no choice but spend the rest of the week in secure. John grabs my shoulder lightly then escorts me to secure in silence. It's deafeningly silent between us.
As we walk into the secure hallway Curtis stands up trying to grab me.
'No need Curtis, I've got this' John says sternly.
John walks me down to the fourth cell then pulls a key and unlocks it. He yanks the cell door open and releases my shoulder, I walk over to the bench and sit down, looking back at John.
'Mr Tiz is currently arranging for your revision to be collated, I'll bring it in once I have everything'
'Thank-you' I mumble quietly
'Use your time in here to get your revision done and I expect you to reflect on your behaviour Hope' he orders sternly.
'I know John' he fakes a laugh at this
'You clearly don't understand how serious this could have been Hope! Mr Tiz could have had all three of you arrested for criminal damage! Do you not think that the judge could send you to a youth detention facility?!' He yells in anger, he takes a few deep breaths to calm himself down
'You have less than a year left until you turn 18 Hope, I don't want to see you going from here straight to prison, that's the next place for you' he tells me sadly.
I watch as John steps out, closing and locking the cell door behind him. I listen as he walks away, his footsteps echoing into my cell.
The lights switch off a few minutes later, the cell going dark.
I lay myself down on the bench and stare up at the ceiling, there's only a slither of small light so I can't see that well.
The semi darkness is annoying, i hope John doesn't take too long to bring me my revision.
....
I have no idea how long it's been but a tray is posted through the door, the lights switching on. I climb up off the bench and grab the tray, it's bread and butter, I take the tray back to the bench and sit down to eat. Thankfully it's not soup! I'm certainly not complaining.
I eat my food then post the tray back through the door then lay back down on the bench. It doesn't take long for the lights to switch off again and I'm back in dark.
I close my eyes and get as comfortable as I can, eventually I drift off to sleep.
...
It's been hours! If not longer! All I can do is sleep and pretty much twiddle my thumbs so as soon as my door is unlocked and pulled open, revealing John, I'm relieved.
No more darkness for hours on end and now there will be something to do.
John steps in, walking over to the desk and places down my revision, then he walks back to the door
'Make sure you revise Hope' John says sternly
'It's not like there's anything else to do in this hellhole John' I quip exasperatedly which causes John to chuckle.
I watch as John closes and locks the cell door then I hear him talking quietly with someone outside, I can't tell what's being said though. When the mumbling voices stop, I listen to the footsteps receding.
I pull myself up off the bench then sit down on the chair by the desk.
Let's start revising!
