Season 1, Episode 2: The Rewind

SCENE START

INT. CLASSROOM - DAY (2013)

Hyun-woo, still in a daze, stares at his younger self's hands. He flexes his fingers, amazed by their unlined smoothness. He's hyper-aware of everything: the scratch of a pen, the low hum of the air conditioner, and the friendly voice of the girl next to him.

JISOO
> Hey. You look like you've seen a ghost.

Hyun-woo looks at Jisoo. He remembers her as the famous idol, the actress who had no scandals. She's just a normal, cheerful high school student now, her future fame still years away.

HYUN-WOO
> (Softly) > I think I did.

Jisoo's smile falters slightly, but she laughs it off.

JISOO
> I'm Jisoo. You're Lee Hyun-woo, right?

HYUN-WOO
> (Nods slowly) > Yeah.

JISOO
> You must be new here. I haven't seen you around before.

Hyun-woo's mind races. He's not new. He's just in the past. He remembers this school, the smell of the hallways, and the way the afternoon sun hits the classroom.

HYUN-WOO
> I... transferred a while ago. Just haven't had a chance to talk to anyone.

JISOO
> Well, it's nice to meet you. Don't be a stranger.

She gives him a warm, genuine smile. Hyun-woo feels a pang of emotion. Her kindness is so different from the cold, calculating world he just left behind.

EXT. HYUN-WOO'S GRANDPARENTS' HOUSE - DAY (2013)

Hyun-woo stands outside a small, old-fashioned house. It's the same house he remembers from his childhood, but it looks brighter and more cared for. The familiar scent of flowers and woodsmoke fills the air. He takes a deep breath, feeling his chest lighten.

He opens the front gate and walks up the path. A woman, his GRANDMOTHER, is tending to a small garden. She looks up, her face lighting up with a warm, wrinkled smile.

GRANDMOTHER
> Hyun-woo! You're home early!

She gets up and rushes to hug him. He feels her soft touch and the faint scent of dirt and flowers on her clothes. He freezes for a moment, then embraces her tightly, a tear rolling down his cheek. He had forgotten what a hug felt like.

HYUN-WOO
> (V.O.) > For so long, I had only known fake affection and forced smiles. This... this was real.

INT. HYUN-WOO'S GRANDPARENTS' HOUSE - DAY (2013)

Hyun-woo sits at a small table, eating a meal his grandmother prepared. His GRANDFATHER sits across from him, reading a newspaper. The scene is simple and quiet, but to Hyun-woo, it's a luxury he never thought he'd have again.

GRANDFATHER
> You were so quiet at dinner tonight. Is everything okay at school?

HYUN-WOO
> (Looking at his grandfather) > Yes, Grandfather. Everything is... it's perfect.

He smiles, a genuine, easy smile that he hasn't felt in a long, long time. He's home.
