Chapter 3 - The Voices Grow Louder

Long after the crystal shattered and the dual curse settled into Oluwa's bones, the true weight of his new existence began to reveal itself.

He no longer slept. Whenever his eyes closed, the titans stirred. Fyragos, Lord of Flame, filled his right side with visions of cities reduced to glowing ash and oceans boiling into empty steam. Cryona, Mistress of Frost, answered from the left with images of a world locked in perfect stillness—every heartbeat frozen, every living thing sealed in eternal ice. Their voices never ceased. They argued through him, using his own thoughts as weapons, testing the fragile will that still called itself human.

Oluwa retreated deep into the Rift, to a narrow ledge where ancient ice cliffs leaned against slow rivers of lava. There, away from the fearful eyes of his village, he tried to master the forces tearing him apart. Frost crawled in jagged patterns up his left arm. Fire licked along his right, leaving blackened scars that healed only to burn again. Every breath was a battle between freezing his lungs and setting them ablaze.

It was on the third night that a familiar voice cut through the titans' endless quarrel.

"Brother…"

Ayo stood at the edge of the ledge, small and frightened, clutching a woven basket of food and medicine the villagers had dared to send. Her eyes widened at the sight of him—half his body rimmed in blue frost, the other half wreathed in flickering flame, twin sparks burning in his mismatched eyes.

Oluwa took a single step toward her, then stopped. The air between them shimmered with deadly heat and killing cold. "Stay back," he said, voice cracking between ice and fire. "I cannot control it yet."

Tears filled her eyes, but she did not run. "They say you are changing. They say you might not come back. The Order is gathering again. They have found something—an old weapon from the time of the gods. They mean to force the Rift open and take the power for themselves."

At the mention of the Order, the titans surged.

"She is a weakness," Fyragos roared. "Burn the weakness."

"She will slow you," Cryona whispered. "Freeze her. Preserve her forever."

Oluwa staggered, clutching his head. Frost and fire exploded outward in a violent ring. Ayo screamed and threw herself behind a boulder as the ledge cracked and black glass formed where ice and lava met.

When the surge faded, Oluwa was on his knees, breathing hard. Blood—half frozen crystals, half steaming drops—ran from the corner of his mouth. Ayo peeked out, trembling but still there.

"You're still my brother," she said firmly. "Even if the whole world calls you cursed."

For the first time since the crystal shattered, something inside him quieted—not the titans, but the storm of despair. He looked at his sister and forced the words out through clenched teeth.

"Then help me stay that way."

He rose slowly, every movement a war between the two forces living in his veins. The dual glow in his eyes steadied. "Tell the villagers to prepare. The Order will come for the Rift soon. And when they do… I will be waiting."

Far below, the broken Crystal of Dual Elements pulsed once, brighter than before.

And somewhere beyond the mountains, in a hidden chamber lit by cold blue lanterns, the leaders of the Order of the Unbound smiled as they uncovered the ancient weapon—an artifact forged in the age of the gods themselves, designed to shatter the living seal and free the titans once more.

The true test of Icevolcanoman had only just begun.
