Chapter 74: The Kings and the Pretenders
(Alexander's POV)
The afternoon sun spilled through the tall, arched windows of the west hall, gilding everything in a thin, deceptive warmth. You could almost forget the air was poisoned with gossip. Almost.
Arthur and I had just finished English. It was rare to have the same class together. The bell was still echoing down the corridor, and the faint murmur of students filled the air.
We had another class together, our last class for the day. Micheal hated that all three of our schedules didn't match but that wasn't our fault.
We turned the corner, heading toward the staircase that led to the lockers. The halls were beginning to thin — a few stragglers, the faint hum of chatter, lockers slamming shut. It should've been an ordinary walk out of class.
