Dr. Aris returned after what felt like an eternity, but was probably just a few hours, my Digivice clutched in her hand. Her expression was completely unreadable, which, honestly, made me a little nervous. Olivia just stood there, still giving off that 'don't mess this up' vibe.
"The simulations are complete, Mr. Kepler," Dr. Aris announced, her voice calm and professional. She held out my Digivice, and I took it back, relieved. "The results are… surprisingly promising."
I could not help but grin. "Told you so," I mumbled, a little too cocky.
"The core architecture you have designed, or acquired, is remarkably stable," she continued, ignoring my interruption. "Far more robust than I would have anticipated from a theoretical blueprint. Our preliminary models show that YGD's existing data infrastructure could integrate with it seamlessly, assuming we resolve the energy demands you mentioned."
"So, it is a go?" I asked, my excitement bubbling over. "We can make this happen? A formal partnership between DataStream Dynamics and YGD?"
Dr. Aris hesitated then, a flicker of something unreadable crossing her face. She looked at Olivia, then back at me, a sigh escaping her lips.
"The technical aspects are certainly viable," she admitted, her gaze drifting to the holographic blueprint, which was still faintly visible on the wall. "However, a formal partnership... that presents a different kind of challenge."
"What kind of challenge?" I asked, my enthusiasm deflating a little. "Is it about funding? Because Tony is practically swimming in money."
"It is not about funding, Mr. Kepler," she clarified, a hint of weariness in her tone. "It is about… past professional interactions. Specifically, with Mr. Stark."
"Oh, come on," I scoffed, rolling my eyes. "Tony can be a bit much, I get it, but he is a genius. You cannot deny that."
"His genius is not in question," Dr. Aris said, her voice firm. "His methodology, however, and his… singular approach to collaboration, have historically been quite difficult for YGD to navigate."
"Difficult how?" I pressed, sensing a familiar corporate drama unfolding. "Did he try to take credit for your work or something?"
"Let us just say our previous endeavors involved clashing egos and vastly differing operational philosophies," she replied, a sour note entering her voice. "It left a rather unpleasant taste, professionally speaking."
"Let us just say our previous endeavors involved clashing egos and vastly differing operational philosophies," she replied, a sour note entering her voice. "It left a rather unpleasant taste, professionally speaking."
I could feel the tension building, like static electricity in the air. Dr. Aris clearly had some bad blood with Tony, and it was threatening to derail my whole plan. I was about to jump in, probably with some sarcastic comment about Tony's charm, but Olivia beat me to it.
"Dr. Aris," Olivia said, her voice smooth and calm, a stark contrast to the charged atmosphere. "I understand past experiences can be… indelible."
She walked a step closer, her gaze firm and direct.
"However, this project, EDEN, is a different venture entirely," she continued, her voice resonating with an authority I had not heard from her before. "It is not merely a Stark initiative, nor is it solely YGD's. This is Mr. Kepler's vision, and my investment. It is a paradigm shift, one that demands we look beyond old grievances."
I shot Olivia a quick, grateful glance. She was basically telling Dr. Aris to get over herself, but in the most polite, corporate way possible. It was actually pretty impressive.
"Ethan's blueprint, as you have confirmed, is sound," Olivia pressed on. "The potential for human connection and technological advancement is immense. Surely, that outweighs a personal disagreement with Mr. Stark's… unique style?"
Dr. Aris's eyes narrowed, but there was a flicker of thought behind them now, not just stubbornness. She glanced at the holographic EDEN blueprint again, then back at Olivia. The silence stretched, thick and heavy, punctuated only by the low hum of the lab equipment. I held my breath, my heart pounding in my chest. This was it, the moment of truth.
Finally, Dr. Aris nodded slowly, a deep sigh escaping her lips. "Very well, Ms. Adele. Mr. Kepler."
A small smile played on her lips, and I could feel my own breaking out in response.
"YGD will enter into a partnership with DataStream Dynamics," she stated, her voice regaining its professional cadence. "However, I must insist on two conditions."
