"Woah!" I exclaim as the two feline Digimon knock me onto my back. "Okay, okay, I'm up, I'm up!" I can't help but grin, though. Two partners right off the bat? Talk about hitting the jackpot. The white one… that's definitely Gatomon. And the black one? Has to be BlackGatomon. Sweet!
Gatomon purrs, nuzzling my cheek. "It's so great to finally meet you, Ethan!"
BlackGatomon chimes in, her voice a touch more mischievous. "Yeah, we've been waiting a long time for this."
"You know my name?" I ask, surprised. "How?"
Gatomon pulls back slightly, her blue eyes sparkling with warmth. "We've always known you, Ethan. We're your partners, after all."
BlackGatomon nods, her crimson gaze meeting mine. "That's right. We're here to help you become the best Tamer you can be."
Gatomon and BlackGatomon stare at me expectantly, waiting for my reaction. "Are you happy to see us?" Gatomon asks, tilting her head.
"Happy?" I repeat, a wide smile spreading across my face. "Are you kidding? I'm stoked! I can't believe I got two partners, and awesome ones at that!" I reach out and hug them both tightly. "It's great to meet you, Gatomon, BlackGatomon."
Gatomon beams, preening slightly. "I'm so glad you're happy, Ethan. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside."
BlackGatomon scoffs, rolling her eyes. "Please, Ethan's happy because I'm here. Who wouldn't be thrilled to have the coolest Digimon around?"
"Coolest?" Gatomon retorts, her eyes narrowing. "You're nothing but a shadow, BlackGatomon. Ethan appreciates my grace and wisdom, unlike your…"
"Unlike my what?" BlackGatomon snaps, her claws extending slightly. "Don't tell me you're gonna start lecturing me about 'the power of light' again, Gatomon. Ethan needs strength, not some sappy sermon."
"Strength without purpose is meaningless!" Gatomon hisses, her tail lashing back and forth. "Something you clearly don't understand."
"Oh, I understand power just fine," BlackGatomon snarls. "And I'm going to help Ethan get plenty of it."
"Alright, alright, you two," I interject, stepping between them. "Let's cool it with the squabbling, okay? I'm happy to have both of you as my partners. No need to fight over who's the 'coolest' or whatever."
I scratch them behind the ears to try and appease them.
The Digimon stop fighting, relaxing into my touch. "More," BlackGatomon practically demands, pushing her head into my hand. Gatomon purrs contentedly, leaning into my other hand.
"Alright, alright," I chuckle, "I got plenty of pets for both of you." I continue to scratch them, enjoying the feeling of their soft fur under my fingers. Man, they're like super-powered kittens. Though, considering what I know about them, they can be so much more.
Curious, I scan them with the Digi-Goggles.
[Gatomon]
[Level: Champion]
[Type: Holy Beast]
[Attribute: Vaccine]
[Special Move: Lightning Paw, Cat's Eye]
[A Digimon brimming with curiosity that loves to pull pranks. Gatomon may be small, but it's still a rare sacred-species Digimon whose appearance belies its true power. It wears its Holy Ring on its tail, proving that it is a sacred-species Digimon, although it will also lose some of its power if it ever loses this ring. Besides the Holy Ring, Gatomon also wears gloves with long, sharp claws copied from the data of SaberLeomon to protect itself. Gatomon's special moves include Lightning Paw, by which it uses its claws to attack, and Cat's Eye, which allows it to manipulate its opponent with a piercing glare. Those who meet its gaze will end up attacking themselves.]
[BlackGatomon]
[Level: Champion]
[Type: Dark Beast]
[Attribute: Virus]
[Special Move: Lightning Paw]
[A Virus Gatomon with striking, pitch-black fur. A quintessential child of evil, BlackGatomon wanders through the uncanny darkness. This is an extremely rare mutation of Gatomon, with very few thought to exist. The creature is also malicious and prideful and loves picking on the weak. A Dark Digimon that basically Digivolves into a Dark Angel Digimon. BlackGatomon uses the same special move as Gatomon, Lightning Paw.]
Two Champions right off the bat, not bad.
Digimon mostly come in six levels: Fresh, In-Training, Rookie, Champion, Ultimate, and Mega.
They can Digivolve to a higher level or De-Digivolve to a lower one. The higher the level, the bigger the jump in strength compared to the level before it, but that's also Digimon-dependent. Take MarineAngemon, for example. It's a Mega, but its fighting skills are terrible. It's mainly a healer. On the flip side, Lucemon is only a Rookie, but he can probably handle most Ultimate-level Digimon.
Gatomon and BlackGatomon are somewhere in the middle. They can probably scrap with other Champions or lower, but they'll have a tough time against Ultimates.
Still, both have the potential to become way stronger as they evolve. Gatomon can turn into Angel-types, and BlackGatomon can become Dark Angel-types. Either way, they'll be reliable partners now and in the future.
"Alright, you two. I'll be relying on you, Gatomon, BlackGatomon," I declare.
"Yes!" Gatomon and BlackGatomon say in unison, their eyes sparkling. I can already tell that they'll be relying on me too, probably for head scratches and maybe the occasional snack.
Wait a sec... Does this make me one of the Chosen? Like in Digimon Adventure? You know, the kids who got whisked away to the Digital World and gained partner Digimon to save both worlds? Except, instead of being transported, I'm reborn and stuck in a Marvel comic. Still, close enough, right?
Suddenly, my Digivice lights up with a notification.
[Newbie Mission: Hunt Your First Rogue Digimon]
[Progress: 0/1]
[Rewards: Supply Box x5, Digi-Camo]
"A mission?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
A map appears on the Digivice screen, a blinking dot showing the location of the Rogue Digimon.
"Oh, this is going to be so much fun!" Gatomon exclaims, bouncing on her paws.
"Finally, something exciting to do," BlackGatomon adds with a smirk. "Let's go teach that Rogue Digimon some manners."
"Alright then," I say, grabbing my wallet and keys. "Let's head out." I open the door to my room and lead my partners out.
We walk down the stairs of the apartment building. As we exit the building, we are greeted by a stunning blonde woman with all the curves, fair skin, and black eyes. Her clothing is... revealing, to say the least.
"Hello, Ethan," she says, a playful smile on her face. "You finally got out of your room."
Who the heck is this?
