"What are we doing here exactly?" I ask the two man and woman in front of me. The problem was not that I didn't want to be there, but rather way we're we even here in the first place, it was just curiousity.
"To hang out." Nova said.
"But why, pick the arcade tho." Theo questioned.
"To find the love of your life." The clear sarcasm in her voice rang out.
"To play games, you dumbasses." She smiled as she called us dumbasses. Nova having had enough of our teasing made her way into the arcade. The neon lights flickered brightly and the sound of machines being used could be heard across the entire arcade.
We played many games together for a while, with Nova winning most of them. The thing about Nova is that she is a game level pro, meaning if she's playing she playing to win. When she won the 7th game and celebrated her win proudly, we know why the arcade.
Theo and I just stared at each other, both of us knowing full well now why she brought us to the arcade.
"What you guys don't like the arcade?" Nova said.
"No, we just don't like to lose." Theo clearly made his statement while drinking his Coke.
"They how about we see who can get the most amount of tickets on their own." She bet knowing full well we won't gonna refuse her suggestion. Our eyes locked on to Nova.
"Bet!."
"Bet!."
After a while, I was aimlessly trailing the arcade. I went over to the basketball machine but saw someone there, struggling to get any balls through the hoop. A light smile forced it's way on to my lips.
No wonder I wanted to come to this machine, little birdy was here. He was focused on losing apparently because he did not notice when I stood next to him.
I leaned in close to his ear then gently spoke into it.
"Need a little help, little birdy."
He jumped back in surprise which resulted in him being in my arms and on my chest, his face turned red.
"Be careful won't ya." I said.
"You scared me, who just sneaks up on someone like that?" He said angerly.
"I didn't sneak up on you. You were just too focused on something that's not me."
When Knox had fallen he landed in my arms and lifted his head back to face mine. I was holding him up, one of my hands came to be on his chest so I could hear and feel his heartbeat. It was loud and beautiful.
I have never felt such a beautiful heartbeat. In that moment all I wanted was stay in that position forever.
"Ahh!" Two girls cheered silently beside us.
Knox quickly realized the position we were in, without a moments notice escaped from my grasp.
The two girls approached whispering among themselves. Their golden brown skin was beautiful and clear. Their feature were almost the same. Onyx eyes and pink plum lips. I thought they were twins.
"Ahh what's your names." Knox asked.
"Ruya."
"Dasha."
"Well I'm Knox and this is Ade."
One finally had the courage and asked "Umm our you to dating?" Ruya's big child eyes lit up. Her and her sister looked around 12 years old.
Little Birdy frantically tried to explain but the little girl wasn't convinced.
"What no, I just fell well he made me fall."
"Fall in what? Love." I laughed at Dasha's words.
Knox glared at me."Stop laughing and tell her we are not dating." I decided to play a joke just for fun. Could you blame.
"We could be." I tilt my head
"Ade!" He called out my name. His expression was helpless.
"Fine." I raised my arms in the air and closed my eyes for second.
"We are not..."
"Thank you." Little Birdy said standing up and leaving.
"Not yet at least." I whispered to the kids.
"I knew it." They jumped around in joy.
I followed little birdy not beside him but behind him, making sure to keep three paces behind him.
"Why you following me?"
"Could be because I got nothing else better to do..."
"Or I just want to be around you." I shrugged.
"Choose your pick." I said.
He groaned under his breath, pondering which one was the correct answer but to be honest there was only one correct answer there.
"You know what nevermind." Little Birdy grey said.
Knox began to walk away, without thinking I grabbed his hand stopping him going any further. He gazed at the hand that was holding his for a second before lifting his face to face me.
"The second option." I confirmed.
He seemed to be dazed, lost in his own thoughts.
"What?... sorry what?" He question returning back to reality as he shook his head.
"The answer to the question, the correct one is number two. I just wanna be around you." He eyed me down, scanning my whole body.
"Why?"
"Cuz I'm...it may be the last time." I whispered. I could tell Knox was confused, I myself didn't actually know why I would tell him that but I did.
"Why would it be the last time...?"