"Name them," I said, my voice probably a little too eager. I was practically bouncing on the balls of my feet.
"Firstly," she began, "my team, the YGD research division assigned to Project EDEN, will report directly to you, Mr. Kepler. Not to Mr. Stark."
"Deal!" I exclaimed, before she could even get to the second condition. Tony was great and all, but having direct control over the technical side was exactly what I wanted.
"Secondly," Dr. Aris continued, a slight smirk now on her face, "YGD will retain a degree of operational autonomy in our research methods and internal structure. We are not to be simply absorbed into a larger corporate entity."
"Absolutely," I agreed without hesitation. "You guys do your thing. Just keep me in the loop, and let us build something amazing together."
Dr. Aris extended her hand, and I eagerly shook it. "Then, Mr. Kepler, I believe we have a deal."
"We certainly do, Dr. Aris," I replied, a wide grin plastered across my face. We had our tech partner.

Back in Olivia's sleek car, the city lights blurred past the tinted windows, painting streaks of red and white against the darkening sky. The hum of the engine was a low, steady thrum beneath us. I turned to Olivia, a genuine smile spreading across my face.
"Seriously, Olivia," I started, "I could not have done that without you. Dr. Aris was ready to shut me down, but you just… swept in and smoothed everything over."
"Oh, it was nothing, Ethan," she said, a playful glint in her dark eyes as she glanced at me, then back at the road. "Just a little diplomatic negotiation."
"Nothing? Are you kidding?" I chuckled, shaking my head. "That was like watching a master negotiator at work. I mean, EDEN is actually happening now. It's not just some crazy idea in my head. It is real, and it is because of you."
"You had the vision, Ethan," Olivia said, her smile softening. "I merely helped clear the path."
"Still, I am incredibly grateful," I insisted. "Thank you, Olivia. Truly."
She nodded, a knowing look on her face. "You are quite welcome, Ethan. I believe in this project, and I believe in you."
"You know," Olivia continued, her tone shifting slightly, becoming more business-like yet still warm, "I could be more than just a facilitator, if you would like."
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Oh? What did you have in mind?"
"DataStream Dynamics will need significant backing, especially in these early stages," she explained, her gaze fixed on the road. "I have… extensive connections. Resources. I could be your primary backer, Ethan."
"My primary backer?" I repeated, letting the words sink in. That was a huge offer.
"Indeed," she confirmed. "Think of the advantages. I could expedite permits, secure necessary hardware, even help fast-track the entire creation of EDEN. My involvement would smooth over a great many bureaucratic and logistical hurdles."
"You are serious?" I asked, a grin stretching across my face. This was like hitting the jackpot. Having Olivia on board, not just as a landlord but as a full-blown business partner, felt almost too good to be true.
"Completely serious," she replied, a confident smile playing on her lips. "So, what do you say?"
"I would love nothing more, Olivia," I said, my voice filled with genuine enthusiasm. "Absolutely. Let us do this."
"Excellent," she murmured, a satisfied hum in her voice. "I thought you would see the wisdom in that."
As I watched Olivia navigate the city traffic with effortless confidence, her hands steady on the wheel, a new understanding of her settled in. The streetlights caught the blonde strands of her hair, making them gleam like spun gold. I had always seen her as just my quirky landlord, the woman with the terrible coffee and the surprisingly lenient payment plans. She was kind, a bit mysterious, and always seemed to know more than she let on, but I had never really grasped the scope of her world.
Now, though, I saw the truth, or at least a much larger piece of it. Olivia Adele was not just some wealthy investor. She was a woman of immense power and influence, capable of pulling strings I did not even know existed. The way she had handled Dr. Aris, the casual mention of "extensive connections" and "resources" that could "expedite permits" and "secure hardware"—it all clicked into place. She was a true force of nature, moving through her world with an elegant, understated authority that commanded respect. And somehow, this formidable woman was my landlord, my quasi-mentor, and now, my business partner. The thought was both exhilarating and a little terrifying.
