Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2

SUGAR

"You want me to be a spy and find out if your husband is having an affair?" I asked in disbelief, staring at her. She nodded slightly as an answer.

"W-why me?" I asked, still bewildered.

"You can hire an expert, Ma'am. That's more legit, and they can get the information you want more easily," I said matter-of-factly to Ma'am, who was now looking at me menacingly.

I couldn't grasp her point. It's true that it would be easier if she just hired an expert; what do I know about that, anyway? The only thing I know is how to fantasize about her.

"Why are you even here, Ms. Lacaforte?" she asked coldly. She's staring at me intently. It's like if I answer in a way she doesn't like, I'll surely face doom.

I looked away. I felt like I was getting burned by her gaze.

"Uhm, b-because I was late," I answered in a whisper.

"You know my rules, right?" I could sense the threat in her tone. I knew what she wanted to say.

As much as possible, I didn't want to end up like one of my classmates who she failed recently. If kneeling and begging was what it took, I would do it.

"Y-yes, Ma'am, I know," I answered and met her gaze, which I shouldn't have done. She was more like a tiger when she looked at me. It was scary.

She nodded. I didn't miss the fleeting glimpse of her smile. It was only a second before her face turned serious again.

"Then start to obey me from now on," she ordered with a threatening tone. Because I was scared, I nodded without hesitation.

"It's settled then," she said as she placed a small piece of paper in front of me.

"Don't worry, I'll instruct you," she said and pointed to the small piece of paper. "That's my number and my address, just save it for now," she added as an afterthought.

"Tomorrow at 10 in the morning. Go to my house and don't be late unless you want me to add to your punishment," she said, raising an eyebrow.

Every now and then, her eyebrows would furrow; wasn't she getting tired of what she was doing? I asked myself.

"Uhm, ye-yes po, Ma'am, I'll be early po," I said nervously, seeing that her gaze had become even sharper as she waited for my answer.

To tell you honestly, her eyes are attractive, as in, extremely beautiful.

It was only now that I was able to observe them properly because her eyes were almost glued to me as she stared at me. She always did that whenever her gaze would fall on me in class, but I still couldn't get used to it.

I don't know if I'm just being delusional, but there's something different about her gaze. I can't explain it, but all I know is that for the entire hour and a half, she wouldn't take her eyes off of me. It's like a routine; before she starts discussing, she'll look at me first. Before the class ends and she leaves the classroom, it's the same.

At this very moment, I may have realized something. Maybe she had been planning to make me do that favor for a long time.

She was just looking for an opportunity. But I also hoped there's something special about her actions. I'm probably just misinterpreting things.

"You may go," she said without emotion before looking away. It's unbelievable that after talking to me, she would just say that and dismiss me so suddenly.

I had no choice but to leave and comply with her request. It probably wouldn't be difficult to be her husband's assistant, as long as that old man doesn't try to take advantage of me.

It's annoying that I have to work for her husband. It would have been better if it was just her so I could be with her and flirt with her all the time. Tsk! I'll just endure this rather than fail her subject.

"I'm leaving now, Ma'am," I said as I closed the door.

She didn't even bother to look at me or thank me for reluctantly agreeing to her favor. Ungrateful.

I suddenly felt sad and weak as I realized the possible things that could happen in the following days. Just imagine, I was only late once to her class, and now I'm immediately an instant personal assistant, slash spy.

With a heavy heart, I took my steps towards the cafeteria. I'll go straight there because my two idiot friends texted me.

When I arrived at the entrance, I immediately spotted the two of them eating. They didn't even wait for me.

"Hey, sugar! Good thing you're still alive!" Celery immediately greeted me as I sat down in front of her; she's really loud.

"You can see I'm here in front of you and still beautiful, right? Of course, I'm still alive. You idiot!" I answered her, and she just rolled her eyes at me.

"We just thought you're dead already knowing how cruel Mrs. Lhust is. I guess she's not in the mood to fail you. You're lucky," Syn said. If only you knew the severe punishment Mrs. Lhust gave me.

"Well, of course, she can't resist me, who am I?" I said, flipping my hair.

"Ma'am probably has a crush on you too; she just doesn't want to say it because she's shy," I boasted jokingly, which the two of them denied.

"You're so full of yourself, Asukal! Ma'am is already married, you idiot! Besides, as if she would leave her husband; he's so handsome. It's a shame you didn't see them earlier when he dropped off Ma'am with matching kiss pa. You should have just died!" Celery said, sounding proud; I should be the one they're siding with and supporting.

"Damn it! You don't even support me, especially since you're also fantasizing about Ms. Reyes. It's fine with us even though it's obvious that you have no chance there because she already has a boyfriend," I retorted, insulting her back. She thinks I won't fight back.

"Hey! At least they're not married yet, so it can still happen. Don't you dare. We're going to end up together with Ma'am. Period!" she shouted, as if she was angry at the whole world.

"Okay, whatever you say," I answered, shrugging my shoulders.

"That's enough with your bickering; you're both hopeless with the professors you like, but I have a date later," she said, smiling, and it was obvious that she was excited. It's because she's single and that's the only professor she likes, so she's just bragging like that.

"THEN WE ALL HOPE!," Celery and I said at the same time, bursting into laughter.

After we left the cafeteria, we immediately went to our last subject. We only had two subjects a day, so it was just half a day, and we were free after.

It used to be that after class, we would go straight to the home for the aged to help with taking care of Lola there. We've been doing that for almost 2 years since Syn accidentally hit an old woman near their clinic.

Lola wasn't severely injured and only sustained bruises, so when she recovered, we decided to take her to the home for the aged because it turned out that she was just a runaway and had been abandoned by her children.

Because we felt sorry for Lola, we decided that it would be better if we just took her there so she could be taken care of properly. Syn herself supports her financially.

So since then, we've made it a routine to visit Lola once a week to bring her food and also bond with her other companions.

Even though these friends of mine are crazy, I love them because I don't have any other choice, anyway.

They're really kind and loving, that's why our bond has become even stronger.

We've been fooling around with those guys for four years now; they're the ones I'm with all the time, and I consider them family. In fact, they also call my mom "Mom."

They're the ones I can say have become my true friends since childhood because we have the same vibes in everything, and even in our type of women, we're the same because we like professors.
