Chapter 4 - CHAPTER FOUR

Sheta POV

It seems unbelievable that we have now been on mission for two years. Reflecting on how far we have come, and how many systems we have passed through, it feels like such a long time has passed. I do not know how we could have been so unlucky in our trajectory of our plotted course to encounter two whole systems that were unsuitable for genetic material, alliances and breeding. One system was populated in three planets that were all barren sand and the scuttling bugs on those planets were not sentient as they were still evolving, but the only thing close to an idea of life. The other system we encountered many populated planets, but they were all plant-based life that had not developed beyond response to stimuli. The third system that we traveled through had mostly asteroids like all the planets had been blown up but were still stuck to the Orbit of the system. We found no life there. I was currently following our planed trajectory and getting ready to send report back to Amitera as we had been every moon cycle to provide up to date information and assure our species that we were still on mission. As I prepare that report I can't help but think back to the day that we left. I am glad that I was willing to forgive my twin for keeping me pure that first day of mission. It took me a few hours. Of course, I know that Brey had my best interests in mind, and he is big brother by three minutes blah, blah, blah. Like I haven't heard him say that my whole life. "I am your big brother. I came out first and I am older, so it is my responsibility to look out for you and protect you. You know I will always take to heart what is in your best interest even if you don't like it. Mother and father wouldn't want me to do any less." Well at the time I couldn't see his reasons so, I did not go on the ship when my twin thought that I did. I mean I was a full grown 18-year-old Professional Navigator. Because of my small rebellion I got to see and hear everything. The sex was hot as hetil and I got myself off three times just watching. After that though that is what caused the most hurt. I felt so betrayed that my twin told his best friend how I saw him. At the time I was hurt at first by how Alerit could not see me as a female only a sister. A few hours passed with me fuming to myself, but calm came with the realization of what Brey's actions truly were. A way to protect my happiness. If he had told Alerit and there was some interest there, he may have encouraged him to be mine for my happiness. Brey confirming that I am a sister to Alerit as well.... It freed me. It allowed for my heart and mind to be open in the search that our mission required. The ability to complete what we were tasked with. Finding a cure and a mate that can provide acari. Our survival and ultimate happiness. I sat going through my musings and creating my report when the Nav Console started to beep to alert me of new map information. While looking down at the star chart, the read out indicated a planet that may support life in the new system scanned to the left of our current coordinates. I adjusted the course to get a bit of a closer look. It was smaller than Amitera and bluer than the Darker Green like home. I adjusted course to enter the system and get closer to that planet. There were interesting things happening in this system. As we entered near to the farthest entity from the star of this system there seemed to be a cluster of six moons? That did not seem right so pushing a bit farther into the system I was able to get clearer readings, and it turned out to be a little planet surrounded by five moons. All the moons were different sizes. That was interesting, but the planet would not support life at least for us. A planet that small and so far from the systems star, would not be good and the readings we were getting from the planet proved that. The planet showed a temperature of 387 degrees under zero. I moved past it and on to the next in the system. The planet after the first was just as interesting. It was big and a beautiful shade of blue with small white wispy clouds in the atmosphere. The crust of this planet was so dense the only thing growing on it was ice, So I moved further into the system towards the next planet. This next planet in the system had more coverage of ice than a crust to its surface. The core, however, almost matched the temperature of the surface of this systems star. I had not seen planets like these in our system. Following this systems line to the Star I found the next entity is a collection of gases inside an atmospheric ball surrounded by rings of mostly ice. This system is fascinating. The planet of most interest is the third in the system from the star at the center and it will seem to support life. We are not yet sure that there is life and until we are I change coordinates to a holding just beyond the fifth and largest Planet? Maybe?

It is filled with gases as well, has rings and more than seventy moons, and does not seem to have a core. The strangest thing about this large one is that it seems to produce its own heat separate of any light that may reach it from the star. Once I have our position locked I comm Brey. He needs to be here. " Captain, come to the bridge please. I believe that I have found something to investigate." It did not take three seconds for Brey to appear at my side. At least that is how fast it felt. "What have we got?" He asked with excitement dancing in his eyes." Don't get your hopes too high brother.... It may be nothing, but the third planet in this system has an atmosphere that matches Home." I stared at him and could not help the hope I felt too. "Show me." Is all he said. So, of course I pulled the sensor information. As it pulled up it showed that the planets rotation happened in a twenty-four-hour period and our home planet was larger than this one and it had a slightly slower rotation which created a thirty-six-hour period. Along with the hour difference to it the planet boasted many figures of land and Amitera only had one separated by rivers and lakes between our regions. This planets figures of land looked like large sailing vessels anchored in a vast sea. The best part was that each of the figures of land were filled with a population of species that appeared to be similar to us. They had language and some primitive technology. To our relief they had begun to touch the stars.... It seemed that they had set a remote monitoring station on the fourth planet. Are they searching for life too? Brey said "That may be our sauiter. Now to preform contact. Which figure of land has a people capable of receiving our communication and what are each figure of lands components for governance or is there a central ruling body? " I told Brey, "I will find out and call for you to begin contact." He looked like he was about to jump up and down like he did when we were 7 years old and about to get some Sweltis. "Are you kidding me? I am too excited to wait! I will help." He was so funny. I love my brother.
