Chapter 4 - Just A Retired Army

Sophia's family is one of the richest in the USA, and is also one of the most well-known families in the entire country and the city of Atlanta. Many people have tried and failed to connect with them due to their high social class.

Abigail and her parents, seeing Sophia in their presence now, created an impression that their family was about to be known in the whole of Atlanta.

"Sophia, welcome to my house. I can't believe you are here for my engagement party," Abigail spoke with nervousness, grinning vigorously like a fool, as she walked forward to welcome Sophia.

But to her surprise, Sophia didn't say a word to her. She walked past her like she was invisible, heading straight to Henry.

She stood in front of Henry, and she could tell how surprised he was. On how she has been able to locate him. The pair of earrings Henry had given to her could only be used for one function, which is for him to come to her, not her to come to him.

Sophia breathed softly, and with a calm voice, she said. "Please come with me."

Everybody who had experienced this was stunned as to why Sophia had approached Henry instead of Abigail, who was the one celebrating her engagement.

What could make Sophia come to Abigail's engagement party if not to congratulate her? This question left everyone clueless.

"Um, sorry, but are you sure you ain't talking to the wrong person, because this man just stormed in here and we are about to chase him out of the mansion?" Lucia said, trying to convince, and at the same time confirm if Sophia wasn't talking to the wrong person.

"I think you are here to see my daughter Abigail, right?" she added, desperately, after grinning like a fool.

"Abigail?"

Sophia echoed the name curiously, then shifted her gaze back to Lucia. "I don't even know who Abigail is, or who the name implies. I'm only here to meet this man I am talking to, so please, if you could all excuse me, I have urgent things to attend to."

Sophia brushed off their thoughts, with a dismissive reply.

Abigail's family was embarrassed by the scene that had just happened. People kept asking if Sophia had come to see Abigail, probably they might be friends or something, but the people were disappointed that Sophia came to see a man dressed in tattered clothes, looking like a madman.

Henry and Sophia walked to the Ferrari she had parked outside, and so they got in. They rode out of Abigail's family mansion with the watchful eyes of the people. Leaving them clueless, with unresolved thoughts and questions.

While driving, Henry shifted his gaze to Sophia, who was focused on driving.

"You said you don't want to have anything to do with me. It looks like you can't stay away from me after all."

Henry smirked, pushing backwards onto the Ferrari's soft seat.

Sophia fumed before raging at Henry in a high voice. "You pervert, what do you see yourself as? You have no importance to me."

"And yet, I'm in your car, having a sweet free ride, huh." Henry scoffed with narrowed eyes before laughing.

Sophia gasped. She knew Henry had figured out why she had come looking for him. She didn't want to play hard and went straight to the point.

"I need your help, and it's a very serious one, or I will lose someone precious to me."

Sophia finally spoke out, her voice low and her tone and facial expression changed, looking sad.

It turns out that after Sophia learned that her grandfather was seriously ill, she immediately thought of Henry, who had once casually cured her heart condition in just a few moves. Sophia believed Henry's medical skills were extraordinary and wanted him to treat her grandfather.

As it happens, the earring Henry gave Sophia has a tracking function—not only can Henry see Sophia's location, but Sophia can also track Henry in return. Though the reason she tracked his location was that she ended up smashing the earrings by mistake. She then hired a man to help access the device and track Henry. Because she needed his help urgently..

Henry realises he misunderstood her intentions and gives an awkward, sheepish smile. He thought she must have loved the sex they had and wanted more from him.

But the next second, a loud crash sounded in front of the car, making Sophia slam on the brake pedal, and so the car stopped.

Sophia tried starting the car, but it wasn't coming on. She was dazed as to what had happened. And just immediately, four cars came to a stop, surrounding them, and a bunch of men trooped out of the cars, fully armed with guns.

Sophia flinched after seeing this. Her legs began trembling, her heart rising in panic.

The attackers are henchmen sent by Sophia's old enemy—Thomas, a ruthless villain who had been plotting to kidnap Sophia for a long time. He also had a hand in drugging Sophia at the club, wanting to make her die from the effect. But he was shocked that she survived.

Thomas somehow learned that Sophia went out without bodyguards, and Thomas saw the chance to strike in kidnapping her. But what he didn't expect was that Sophia would be together with Henry.

Henry shifted his gaze to Sophia and with a calm, assuring smile, he said, "Stay here. I will be back."

"Those men have guns, they might kill you if you do anything foolish. Where are you going? Stay here with me. I'm already placing a call for the police to come to our aid."

Sophia panicked, fearing that Henry could get hurt. He wasn't with a weapon or anything to defend himself.

Henry sneered, refusing to utter any words, then stepped out of the car.

"What is this fool doing? Don't make me laugh, are you trying to fight the bunch of us? We are more than twenty in total. We are fully armed, you have no chance against us."

One of the men, the one leading the henchmen, warned with a sneer.

"We are here for the lady. Walk away, and we won't hurt you." He added, his face scowling in anger.

"The lady, she's with me, and she's going nowhere," Henry replied, then began walking forward.

"This man thinks I am joking with my warnings. Hey Mr or whoever you are, you are going to die, since you wish to choose the path of acting brave."

The leader of the squad sneered, then stepped forward, his fist clenched.

The man went close to Henry, then threw a punch, but just in a split second, Henry skillfully dodged the blow, then broke the man's leg, grabbed his hands, and broke them as well.

The man begged for mercy, crying, but Henry, infuriated, broke his second leg, leaving the man screaming in pain.

The rest of the men shot towards Henry in reaction, but Henry beat the whole of them, and the few that were able to survive got to the car they had come with and fled.

Sophia was left stunned after witnessing what had just happened.

Her eyes widened in disbelief then suddenly caught up to the injury Henry had gotten from the fight. Blood gushed from the side of his shoulder after taking a hit from one of the bullets he tried to avoid.

Henry got back to the car as promised, opened the door, and pulled Sophia out.

"Who are you? Are you some sort of an extraordinary human being or what?" Sophia asked, her eyes filled with disbelief, curiosity already taking hold of her.

Henry didn't only possess medical skills. He could also perform high combat skills, and a lot more. He didn't make riches, only describe him.

Henry scoffed before giving a reply. "Hehehe, there is nothing like an extraordinary human. I'm just a retired soldier who is well-trained; that's how I could defeat them."

The lies weren't adding any sense to Sophia. Henry was

too young to be retired.

She stared dumfoundedly. Her thoughts spiralled, trying to imagine the entire thing.
