At that moment, Nevaeh sat quietly in the back seat, being driven to the academy by the chauffeur.
Her mind kept replaying the scene from that morning when she'd woken up, completely unaware that the person driving her wasn't the usual driver.
When the car stopped at the academy gates, Nevaeh reached for the door handle and said softly, "Thank you."
Before she could get out, a calm voice spoke from the front. "Young Mistress."
Startled by the unfamiliar tone, Nevaeh looked up and blinked in surprise when she saw Sawyer behind the wheel. "Sawyer? What are you doing here?"
Sawyer smiled politely. "Jarek had something urgent to take care of today, so I'm the one driving you, Young Mistress."
Nevaeh nodded and reached again for the door, ready to leave, but Sawyer's hesitant voice stopped her. "Young Mistress... I'm sorry."
Nevaeh frowned slightly. "Why are you apologizing to me?"
Since the night before, guilt had been weighing heavily on Sawyer's mind.
