The Heart was quiet at this hour. Overhead lights down to half, ventilation humming low, the smell of machine oil, solder and the cold coffee mug still sitting on the counter near the door.
Saffi came out of the prototype bay with her slate pressed against her ribs and her hair flattened on one side from the headset. Her cheeks were flushed. She stopped at the threshold, looked at the SAFETY AT POWER DOWN sign on the wall, then looked at Raizen, still hunched over the work table.
"I logged everything" she said. Her voice was thin from hours of concentration. "Torque map, line creep, the - um - the oscillation thing."
"Mmmyeah… But I still have a complaint" Raizen said without looking up. He had a driver between two fingers and a spool canted open on the table. "It's still too heavy. And not powerful enough."
"That's two complaints." She almost smiled. "We can fix the weight. The power - we'll figure it out."
