Chapter 1 - The Good News

Angel Crimson just like most other girls is pretty and gave off this feminity giving an innocent style. She was raised by a single mom Helena Crimson by name. She is the only child as her dad died 6 months after she was born.

Helena for the love of her husband did everything to train her daughter though she never had a university degree. The Good news is that today's is Angel's birthday, her 17th birthday.

"Where is this girl" Helena said while strolling to the room. Angel still curled up in bed despite the morning yellow sun saying Hi through the curtain she remained unfaced in her calm ethereal beauty. Helena who walked in with intent of sprinkling a hand full of water on her face to wake her up paused to take a look at how she was the perfect combination of her and Fred, her late husband. The thought of her husband made her feel soft all of a sudden, letting a tear drop slip from her eye lids as she closed them letting a quiet sob she reconsidered and sang Angel to wake .

Helena was a bad singer she couldn't sing so fine but she was resilient and always sang when she felt like not minding the feedback of her audience.

Ofcourse a regular audience of hers is Angel, Angel wasn't sure if her sleep would have lasted long without her mother's singing but surely as always that voice with a

unregulated pitch was surely the best alarm so far. As predictable as "the weather in the desert" she got tire of sleep and as if the bed hardened making her uncomfortable she rolled over the bed stretching all the way to the floor, eyes open and staring at her mother she said good morning standing up to go to the bathroom, looking at the mirror as she stood next to the toilet sink she brush her mouth, her mother was now done with singing and now praying for her, that's the best gift any child could ask from a mother. This was what both mother and child believed and it worked for them. Year after year all she requested was her mother's prayers never for once had it occurred to her that asking for a present was better. Never.

Angel in the bathroom still with foaming toothpaste and toothbrush stuffed in her mouth, with her fingers diligently pushing the brush back and forth against her, white teeth said a profounding 'Amen' the moment her mother was done praying.

Her mother left home for work . Her mother worked as a permanent staff an eatery she was the chief cook, for the past one month Angel assisted her mother at her job so that her mother could that promotion. More output meant more money for them. She always wished for a tertiary education and so did her mother for her but they didn't have enough money so they both resolved for her learn a skill she chose photography.

Angel just finished high school with the grade of her dreams. She intended to help her mother till she mastered all the dishes her mother could cook both local and inter-continental.

Things were going smoothly until her aunt came around to visit and upon hearing the pair plan she convinced her that Angel had the chance to tertiary education now, Angel's mother relayed her fears her sister Aunt Herlena comforted her and supported them both with the university registration fee. It was two days to the official close of registration, not wanting to take chances, Angel registered that same evening of the day her aunt visited, now she had to kill two birds with one stone she took 4 hours from her regular 8 hours of her sleep. She didn't want to disappoint her mother, aunt and herself. She was her mother's only hope.

Yes, the visit from her aunt was brief so the next day she set out before leaving she told her to keep her up updated about her exams and result she nodded with a smile waving at her aunt as she drove into the main road.

Aunt Herlena wasn't the social type just like Angel and she didn't always show up in family gatherings didn't have a bond with her only sister Helina Crimson but always shows up when truly needed. To Angel she was an angel, Angel could vividly remember how she showed care and support in her father's sickness death, burial and now she is kick-starting her admission into reality.

Angel is loved at home but due to mistrust towards her mother she hardly spoke to her like a friend and because of her simple cycle she had no friends though she was popular because of her charisma yet she had many acquaintance, such a loner , she wanted a perfect love according to her the type where she didn't have to be scared of him disclosing her secrets with another, sharing his attention and time not excluding his money where was going to be priority, she didn't care if it was fake she only wanted to feel that kind of love in her life even if it was for a moment she said. She was naive and wanted the type of love showed in the movies, though she wasn't aware it always came with a price. Literally, Angel wanted a boyfriend.

Two weeks passed by and a shy guy about her age approached and tried wooing her, without even giving a second thought she said 'No'. Only after few moments did she realize what she had done she needed that status of being someone's girlfriend to escape the reality of the life she lived with her mum, the one where she could experience her fairytale dream, the one where her mother could single handedly afford university tuition fee without breaking the bank and their backs. It pained her most times to know the extra work was because of her.
