Noah's shoulders rose as he put his hands in his pockets. His eyes lowered slightly from Levi's slim back and just missed the flicker in Levi's watching eyes.
"You wouldn't let me go just because I am compatible with you. You would want me to provide the heir your family requires," Levi went on.
"You think this is about family expectations?" The alpha's deep voice vibrated in the air.
"It means you don't love me. And that means it's temporary," Levi stated, earning a sharp glance from the alpha.
"Everything is temporary, Noah. Your interest in me will last exactly as long as it takes to get what you really want. Maybe like, proof that you're no longer in the league of 'fated to die without any intimate relationships'—well, except real friends, you could have that."
He turned his head to look at the glass beside the door. Ethan sat while Junior pacified the flustered omega whose face was wet.
