Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Forbidden Knowledge and Speculations

As the steam train started, Luo En's tensed nerves gradually relaxed.

"That silver-haired woman told me to find her tomorrow night. By then, the train should have reached its destination. She probably won't find me if I run this far, right?" Luo En wondered uncertainly.

"I just don't know what will happen to Mrs. Griffin. She's so confident, so nothing should happen to her, right?"

"Meow!"

Seemingly sensing the abnormal movement around it, the Orange Cat in the bag began to struggle.

"Quiet down. I'll let you out when we arrive at the station." Luo En soothed the Orange Cat, even stuffing the ham he brought as dry rations into the bag, which finally calmed it down.

Calming his emotions, Luo En took out the expensive information he bought today from his Arms and began to study it.

Luo En first took out two pages of rosell's diary.

"December 16th, I re-established contact with that poor fellow trapped deep within the storm, lost in the Darkness."

"He calls himself Mr. Door and tried to teach me a complex and difficult ritual to help him return to the real world, promising to fulfill three of my requests."

"Does he think I'm stupid? I've lived for over sixty years across two lives; can't I see that this is a typical operation of an evil Devil?"

"But some of the history he described from the Fourth Epoch is truly interesting."

"The information on this page is quite dense. Mr. Door sounds very powerful. According to the diary, he was sealed?"

"But this intelligence is useless to me! Is there anything more practical?"

Although there was a lot of solid information on this page, the knowledge was still too advanced for Luo En, so he turned to another page to read.

This page was very short, with only two sentences.

"October 26th, Miss Solant made me feel young again."

October 28th, I know Duke Lott is listening from the room next door, and frankly, it doesn't feel too bad."

He's so unprincipled... Luo En raised a hand to his forehead. Although Rosell's constant plagiarism already showed he wasn't a serious person, Luo En still held a slight illusion about this fellow Beyonder.

But now...

"There shouldn't be anything more explosive, right?" Luo En pondered uncertainly.

"Oh, right, the previous page said he regretted not choosing the Seer, Apprentice, and Marauder Pathways. Does that mean these three Pathways have some special characteristics?

Damn it, I wish I had seen this page of the diary earlier. Once you choose a Pathway, you can't change it; that's too much of a trap." Luo En was already somewhat dissatisfied with the Monster Pathway, and after seeing the contents of rosell's diary, he felt even more displeased.

"I was too hasty!" Luo En sighed.

Temporarily casting aside the unpleasant thoughts, Luo En took out the knowledge he bought from the Eye of Wisdom and began to read it.

"Sequence 9 is the starting point of Beyonder, the beginning of the corresponding Pathway. By extension, each time you advance, you increase by one Sequence.

Once a Pathway is chosen, there is no turning back. Consuming a Beyonder Potion across Pathways will lead to unimaginable and terrifying consequences.

At the same time, advancement is gradual. If a Beyonder Potion is consumed across Sequences, it will lead to loss of control or even death.

…"

Indeed, it was some basic but practical knowledge. Luo En commented in his mind.

There was also other knowledge about mysticism, but Luo En didn't flip through it. He wanted to calm himself down and digest what was already in his mind.

"Since each advancement increases one Sequence, so there's Sequence 9, sequence 8, what happens if you go further up?"

All the way to Sequence 1? Or is there something after Sequence 1?

Becoming a God? Are Gods also Beyonders?"

A blasphemous thought popped into Luo En's mind.

"Let's make a bold assumption: what if the Seven Gods are also Beyonders?"

Heh, such a crazy idea. If those fanatics knew, I'd be beaten to death, right? Luo En chuckled self-deprecatingly.

"No, I can't let the universal values of this world disrupt my thinking."

"Based on this assumption, if a Beyonder can become a God just by continuously advancing, then wouldn't Gods be everywhere?

But in reality, they're not, so there must be some limitation. Is it harder the higher you go? Or is it because this world doesn't support it, like the so-called Qi cultivation, where the world's spiritual energy only supports a certain number of people becoming Gods?

And the division of various Pathways...

Could it be that the higher you go, the fewer materials there are, and one Pathway can only support one God?

Moreover, the number of Beyonders in this world is not large, if we exclude the possibility that someone can control the number of Beyonders...

But humanity in this world hasn't developed towards a high-martial direction."

Luo En frowned, feeling as if he had discovered something.

"According to this line of thought, perhaps it indicates that the quantity of those Beyonder materials is limited, or that the output cannot keep up with the consumption.

But no matter which one, if stretched over time, it will always lead to the loss of Beyonder power.

Of course, it's not impossible that high-Sequence individuals can live for a very long time, like being coeval with heaven.

But if a high-Sequence Beyonder dies unexpectedly, and the materials for that Pathway are gone, and low-Sequence individuals can't ascend, over time, that Pathway will still disappear.

Unless, unless Beyonder can be inherited!

That way, even if there are no natural materials left, the Pathway won't be broken.

And Gods, they are quite different from the Gods of my original world.

They all represent specific domains, for example, the Lord of Storms represents the ocean, the Evernight Goddess represents tranquility, and the God of Steam and Machinery should represent technology.

Could it be that a God represents a concept itself?

And concepts are unique, so there can only be one."

Luo En recalled the knowledge in his memory and suddenly had a flash of inspiration.

"Wait, Rosell has always been closely related to the Steam Church in history, so his Pathway is most likely within the Steam Church."

"As a Beyonder, I don't believe he didn't want to become a God, but he didn't. The Seven Gods didn't become Eight Gods."

"Does that mean that with the God of Steam and Machinery already existing, it was difficult for him to continue advancing?"

"And Rosell regretting not choosing the Seer, Apprentice, and Marauder Pathways, does that mean that there are no Gods in these three Pathways yet, and thus there's an opportunity to become a God?"

"Then I'm even more at a disadvantage!"

Following this line of thought, Luo En felt even more that he had suffered a great loss, having chosen the Monster Pathway instead of these three more promising Pathways.

"It seems that once a Pathway is determined, there's indeed no going back. Even Rosell couldn't successfully switch Pathways. He was Emperor Caesar! He had so many resources but couldn't achieve this."

Luo En looked out the window, intending to enjoy the scenery and change his mood, but upon seeing the crimson Moon, Luo En did not feel calm; instead, he felt more irritable.

Completely different from his original world: different eras, different scenery, different Moon.

Coupled with the blasphemous thoughts swirling in his mind, Luo En felt as if he had truly become a Monster, a Monster out of place in this world.
