Chapter 2 - Receive the Family Heirloom

Cyrille wasn't here to fight.

"Nevaeh, let the past be the past. I still care about you. My brother's in a coma, and being with him basically means you'll be living like a widow. We can keep our relationship secret, and once my brother is gone, all his fortune will be ours."

Nevaeh had never realized just how disgusting Cyrille could be.

After hearing his words, she scoffed and shot back, "What if your brother doesn't die?"

She had already given Cassius the injection, and she was sure he'd wake up soon.

"That's impossible! The doctors already said he's critical, and the coffin's even been prepared," Cyrille said confidently.

Nevaeh narrowed her eyes. "Do you really think that if your brother wakes up and finds out you've been wishing him dead, he won't want to kill you?"

Cyrille flinched and quickly turned to look at Cassius Bennett lying on the bed. Seeing his eyes still tightly shut, he relaxed a little.

"Stop trying to scare me."

Nevaeh didn't have time to deal with him.

"Are you leaving or not? If you don't, I'm calling someone right now."

Cyrille was pissed, but he didn't dare cause a scene. He knew Nevaeh wasn't bluffing. He stormed off angrily.

After he left, Nevaeh sat down beside Cassius's bed and looked at his sleeping face.

Her tone softened. "Did you hear that? Someone's already planning your death, waiting to steal the fortune you worked so hard for. Do you really want your money to fall into that jerk's hands?"

But the person on the bed didn't move at all.

Just as Nevaeh finished speaking, there was a knock on the door.

Hussein walked in. "Madam, the elder of the Bennett family is here. He wants to see you."

Nevaeh glanced at Cassius again, unsure when he'd finally wake up.

Everyone's body reacts differently, and the time it takes to regain consciousness isn't always the same.

She had already done all she could. The rest was up to him.

Inside the study, Nevaeh met Quade Bennett, the elder of the Bennett family.

His hair was gray, but he still looked strong.

He leaned on a cane, though it was obvious his legs weren't in great shape.

"Good day, Elder," Nevaeh said, bowing her head slightly to greet him.

"Mm." The elder's voice was deep as he walked over, supported by someone.

He stopped in front of her and stared closely.

"You're the bride Cassius married yesterday?"

"Yes, I'm Nevaeh Huck," she replied politely.

Nevaeh was calm and straightforward.

The elder looked at her and nodded with satisfaction. "You already know about Cassius's condition. I'm sorry for all the trouble this marriage has brought you. If there's anything you want, feel free to say it. The Bennett family will do our best to meet your needs."

The old man spoke kindly, his face full of warmth. Nevaeh looked at him and suddenly thought of her grandmother.

She felt a weird, unexpected fondness for him, like a grandpa she never had.

"Thank you, Grandpa, but I really don't need anything."

"Hm? What did you call me?"

Nevaeh blinked, then said again, "Grandpa?."

"Good, good." The old man turned around and picked up a beautiful box from the table.

He handed it to Nevaeh. "This is a family heirloom of the Bennett family. You should keep it."

Nevaeh quickly shook her head.

"Grandpa, this is way too valuable."

An heirloom? She was just a temporary bride. There was no way she deserved that.

"You'll take it because I said so."

The elder didn't budge, gently pressing the box into her hands.

Looking at her quiet and respectful face, he grew even more fond of her. "The master said your destiny aligns with Cassius's. You're the one who can save him. With you by his side, I can finally feel at peace. If he wakes up and you two end up having a child, there'll be a big reward waiting for you!"

Nevaeh forced a smile.

She knew deep down she'd be leaving in a few days anyway, so the whole idea of some great-grandchild reward was just impossible. Besides, Cassius Bennett didn't even like her.

But when she saw the happy smile on the old man's face, she just couldn't bring herself to tell him the truth.

"Thank you, Grandpa."

"We're family, no need to be so polite," the old man replied, waving his hand. "Now go take care of Cassius."

Nevaeh nodded and turned to leave.

"Did you see that?" After Nevaeh left, the old man watched her figure and asked.

Hussein turned his head and spoke respectfully, "The young lady has dark circles under her eyes. It looks like she stayed up all night taking care of Cassius."

"Yes, she's a good kid," the old man sighed. "It's unfortunate for her, but from now on, she'll be the one calling the shots in this house."

"Understood!"

Meanwhile, in Cassius's room...

A woman in a tight red dress walked in, standing beside the bed as she stared at Cassius's insanely handsome face.

She gently lifted her hand and brushed her fingers against his cheek. "Cassius, please wake up. Out of all the men I've met, I still think you're the best…"

As she spoke, the woman leaned down, moving closer and closer to Cassius's lips.

Right when their lips were about to touch, a deep and clear voice suddenly shattered the silence.

The woman gasped, jumping back from the bed, her eyes wide with shock as she stared at Cassius, who was now awake.

A moment later, Cassius slowly opened his eyes.

Everything in the room went from blurry to sharp, and when his vision focused on the woman in front of him, his voice was low but serious. "Did you save me?"

Elizabeth Brown froze. She couldn't believe what she was seeing.

At first, she shook her head without thinking, then quickly nodded instead.

She rushed forward and hugged Cassius tightly.

"It's me, Cassius! Thank goodness you're awake!"

Right at that moment, Nevaeh walked into the room. As soon as she stepped in, she was greeted by that scene.

She instantly felt like she had just walked in on something she shouldn't have, and she hesitated, taking a small step back.

But then she saw the wedding decorations on the wall and remembered, she was his wife.

With that thought, she straightened up and walked in, clearing her throat.

The two immediately separated. The woman in red gave Nevaeh a sharp glare before running out shyly.

Nevaeh didn't really care. But suddenly, she felt a cold stare burning into her.

She turned and saw Cassius looking at her with eyes as dark as a storm.

His gaze was sharp and filled with rage, like she had done something horribly wrong.

She blinked, confused.

Wasn't he the one cozying up to another woman just now?

Why was he looking at her like she was the problem?

"You're awake."

"Who are you?"

Their voices overlapped. Both froze for a second.

Right then, Hussein walked in, and the awkward air broke.

"Young master, you're finally awake!" he shouted with joy.

Hearing that, people came rushing into the room until it was packed full.

After checking on Cassius, the doctor reported excitedly to the elder, "It's a miracle! Truly unbelievable. All of Cassius's functions are back to normal. He should fully recover soon."

No one was happier than the old man. After three whole years, his grandson had finally opened his eyes.

He held Cassius's hand tight, tears in his eyes.

"It's so good to see you awake! Grandpa's so happy. Just like the master said, giving you that joyful blessing really saved you."

"Joyful blessing?" Cassius's voice was low and filled with sarcasm.

"Yes," the old man replied, turning toward Nevaeh Huck, who was standing quietly to the side.

He smiled.

"This is your new wife, Nevaeh Huck."

"Nevaeh, you saved Cassius. You are now the Bennett family's greatest benefactor."

With that, the old man took Nevaeh's hand and tried to place it into Cassius's.

But just before their hands could touch, Cassius's expression turned ice cold.

He yanked his hand away in disgust, his voice like a sharp blade as he said just one word, "Get lost."
